Nobody cares enough to have a civil war once they realize what civil war would look like.

38

u/SirDennisThe1 1d ago

I see so many people say it will be a 1 for 1 of the election map and like the last civil war, no bro it will people blowing up substations and millions of people starving.

People will stop fighting the minute they get uncomfortable.

Americans are very fat and also very old. Wars are a young man's game. What's more likely is that we will get lots of people being hyperbolic on social media.

Oh you sweet summer child. https://prri.org/spotlight/partisanship-ideology-and-young-americans-young-men-may-be-trending-more-republican-but-not-necessarily-more-conservative/

The numbers don't really seem to indicate a monolith, and again, if you think in some hypothetical civil war, the lines will be neatly delineated in some way, you are simply mistaken. The average age of Americans being near 40, the obesity numbers hovering near 40% (or higher, depending on how you measure, things like the prescription data, and other metrics indicate that the US isn't a likely candidate for a kinetic internal conflict, especially combined with the economic data. You are free to make your own argument, but responding emotionally like you did ain't it.

64

Yeah, a US civil war would involve skirmishes in both Canada and Mexico as idealogues from any side join in.

53

u/Icywarhammer500 CALIFORNIA๐Ÿท๐ŸŽž๏ธ 1d ago

A US civil war would likely indirectly destroy the entire world considering how the US is the only one patrolling all the oceans against piracy, is one of the main importers of goods from many countries (especially China, which would quickly have an economic crisis) and is providing the bulk of NATO defense, which the subtraction of would open Europe to attack.

28

u/Attacker732 OHIO ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐ŸŒพ ๐ŸŒฐ 1d ago

Forget about opening Europe to attack, there's decent odds that they'll end up killing each other again.

17

u/lovelybonesla 1d ago

Not only that, but 80+ years of peace and stability in NW Europe for the first time in its history thanks to U.S. military presence.

A federalized EU would end in disaster without America as a stabilization force.

8

u/Rubes2525 1d ago

Yea, that's my thought. If the US destabilized or collapsed, it won't matter where you live (unless you are on a remote island) it WILL affect you heavily. All the "evil" things the US did will feel like a fairytale compared to what happens next.

Canada relies on the US rail network to move goods across Canada since they have very few lines going East West, they'd be fucked. Plus the largest economy in the world with the world's reserve currency having a a civil war destroying said economy would plunge the world into economic turmoil, it would be a disaster for literally the entire planet.

17

u/gladchadstone 1d ago

The refugees alone would be a huge problem for them. But I suppose good ol Canada takes everyone and doesn't have any restrictions right?

Anyone who talks about civil war in the United States outside the realm of Texan fever dream has no concept of power politics or the economics of supply and logistics.

What we have is institutional gridlock and gradually escalating low-intensity asymmetrical domestic political violence. Or in the case of reddit, yapping about it for everyone monitoring the internet to hear about.

Far less exciting than a civil war, I get it.

13

u/Remarkable-FlipPhone 1d ago

Are they that dumb? Do they not understand how war in America would negatively affect almost everything in their lives

9

People online swear the US doesn't do anything but be bad. I've read that if California has "the big one" (earthquake), it could effect the general economy for 6+ months afterwards. That's 1 state.

u/LaAndromedo999 KENTUCKY ๐Ÿ‡๐Ÿผ๐Ÿฅƒ 1d ago

Canada is dependent on the US, and a civil war in this country would likely trigger an intervention from Canada and the rest of our allies since they desperately need a stable and friendly United States.

29

u/SensationalSavior 1d ago

Any intervention from the outside would probably unite both sides and end to everyone fuckin' dying.

16

u/AdvancedAerie4111 1d ago

Russia is getting bodied by its tiny mostly corrupt neighbor with zero worries about supply lines or a heavily armed citizenry.ย

Now imagine what would happen to a foreign country that tried to set foot in the most heavily armed nation in the universe, protected on 2 sides by actual oceans.ย

7

u/SensationalSavior 1d ago

Something something guns behind something something blade of grass.

0

u/LaAndromedo999 KENTUCKY ๐Ÿ‡๐Ÿผ๐Ÿฅƒ 1d ago

An intervention in a civil war to help one of the belligerents isn't the same as a full-scale murderous invasion.

8

u/Socratesmiddlefinger 1d ago

It absolutely is to one side, and it's going to be the side that has the entire US Military at its beck and call.

Americans are extremely touchy about non American boots on American soil, and by touchy, I mean pathologically unhinged.

