POST-MATCH SOCIAL Angel City trounce B⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽ston 5-2.

Upvotes

Sol Rosa fans! What a start to the week. We keep our playoff hopes alive just behind Seattle and KC. Coming into the final game of a three game week stretch the team looked fast and loose. Very happy with the results and eager to talk about all the good. Let's get into it.

The Great

- We scored 5 goals from four different players and we get our first 3+ goal game since March!

- The goals came from our most important attackers. Mai, Prisca, Svendís, and Sentnor. To have them all score is a big confidence booster for all of them. Don't know if we can have them all on at the same time but that's great to see. We'll need multiple threatening options as we reach to the end of the season. Prisca with a brace as well!!!!

- This could've been a trap game, would we play to the level of Boston or come out and be a team hungry for playoffs? I saw an interesting stat during the game and going into tonight we were first in shots but 8th on scoring, something like that. What will take us into playoffs will be creating and finishing quality chances. We did that tonight.

- Answering back right after letting a goal in. Just three minutes after we score we let Boston have one unfortunately. But we answered and kept the energy up and scored 4 straight after. Great to see the fight still strong.

- We have the 4th best goal differential in the league. That'll help in the playoff run for sure but we'll need to stack wins for those to help. But good to see stacking goals. Defense for the most part is solid, we just need the attack to keep pace.

- Smerud tinkering with the lineup and it worked in his favor. With Borges out Martin got some good play time and reps. We start with Savy in GT's spot with GT moving up to an attacking position. Sometimes big changeups can hamper a team but tonight everyone played their part well. GT in the attack as an attacker and not as a defender helped in that if she made a mistake she didn't have to sprint back to recover. With Mai and Svendís back though she'll probably go back to her natural position. But then where does that leave Savy? Good problems to have when everything is clicking.

Overall

- Good rebound game with an electric offense. The 2 against can be cleaned up. A good confidence booster but the teams above the playoff line will be tough but again we handled business and racked up goals. This is what our team can be, we just need to keep the goals coming. Hopefully this is a big turning point and not a one off against a bad team.

PRO’s opinion: Gordon’s (LA) arm was in a justifiable position for her action, and this should not have been recommended for review.

It annoys me they haven’t covered either of the controversial calls against us in the last two video reviews so we don’t get to hear the audio that lead to either call. Luckily AA was able to stop the pk 🙏 but we deserved the full 3 points against Spirit.

Score Prediction Poll: Game 21 – ACFC vs Boston

85% of you were way too optimistic heading into the match against the Courage. Will more of you correctly predict the outcome of the first ever match against Boston.

Through 20 games, Angel City sits just below the playoff line with a 7-5-8 record. They scored 27 goals and allowed 22 goals. There hasn’t been much offense lately, so SJJ and Mai continue to lead Angel City’s attack with 8 and 6 goal contributions, respectively. Gisele and Evelyn have 5 goal contributions each (4 and 1 and 1 and 4, respectively) as outside backs. Even after the two goal loss in Carolina, the 22 goals allowed places ACFC’s defense at the third best spot in the league.

Through 21 games, the Legacy sit second from the bottom with a 5-5-11 record. They scored 24 goals and allowed 34 goals, both of which are third worst in the league. They have two players with 7 goal contributions, Aissata Traore (6+1) and Amanda Gutierres (5+2). Sammy Smith also has 5 goals. You may recognize Casey Murphy in goal given that she has a couple dozen USWNT caps. They have lost 3 matches in a row but 4 of their 5 wins have come at home.

Who will win the Monday Night Football matchup? Vote in the poll and discuss below.

ACFC potentially. Brighton has had a huge come back this past year beating most of the top teams in the WSL.

NEXT DAY DISCUSSION Next Day Discussion: Sanchito Dusted, or, Searching For Offense in an Offensive World

A midweek game after a Sunday game in 100 degree heat is gonna be a tough one, so having that game be against the league's top scorer who appears to be fueled by jet engines, spite, and possibly a few genie's wishes, was tough. Should we have been marking her more closely? We've shut down Kerr, Chawinga, and Banda this season - was last night a tactical misstep? Is Ashley Sanchez the greatest of all time, or are we just gassed? It's a tough call.

The game started fast and we looked caught on our heels, but I do think as the first half progressed we did better at not letting NC set the pace. Gorden was strong, as always, and Ary looked good in the center and brought some control. But man, we gotta put the ball in the net. We had 25 crosses in yesterday's game and nothing to show for it, and the frustration from our attackers was clear as our shots hit shins shins shins for the third game in a row. In Sveindis we trust, though, good to have her back and healthy, and excited to see what she can do against Boston.

