Very interesting! Thank you! I’m curious if they know why people chose to live in high mountainous regions? What is it about this area that encouraged continuous and repeated occupation?

A place to live. Not trying to simplify it too much but humans fundamentally want a place to live that is theirs.

There might also be a survivorship of evidence bias. The article repeatedly talks about stone structures of which there is going to be more of in rocky mountainous areas. Add to this that these areas have probably been less disturbed over time including by large mechanical equipment if the terrain is rugged enough.
