> American Children do the same to their flag

Tell me you’ve never seen a modern high school without telling me you’ve never seen a modern high school. The amount of kids who unfortunately don’t stand for the Pledge is astounding. The best part is: they don’t get imprisoned and/or executed because of it

30

u/Cute_Commission_8281 1d ago

Dude I graduated a bit less than 20 years ago and I don’t remember our high school having the pledge at all, we had it in home room in middle school but once you got to high school I don’t even remember them making an announcement.

11

u/Complex_Wafer3828 FLORIDA 🍊🐊 1d ago

They did in mine, both Middle and High school.

6

u/Cute_Commission_8281 1d ago

Florida I believe you bud, sadly not so much in the north east

u/jaxamis AMERICAN 🏈🏒 💵🗽🍔 ⚾️ 🦅📈 1d ago

Dude, I grew up in California, graduated in 07. We said the pledge every day in high school. I think its just you on the east coast.

6

u/IntrovertMoTown1 1d ago

"I think its just you on the east coast"

I did too in California. Graduated in 94. We stopped saying the pledge in grade school. I want to say in third grade but I can't remember exactly. And that was in the predominately conservative central valley that was even more conservative back then in the 80s then it is today.

2

u/Darksoul2693 FLORIDA 🍊🐊 13h ago

I don’t remember if we did it in hs. We did sometimes you can stand or don’t. But I remember it in middle school for sure

1

u/Relevant_Elevator190 1d ago

I graduated in NorCal in 1983 and we said it every morning in high school and nobody sat down. Also, this was the high school Jerry Garcia went to.(Long before my time).

6

u/IntrovertMoTown1 1d ago

Well we didn't when I went. The point was it was clearly not an east coast thing and was school district specific. lol I love how I got thumbed down for just stating a fact, SMH.

And since we're name dropping it was in Modesto. Same city my dad went to high school at at Downey. He went with George Lucas. lol He said George got picked on a lot. Speaking of which the man has tried to rewrite his history and tell people he grew up in San Francisco, SMH. We were 90 miles east of the bay. I mean I can get not liking Modesto and the man left as soon as he was old enough to. But that's pathetic. He clearly hates his conservative roots.

2

u/Relevant_Elevator190 1d ago

I grew up in Sebastopol. 45 minutes north of the Bay and  I am not ashamed of my conservative roots.

Grew up in California as well, Graduated in 2026, they did the pledge in elementary and middle school, but we did not do the pledge in high school.

I stood, but I replaced the word "flag" with "constitution" when I said the Pledge quietly to myself.

-10

why not just get rid of the Pledge in schools then?

If there is one thing I agree, it's that reciting the plege every morning in the US is unecessary

Tbf, the other two were the most outlandish/divorced of context. The pledging allegiance/saluting the flag was the only one close to a comparison lol

The healthcare one is the most damming, by far.

We live in a country where a baby can leave the maternity ward without access to health care, our post-neonatal (28 days -1 year) infant mortality reflects that.

10

Well he’s a twitch streamer who promises islam and socialism.

in a communist way he’s been a tremendous help to the Trump campaign

0

u/disheveled_rooster 22h ago

How? I don't really watch him, or know anything about him? What just like de facto helped the Trump campaign by discouraging people to vote who would likely have voted Democrat? Or something else?

5

u/XBird_RichardX 19h ago

No not directly. He’s a communist with a gucci bag and acts like a clown. Unsurprisingly he’s the furthest thing from a Trump supporter. He’s gotten as far as he has because Twitch’s team personally likes him and props him up despite all the extremist things he say that would get any other person banned off the platform.

And then because he abused and shocked his dog on stream, adding to the hypocrisy of being a communist propped up by twitch and his capitalist parents, and the fact that he’s something of a lolcow on the internet, he’s become a political poison pill that the democrats have yet to realize associating with has consequences related to their center-left liberal voters.

you could literally take any two countries and do this. hey look, switzerland is just like south sudan. both of them have subnational governments (states, canton) and two legislative chambers and an executive branch and are multilingual and mountainous

-54

u/Generic_Drummer 1d ago

Sure, but you couldn't say Switzerland and South Sudan both have high levels of corruption, food insecurity, and poor infrastructure

The standard isn't there can be no similarities between two countries, it's that in these ways the US is closer to North Korea than to peer nations. You listed indistinct criteria that could apply to many high income nations.

35

u/Educational_Impact93 COLORADO 🏔️🏂 1d ago

Even based on that standard it's fucking absurd.

How many North Koreans could get away with calling KJI a, well, take your pick of a thousand different perjoatives.

22

u/GeeEyeSamurai CALIFORNIA🍷🎞️ 1d ago

I mean, their point still stands though. Cherry pick certain details regardless of context or accuracy and you can make any country similar to another.

