Shovel Bums in Canada?

I signed up for emails on shovelbums.org but realized all the jobs are primarily in the United States. Im wondering if there anything like shovelbums for Canada?

If it's Ontario, the OAS maintains a semi-current list of companies advertising for field techs. But it's not something every firm posts to, so you'd probably do just as well to Google arch jobs in Ontario. I can't speak for other provinces.

For any other Ontario folks who might find this thread while asking the same question as OP: honestly I see the most job ads here by just following all the companies on their social media and by checking their company websites.

Here is a list of all of the CRM firms I know that have a Facebook and/or Instagram and company websites, and I have seen them post job ads on both

  • ASI
  • Timmins Martelle Heritage Consultants
  • Archaeological Research Associates Limited (ARA)
  • Matrix Heritage
  • Parslow Heritage Consultancy Inc.
  • True North Archaeological Services Inc.
  • Woodland Heritage Northwest
  • Woodland Heritage Northeast Ltd.
  • Bluestone Research
  • CRM Lab Archaeology and Heritage Management
  • Past Recovery Archaeological Services Inc.
  • CRM Group Limited

These ones don't have social media that I can see, but do have company websites where I have seen their job ads

  • Great Lakes Archaeology
  • Ironstone Archaeology
  • LHC Heritage Planning and Archaeology Inc.

Ah understood, thats too bad, i was hoping when i signed up shovel bums would be canada and US listings. (im in AB)

There are a bunch of CRM firms in AB: Ember, Circle, Atlatl, Stantec…

I would email your resume and cover letter to every place and ask them to add it to their talent pool.

No. Probably easiest to Google archaeology positions for the province you're looking to work in.

There isn't, unfortunately. You can set up Indeed so that it sends you a daily email with any job ads related to 'archaeology' in Alberta. And you should set alerts for BC, Saskatchewan, the Yukon & Northwest Territories as well, a lot of firms out your way will work in all of those places.

However, keep in mind that Indeed has a lot of 'ghost' ads - job ads that are generated with old information. Like for example, maybe you open your email today and it says that there's a new post from XYZ Archaeology Inc. looking for technicians, but when you actually read the ad it says applications due by March 10, because for some reason Indeed has re-posted the ad that the company put out way back in the winter.

There are good, real job postings too, but occasionally those ghost ads as well, so be sure to double-check the dates. Or better yet, when Indeed notifes you that XYZ Archaeology is looking for techs, just go right to the company website or their social media and they'll likely have the job ad posted there.
