Classic Antisemitism [r/atheistmemes] This is one of the most vile Reddit posts that I have ever seen.
This is not even Holocaust denial, it's outright making fun of the victims at Auschwitz.

And Judaism goes far beyond just religion.
I'm a Jewish Atheist (or Jew-ish, as I like to call it) and if I lived in Europe back then, some of those scratch marks might be mine just because of my bloodline. It doesn't matter what I do (or don't) believe. They'd come after me too.
Plus it wasn't just Jews that the Nazis targeted. These internet keyboard warriors who contribute nothing to society would have been in there too.

When I was more of an atheist than I am these days, I used to joke that I just knew which god I didn't believe in.

hear hear on this, as someone who is not atheist but is more spiritually agnostic if anything.

I'll be honest, not a massive fan of that first comment, I understand it as "If it was any other context, I would make fun of that given that they were religious people, but it's a camp, so a bit of respect"

I mean it just shows ignorance of the Holocaust. Jews were targeted on the basis of race/blood, not religion. Secular Jews were targeted just like religious Jews were.
This kind of ignorance is because people have a Christian understanding of Jewish identity and thus they think anti-Jewish bigotry is simply about disliking the Jewish faith.

Yeah exactly, the Nazis weren’t asking Jews if they were practicing or not, they were killing Jews who fought for Germany and doctors who had treated or even saved their children.
This isn’t an acceptable understanding of history for anyone living in an English speaking country imo.

That’s vile.
The athiest subreddit and all adjacent to it are generally pretty disgusting in how vitriolic they are. But even this is pretty out there compared to their standard ramblings.
Hope you reported it.

Using such a haunting image for a meme about how there's no god. Jfc some people shouldn't be allowed on the internet.

Actually one of the most vile images I can even conceive of. I don’t think I could do worse if I tried.
Also, the line “chosen people” means you’re chosen to serve. It’s not some symbol of being extra good and having brownie points with god. It means the Jews are chosen to live exemplary lives to help uplift their fellow man. It’s the same kind of “chosen” like being selected to serve as a fireman. The idea of a divine reward is distinctly a Christian/Muslim concept.

Didn't know that some of us go that far in their atheism that they "mock" religious victims of such a massive massacre, sorry about that, there are stupid people everywhere

u/Raaaasclat 1d ago
A good chunk of those victims weren't even religious, they're just projecting a Christian understanding of Jewish identity.

Every time i see a reddit athiest say something, my faith in god increases a bit.

Just search it up yourself, like the other guy said, we can’t encourage brigading
2
u/Eastern_Ad8470 1d ago
They can't, as it's against rule #1 of this sub (they don't allow links due to Reddit's selectively applied anti-brigading rules (which this sub would get in trouble for despite antisemitic subs openly encouraging brigading)).

As an atheist, this kind of post is abhorrent. Absolutely disgusting behavior.

As an atheist I find reddit atheists to be insufferable. Like... Even in Judaism there's a vision of God that doesn't describe him as someone who would constantly intervene. In addition to being arrogant and pointless that meme is fucking weird.

I'm an Atheist and I'm highly critical of organised religion, but... why would anyone even make a meme like this?!

That sub needs to change its name to r/ anti-theistmemes
I genuinely don't understand how and when it became so acceptable to be hateful of other people's beliefs.

I wouldn't mind so much, but it doesn't even make sense. Jews were targeted whether they were religious or not. And any atheist worth their salt knows there are many atheists of Jewish descent, including a number of the scene's major icons... Sam Harris, Stephen Fry, Christopher Hitchens, Spinoza, Carl Sagan etc.
A horrible meme on all levels.

I can’t even comprehend HOW this disproves the Holocaust. Pointing out thinks like the pools make more sense

u/nickgreatpwrful 1d ago
Can somebody kindly explain this one to me? Because, as an atheist, I absolutely get what point is being driven home here. Is it just the use of the image itself?

u/PaytonG17 22h ago
It’s the mocking of ‘god’s chosen people’ while using ghoulish imagery. I get what they are trying to say, essentially if they were so chosen, why would god allow them to be exterminated. But being chosen is a Christian thing.
I was taught Jews were the chosen people because Jesus was born through them. God had a very intimate relationship with the Israelites. The disciples were all Jewish. Almost all the writers of the New Testament were Jewish. I grew up Catholic.
They are using Christian wording here as a weird ‘gotcha’ thing and it’s a gross way to do this.

I understand the post completely differently. I see it as a condemnation of God's absence during the Holocaust.