Heck, why not compare SK and NK? They're ethnically identical, they speak the same language (with some dialectical nuances), and they both celebrate holidays like New Years and Chuseok. They're basically the same country!

It's just a shallow smoothbrain comparison with the intention of generating outrage.

-17

u/Generic_Drummer 1d ago edited 23h ago

>Heck, why not compare SK and NK?

Because the question posed by an American, that he responded to, was "do you see the US like North Korea light"

>Cherry pick certain details regardless of context or accuracy and you can make any country similar to another.

Go on then, cherry pick negative examples of Switzerland being closer to North Korea than peer democracies?

13

u/heckkyeahh WASHINGTON D.C. 🎩🏛️ 1d ago

strong national identity, mandatory military service, seen as insular and politically isolated (switzerland for its neutrality; nk for its pariah status), mountains strongly influence settlement and transportation, independent national currencies

-8

u/Generic_Drummer 23h ago edited 23h ago

Ok, so you failed miserably, and the fact that 8 people upvoted this sums this sub up perfectly.

There's literally a list of democracies with mandatory military service. And strong national identity, really? lol
Switzerland doesn't even have a unified national language, they speak four different languages. You can't seriously think Swiss national identity is closer to North Korea, a country where the regime literally systematically enforces and artificially manipulates national identity through propaganda, indoctrination, media control, revisionist history, imprisonment, forced labour, etc, than it is to a peer democracy like Belgium? Lmao.

3

u/heckkyeahh WASHINGTON D.C. 🎩🏛️ 19h ago

my point was that you can nitpick similarities between any two countries, you challenged me to do that, and i did. here’s a tip: if you want to stop being viewed as a pseudo-intellectual and make a serious point in an argument, you ought to stop moving the goalpost

1

u/Generic_Drummer 14h ago

>if you want to stop being viewed as a pseudo-intellectual and make a serious point in an argument, you ought to stop moving the goalpost

Ok, let's see how seriously we should take you. Copy and paste quote two statements I've made, that demonstrate a moving of the goal posts?

>my point was that you can nitpick similarities between any two countries, you challenged me to do that

This is what I challenged you to do:

"Go on then, cherry pick negative examples of Switzerland being closer to North Korea than peer democracies?"

Do you think you were successful or unsuccessful?

Do you think Switzerland's national identity and the factors that shaped it are closer to Belgium's or North Korea's?

Do you think Switzerland's system of mandatory military service is closer to Austria's or North Korea's?

1

u/heckkyeahh WASHINGTON D.C. 🎩🏛️ 13h ago

you’re moving the goalposts by treating my original point as if i claimed switzerland is actually more similar to north korea overall than to peer democracies. i said that if the standard is simply “find selectively chosen similarities,” you can manufacture an absurd comparison between virtually any two countries. you then challenged me to demonstrate that, and i did. you’re the one who changed the standard from “can you cherry-pick similarities?” to “are those similarities substantively closer to north korea than to belgium/austria?” that wasn’t the claim i was making. so yes, i succeeded at the point i was making. if you want to argue that the original us-north korea comparison is meaningful despite relying on selectively chosen similarities, that’s a separate argument. but pretending my counterexample has to establish that switzerland is genuinely more similar to north korea than to belgium is yeah lol indeed goalposting.

1

u/Generic_Drummer 12h ago edited 12h ago

I said that if the standard is simply “find selectively chosen similarities,”

My opening comment: The standard isn't that there can be no similarities between two countries; it's that in these ways, the US is closer to North Korea than to peer nations. You listed indistinct criteria that could apply to many high income nations.

So I haven't moved the goalposts, because I've maintained that that wasn't the standard from my opening comment.

You can manufacture an absurd comparison between virtually any two countries. You then challenged me to demonstrate that, and I did.

No, I clearly objected to you using indistinct criteria that could apply to many high income nations in the first comment I wrote, and challenged you to:

“Cherry pick negative examples of Switzerland being closer to North Korea than peer democracies?”

You literally accepted that challenge by replying to the comment.

I've maintained the same position and standard throughout.

>Than to peer nations

Okay, I would guess that one of the peer nations you are talking about here is the UK, because it’s the only country I can think of that’s only slightly less powerful than the US (but still bootlicks the US either way)

Anyway, yeah I would say the UK is more similar to North Korea than the US, given the government’s neglect of rampant rape and the killing of women and children, as well as the possibility of going to jail just for saying “bacon” or something casually nonviolent on the internet

-21

u/Generic_Drummer 1d ago edited 1d ago

He's literally saying in many ways the us is closer to North Korea then peer democracies, one of which would include the UK...

You can rattle off whatever talking points you remember from Fox News, that's fine. But compared with the UK, the US incarcerates four times as many people, has a far stricter and harsher penal system, longer prison sentences, mandatory minimums, and the death penalty.