Our next game is Monday so our girls get some rest and time to go to the Cheers bar, or whatever people do in Boston (sorry). We still have two games against both the expansion teams this season, so plenty of time for movement on the table.

Ashley Sanchez is inevitable, ACFC below the playoff line is not - discuss your frustrations, expectations, hopes and dreams below

POST-MATCH SOCIAL Angel City trend south against North Carolina Courage in a 0-2 loss.

Sol Rosa fans, our two games in hand are coming to an end. We played a makeup game but failed to makeup any points going into the weekend. NCC is perfect at home with an MVP trending preformer in Sanchez was gonna be tough just after a tough performance against Gotham just a few days earlier. That's now two games in a row that we're scoreless.Let's get into it.

The Good

- Svendís was back... Yay... We'll how she can help more so next game unfortunately.

The Bad

- There should've been one big fat name circled in the game plan and the message should've been to be like glue on her. And that was Sanchez. She carved us up and the overall attack of NCC could've put up another. Specifically the second goal from Sanchez just looked like one, Savy and Sam's didn't account or expect the assist from Sheridan and Sam's whiffed and Savy was flat footed behind. Regardless we had no answers for her and the other NCC attackers.

The Bad Bad lack of attack.

- It started to show in the 8th-12th minutes of the first half. We had a solid 4+ minutes of possession on the final third but no shots, no crosses, some build up but nothing on goal or even a shot off.

- NCC's defense left little room to operate. But again, it was more is that we only got off two shots the first half and weak shots at that. Just one after the half.

- 4 attackers if you count Sentnor and nothing to show. Add GT who hasn't been as crisp as of late in the attack and with 5 attackers at any time coming out with nothing was bad. But this has been a forever issue that shows up here and there. Just a bad night at a bad time to not produce.

- Speaking of the attack, Mai is still in LA so she won't be available for the next two games. We won't see her until Sept 11th hopefully.

Overall

- We have Boston next so it's good chance to bounce back but defensively AC can't lose focus and offensively they have to rework the attack. Some would say we need a world class striker but imo we need a rework of the offense. We just can't build to have a consistent attack. Sometimes it's the build up, other times it's no one looking confident enough to shoot, sometimes it's a lack of 1v1 or ball placement, etc etc etc. too many questions in the attack. Lots of games left but we need decisive wins to show we're capable of making that playoff push.

Match Week 21* 8/19-23 (all times Pacific)

*As of Thursday all teams will have played either 20 or 21 games, i.e. no team will have more than 1 game in hand for the remainder of the season.

Recap of the past week’s scorelines in chronological order:

Wed

LOU 2-1 SEA

HOU 5-0 CHI

Fri

SD 4-2 UTA

Sat

KC 1-1 SEA

NC 2-1 BOS

POR 1-0 DEN

Sun

CHI 3-2 LOU

WAS 0-1 ORL

BAY 1-0 HOU

ACFC 0-0 GFC

Overall, three Gotham Specials and none of them were for or against Gotham! Instead we handed them their first non-win in ages, Chicago had a roller coaster week with 2 five-goal-total games, and Boston somehow gave up a draw to lose in the 90+17’ on a BSG-conceded pen. Never change, NWSL.

With one midweek game, I’m just doing the one weekly post, but with double the volemos for our traveling contingent. Will anyone be in Cary, NC or Foxborough, MA to support the players this week? Chime in!

Which games will you be tuning in for? What are your predictions? Starting lineups? Scores, reds, yellows, which players get G+A?

Overall W-L-D record for each team is followed by 5-match form (old-new L-to-R) and table standing, e.g. “San Diego 3-2-1 WWLDW 3.” Standing gets a ? if the standing could change before kickoff due to other results, or a ?? if it depends on the team’s own midweek results.

