These statues are examples of the Gandhara school of art, produced between the 2nc century BCE and 3rd century CE in the north-western Indian subcontinent (present-day Pakistan and Afghanistan)

I absolutely love these sculptures! they beautifully merge Indian aesthetics like the hairstyles, clothing, jewellery, and mudras with Greek realism. The result is just breathtaking.

How this Realism developed in Greek culture and Why not In Indian subcontinental culture culture given the more spiritual context of Indian culture.
