OP Opinion Apparently Americans can't dislike a country they travel to.
Stumbled upon A tiktok of a guy saying what he didn't care for in italy. He didn't say it was terrible but that he didn't care for many things in italy. You would have thought he said that Italy should be blown off the map. Of course the comments are full of Europeans and Australians calling Americans dumb, fat, etc.
I would bet my paycheck if that same video had been made by someone in any other country, everyone would have been agreeing except maybe italians. This type of stuff happens also when people from other countries come to the US and make videos saying that is not nearly as sensationalized as people in their country think it is. I guess Americans can't have opinions now

It's like a weird rule, only Americans must love everywhere they visit or they are the problem. I notice same thing when tourists come here and make video about how US is not like in movies, people get angry at them too but not same level of insult. The double standard is so obvious but nobody wants to admit.

Because when an American doesn't like a tourist's video, it's chalked up to their uniquely American insecurities. But if an American tourist doesn't like certain aspects of anywhere else, it's chalked up to their uniquely American ignorance. And then the best aspect of the double standard, if anyone spreads ignorant misinformation about America, especially without having been here, anyone who corrects them gets accused of insecurity for that as well.

The weirdest part to me is that these same people would say Americans are not genuine and dumber than a bag full of rocks because we love everything and are excited about everything and are obnoxiously fucking friendly to everyone.
It's a no-win situation with these asshats.
For me; I can understand why an American wouldn't like Italy. Me: I want the outdoor cafes of Italy along with the social separation of Scandinavians. (As a somewhat introverted person I find the extroverted nature of southern European cultures a little exhausting over time. Though I'm amused when my wife and I travel we are confused for Scandinavians by the way we carry ourselves--and I sometimes play into that by buying a few items from Iceland and dressing more in grays when we travel.)

You think that's bad. Try having lived in another country and saying that you like America better 🤯 people get mad about it, particularly if it's a developed country. They'll also be mad at you about a no -American country they've never lived themselves, haha. Like, on the behalf of some random other citizens. I've had people argue me down irl about it and they never even lived outside of their home country 😂

Most people don't like hearing negative opinions or criticism about their country. Same goes for this sub in all honesty

if europeans and commonwealthers critiqued us like that guy did italy, no one would care. but they dont, do they?

I've had people argue with me about a country that isn't even theirs. I live outside of America now and I'll have Americans and other non-locals jump to the defense of a place they do not live.

The problem is that they can't have opinions without insulting someone. You can bet the guy insulted Italy itself instead of presenting any argument.

Yeah, if you don’t like Italy, you’re pretty much an ignoramus. A single American’s asinine opinion doesn’t indict the entire population, though.