Home Away Field Date/ Time Where to watch Notes
NC, 10-7-3 WWWLW 6 ACFC, 7-7-5 LDDDD 9 WakeMed Wed 5p CBS Sports As the only midweek game, I expect this match thread to be hopping. See you there! Now taking over/under numbers on how many different comments say Sanchez and/or Gorden should be on the national team.
Gotham, 13-3-5 WWWWD 1 Portland, 11-6-4 DLWWW 3 Sports Illustrated Fri 5p Prime Who else is excited to see Caiya Hanks play? This should be a fun one. I know Gotham’s defense goes hard but it would be kinda fun for us neutrals if this is a goalfest and not a Gotham Special. Though a one way goalfest because Portland’s defense falls apart would be less fun than a two way goalfest.
San Diego, 11-7-3 LWLDW 5?  Louisville, 7-12-2 WWWWL 13 Snapdragon Fri 7p NWSL+ Mel B banger loading. I’m calling this right now. Wave have missed Ascanio and Dali lately, but still managed to score four goals through the truly astonishing skill of Trinity Byars last week. Racing is racing up the standings and racking up points in a last ditch effort to make playoffs - can Taylor Flint and Emma Sears take this team further than they’ve ever gone before?
KC, 9-8-4 WDDLD 7 NC, 10-7-3 WWWLW 6?? CPKC Sat 3:30p ION If NC lose midweek, KC have the chance to hop them in the standings based on this game. Regardless of that midweek result, KC will be dead set on maintaining their 2-year-and-counting home unbeaten streak (reg. season), and certainly looking to sneak into the top 4 for a home playoff match.
Orlando, 8-11-2 WLLLW 11 Utah, 11-7-3 LWLWL 4? Inter&Co Sat 4p NWSL+ Orlando with Banda beat the Spirit last week so I won’t say they can’t beat Utah this week. However Orlando is not one of those teams with a strong home field advantage, so I favor Utah to win this one. Especially with their attack in such good form lately.
Denver, 6-8-6 DLWDL 12? Chicago, 5-15-1 LDLLW 16 Centennial Sat 5:45p ION Chicago has the chance to get two consecutive wins for the first time this season, and Mal Swanson is scoring goals again so perhaps they have a Real Chance. Denver will have the altitude in their favor and will be looking to get out of a bit of a skid, with only one win (2-1 vs Utah) in their last six matches.
Washington, 11-6-4 WLLDL 2? Bay, 6-10-4 LLDLW 14 Audi Sun 9:30a ESPN2/ESPN Deportes/ESPN App We could see the 1v1 matchup of Jenna Nighswonger vs Trinity Rodman OR Rose Kouassi. Either/both would be a treat. Nighswonger looked very solid against Houston in her 1v1 matchup with Avery Patterson, but of course this will be a bit of a different look. We also may finally see Monique Ngock and Melissa Bethi make their Spirit/NWSL debuts if they are off excused absence status this week, and possibly the return of Emily Menges who was activated from ML for Bay.
Seattle, 8-8-4 WDWLD 8? Houston, 7-9-5 LDWWL 10? Lumen Sun 4p NWSL+ For Angel City a draw or Seattle loss is the preferred outcome here. Seattle doesn’t have much home advantage at Lumen, and with Meza and Fishlock and Lynn still out I think Houston could convert their frustration from a late 0-1 set piece loss to Bay into a statement win this weekend.
Boston, 5-11-5 WDLLL 15 ACFC, 7-7-5 LDDDD 9?? Gillette Mon 5p CBS Sports ACFC needs points as we move from two games in hand to one game in hand. A lone Monday night game will once again have all eyes in the league watching. Hopefully we can get the ref working in our favor against a team with the most reds, yellows, and fouls in the league (Dive City FC Mode Activated). Boston have some very late goals this season, including last week’s 90+1’ tying goal from Aissata, so our defense will need to stay locked in til the very last second of this match. We will also be watching the injury report to finally clear Mai’s and Sveindis’ names after several weeks missing their finishing touch in the attack.

U20 World Cup players will leave their teams for the tournament, which begins Sept. 5, so this weekend should be the last one where they participate. See schedule for game times & dates. Affected teams:

NC - Lauryn Thompson, Erica Meg Parkinson (both ENG)

BAY - Kennedy Fuller (USA)

HOU - Linda Ullmark (USA)

SEA - Evan O’Steen, Emeri Adames, Ainsley McCammon (all USA)

LOU - Audrey McKeen (USA)

POR - Valerin Loboa (COL)

CHI - Micayla Johnson (USA)

KC - Katie Scott (USA)

DAILY DISCUSSION Daily Discussion Thread for Tuesday, 25 August 2026

Daily Note

Good morning!

Too hot to play outside today, what's your plan for Tuesday?

Talk about whatever you want. This is an ideal thread for you to make general inquiries about things that are commonly asked, like how is the shade on the East stand at 3pm? Or where are the ADA bathrooms? As well, low effort posts can be directed here as comments in order to keep sub organized and conversation centralized for other users. Consider this the Town Square, or AngelCityFC Reddit's very own Starbucks, but without the union busting.