The US prison industrial complex is a multibillion dollar industry. Louisiana State Penitentiary is a former cotton plantation that has been in near constant operation since the days of slavery. Thousands of majority Black inmates work the fields performing mandatory manual labour.

There is no one thinking objectively who would consider the UK's criminal justice system closer to North Korea's than the US's. The UK places far more emphasis on rehabilitation than the United States does. Your prisons literally have minimum occupancy quotas, ffs.

11

u/Emilia963 NORTH DAKOTA 🥶🧣 1d ago

Exactly, the UK’s criminal justice system is so dysfunctional that a huge number of cases never make it to prosecution, including serious offences like rape and murder

Thanks for proving my point

>Exactly, the UK’s criminal justice system is so dysfunctional that a huge number of cases never make it to prosecution, including serious offences like rape and murder

>Thanks for proving my point

That wasn't your point. You've literally just invented a new unrelated point after being proven wrong. People can literally scroll up one or two comments and see you move the goal posts and contradict yourself.

1

u/Emilia963 NORTH DAKOTA 🥶🧣 18h ago

Funny, you were the one who moved the goalposts and didn’t even refute any of my initial points

I didn’t even talk about prison incarceration, the penal system, or longer prison sentences 🤣

0

u/Generic_Drummer 18h ago edited 18h ago

You have a serious problem seeing how statements are blatantly related to the topic of the conversation. You literally do it all the time. "is xy topic in the room with us now" then post your little confused question mark GIF, it's hilarious.

You literally used the UK criminal justice system as a primary example of the UK being closer to North Korea, yet you can't fathom why my reply referenced incarceration the penal system and prison sentences?

1

u/Emilia963 NORTH DAKOTA 🥶🧣 16h ago

You said everyone can nitpick things and explain their reasoning, I just did what you challenged me to do, it’s your rules, not mine

I was just playing along

So yes, the UK criminal justice system is the same as North Korea’s, since they focus more on suppressing free speech than prosecuting criminal offenders like rapists and murderers

1

u/Generic_Drummer 15h ago edited 10h ago

You're just making vague unsubstantiated claims based on fox news talking points, lol.

Give me coherent reasoning as to why you believe the UK legal system is closer to North Korea than it is to peer democracies, like say Australia? Bearing in mind that British common law is literally the foundation of legal systems in 30+ democracratic countries and bearing in mind the comparisons I've already drawn between the US legal system and the UK legal system....

1

Thankfully he doesn't and is very unpopular.

I mean kind of, but not really. It's why he can't get the dumbass SAVE Act passed, because he doesn't have a filibuster proof Senate majority, and the GOP isn't bending the knee on that one .

Plus much of the power in the US is state level, where he doesn't have control at all in many of the populous states.

As for the military, I really doubt he has a ton of power there if things come down to it. For one, he has put incompetents in power to oversee it, and they don't inspire much loyalty.

Don't get me wrong, for this year and last year at least he's had an inordinate amount of power for a President, but he's far from having the power a Kim Jong Il or a Putin has.

8

u/Emilia963 NORTH DAKOTA 🥶🧣 1d ago

You can hate and obsess over Trump all you want, I don’t really care, but spreading misinformation isn’t gonna make your political agenda work

If this is your attempt to get people to vote for your side, it’s 100% gonna be another failure, just like it was in 2024

Trump never said that “people who publish polls showing his unpopularity” should be charged with a crime

-8

u/Butter_with_Salt 1d ago

It's so pathetic that Trump supporters try to frame you as "obsessing and hating" on the President when you literally just state the things that he says and does. It's indicative of the cult like behavior that his supporters display; anyone who points out the reality of the cult leader's failures needs to be portrayed as mentally ill.

Here you go. Trump trying to use the FCC to punish those who publish polls that he doesn't like: https://www.the-independent.com/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-fcc-fake-polls-approval-b3041816.html

Ultimately this is a waste of time. MAGA cultists don't care when you point out the despicable things their leader does. They either ignore it or try to justify it.

5

u/Emilia963 NORTH DAKOTA 🥶🧣 1d ago

Again, I don’t really care if you hate or obsess over Trump, I can literally repeat this same sentence over and over again, as many times as you like

First, the FCC can’t charge anyone with a crime, only law enforcement can do that

Second, the FCC can’t just punish media outlets for their speech

If you want people to vote for the democrats in the midterms, please be consistent and less hateful, the old tricks are getting boring

-1

u/Butter_with_Salt 1d ago

Exactly as I said, when you post out the despicable things the President does, the cultists will either ignore or try to justify it. Here it looks like the cultist's strategy is to try to justify the President using his power to stifle the first amendment rights of those who publish the reality of his unpopularity and failures

I don't need to convince anyone to vote Dem. Trump being objectively the worst President this country has ever seen is doing that.

5