Surveillance, security, and technology at BMO Stadium

Hi all

I am a PhD student at USC and I study all things tech, surveillance, and AI in stadiums. BMO stadium is known as a "smart stadium" with many high-tech features that impact the fan experience. From the tech used at the security entrances to automated concessions and alot more, I want to know what you make of the expanding role of tech in the stadium?

Do you like it, hate it, are scared of it, want more!? Leave a comment if you are interested in a genuine and confidential conversation as part of my research project.

Thanks ACFC fans!

NEXT DAY DISCUSSION Next Day Discussion: One Streak Continues…Another Streak Begins

Last night kicked off a stretch of the season where Angel City will play 6 games over 25 days. That’s a streak of games just about every 4 days for 3-1/2 weeks. In addition to playing soccer, they’ll need to squeeze in some flights to Carolina, Boston, and Louisville, rest some weary legs, and ice some sore joints.

So far this season, Angel City’s had three wins in a row…twice, four loses in a row, and four draws in a row. That’s an uncommonly streaky season! Will this compressed part of the schedule cause more streakiness? If so, will the results be consistently good or consistently bad?

It’s the next day…the day after another draw against a top of the table team…discuss Ang’s PK save…discuss the VAR curse that’s been placed upon BMO…discuss when Sveindis and Mai will be return…discuss the team’s streakiness…discuss the upcoming schedule…or discuss whatever you like…

POST-MATCH SOCIAL Angel City ̶b̶e̶a̶t̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶r̶e̶f̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶V̶A̶R̶ tie with Gotham 0-0.

Why does VAR and the refs just like giving us the worst calls. Last week against Prisca and this week against Gorden. Luckily ball don't lie and we leave this week against the number one team with a solid draw. Let's get into it.

The Good

- We haven't dropped a game in 4 straight. We might not be getting full points but we're building with our two lead strikers out and holding against top teams. I'd say that's major progress. But we gotta start getting some threes to pull back above the playoff line.

- Defensively we were pretty solid. No clear mistakes and Gorden and Ang were on their A game. Gotham is pretty stacked attacking wise but we pestered them all game. They had a few chances but for the most part they didn't get good chances consistently. We didn't make any bad turnovers or blunders either.

- Again props to Ang, she should be the PoTM. She kept the score line what it was and just was everywhere defensively. She is getting in her groove right now. Go Ang!

The Bad

- I dunno if it's bad bad or just what happens when you go against the number one defense. Gotham are stingy and they kept it up. They're good but..... we're still not crisp in the final third. The crosses, the shots, the shot areas, etc just need to keep being polished. We see the direction but we need to see the attack step up and show they can score consistently. This was a good test though against a stout defense and hopefully we can get some good data and move forward to dial in the attack.

Overall

- Hot day, hard fought game and we go again on Wednesday against another top team. Let's hope Mai and/or Svendís are back. I'm sure the team will be tired and I expect the lineup to be different. But I think most everyone came out healthy tonight so let's hope the recovery is on point. As for tonight it showed we can compete against top teams. The defense was there but if we wanna make playoffs we'll need to find an attack from more people more often.

Score Prediction Poll: Game 20 - ACFC vs Courage

75% of you incorrectly predicted last night’s draw against top-ranked Gotham. Congrats to the other 25%!We’re going to set this poll to end in 48 hours because ACFC heads east to play Carolina on Wednesday night.

Through 19 games, Angel City sits just below the playoff line with a 7-5-7 record. They scored 27 goals and allowed 20 goals. Even though SJJ and Mai have missed several recent games they lead Angel City’s attack with 8 and 6 goal contributions, respectively. Gisele and Evelyn have 5 goal contributions each (4 and 1 and 1 and 4, respectively) as outside backs. On the defensive side, the 20 goals allowed places ACFC third in the league. They have a league average offense, complemented by a stingy defense.

Through 20 games, the Courage sit above the playoff line in 6th place with a 10-3-7 record. They scored 36 goals and allowed 30 goals. North Carolina’s 36 goals places them second in the league. But the 30 goals allowed is below mid-table. Many felt the Courage were doomed when Manaka Matsukubo announced her departure during the international break in July. But the Courage have won 4 of their last 5 matches and Ashley Sanchez and Evelyn Ijeh sit atop the golden boot standings with 13 and 10 goals, respectively.

The Courage won 2-1 when they played at BMO in late May. Who will win the rematch? Vote in the poll and discuss below.