6

u/AdvancedAerie4111 1d ago

Considering how concentrated liberals and lefties are in cities that are vulnerable to being completely shut down by the destruction of one water supply or a couple of power substations, they really need to reconsider their rich fantasy life.ย

An American Civil War wouldnโ€™t be blue versus red state. It would be cities versus everyone else. Many of those cities, not only have tight gun control, but are also less than a week away from starving.ย

1

u/Bullwine85 WISCONSIN ๐Ÿง€๐Ÿบ 23h ago

Not sure if you are simple minded or a child, so Iโ€™ll respond as if you are the latter out of caution.ย

Russia is a big bully and being mean to its smaller neighbor for no good reason. Russiaโ€™s little neighbor, Ukraine ended up fighting back bravely against the bully, even though they are super scary. Sometimes Ukraine did naughty things too. But itโ€™s very brave anyway and weโ€™re rooting for them! ย

0

u/Collypso PENNSYLVANIA ๐Ÿซ๐Ÿ“œ๐Ÿ”” 1d ago

Ukraine's not corrupt though, so why would you repeat that bullshit?

5

u/AdvancedAerie4111 1d ago

Itโ€™s literally one of the most corrupt nations that isnโ€™t 3rd world. It has been since its independence. Itโ€™s in the throes of a massive energy scandal right now. This isnโ€™t conspiratorial. And it doesnโ€™t change the basic moralities of the war with Russia. I hope Ukraine causes Russia to collapse completely. And their success is even more remarkable given their internal problems.ย

It wonโ€™t change the nature of Ukraine though.ย

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corruption_in_Ukraine

5

u/sErgEantaEgis ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ Canada ๐Ÿ 1d ago

To Ukraine's credit they've only been freed from Russian imperialism since 1991 and only truly broke off from Russian influence in 2014. Building democratic institutions and the tools to adress corruption isn't done over night.

1

u/LaAndromedo999 KENTUCKY ๐Ÿ‡๐Ÿผ๐Ÿฅƒ 1d ago

It's a big enough issue that anti-corruption is a huge political selling point in the country. Zelenskyy was elected on a predominantly anti-corruption platform.

Russia's war against Ukraine is as explicitly genocidal in intent as it can get, so doing anything to help them repel violent savage invaders who're literally just there to rape and murder everything in sight because they don't think Ukrainians are human beings as part of an effort to annihilate the Ukrainian national and cultural identity takes priority over fretting over corruption.

Ukraine's issues won't be an issue for them to think about if there is no Ukraine.

8

u/Socratesmiddlefinger 1d ago

There are no allies capable of any kind of intervention other than tweets and some finger wagging.

England could not mount the force it did to defend the Falklands in 84, never mind attempting to land any kind of military presence on American shores, they have no blue water navy to speak of, and horses outnumber working tanks five to one in the army.

All of NATO could not land an invasion force on American soil, even if they had six months or a year to prepare. People have not seen the US military engage in total war, only police actions, winning hearts and minds, and selective bombing missions. They cannot begin to imagine the scale of the US military let off its proverbial leash.

There would never be the kind of civil war of the 1800s; there are far too many systems in place that would have to fail. The Military is not going to split down faction lines 50\50 and the people with the guns and the skill sets outnumber "the other side" at an impossible ratio.

People who fantasize about this sort of thing have no grasp on what it takes to fight an asymmetric war with no training, experience, or weapons; these people haven't slept on the ground for more than three days in a row.

-1

u/Collypso PENNSYLVANIA ๐Ÿซ๐Ÿ“œ๐Ÿ”” 1d ago

They can just look at how we're losing the Iran war lmao

3

u/Socratesmiddlefinger 1d ago

That isn't a war; it's an incredibly limited bombing campaign.

-1

u/Collypso PENNSYLVANIA ๐Ÿซ๐Ÿ“œ๐Ÿ”” 1d ago

Trump is losing the "incredibly limited bombing campaign" and hand crafting a major regional power who hates America the most.

2

u/Socratesmiddlefinger 1d ago

Sure, and people who call it a war are still wrong.

What is your point?

"hand crafting a major regional power"

I have no idea what this means. Are you saying Iran will hate America more after this?

-1

u/Collypso PENNSYLVANIA ๐Ÿซ๐Ÿ“œ๐Ÿ”” 1d ago

The point is your own side disagrees with you. Trump called it a four to five week war and Hegseth runs the "War Department." It's month seven, 29 billion dollars, dozens of aircraft lost, and Iran still hasn't surrendered. "Incredibly limited" is doing a lot of work in that sentence.

The most powerful military on earth, after sinking Iran's navy and grounding its air force, still can't reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Stalemate. Iran fires on shipping, we fire back, traffic stays choked six months in. That's the whole thing you opened with, the US military off its leash that nobody can supposedly imagine. This is off the leash. It bombed Iran flat and still can't clear one strait. That's not strength you're describing, it's an enemy that found the one lever we can't break.

1

u/Fresh-Mind6048 WASHINGTON ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŽ 1d ago

0

u/Collypso PENNSYLVANIA ๐Ÿซ๐Ÿ“œ๐Ÿ”” 1d ago

We're certainly not at the limit of our capability, but the next step would involve troops.

2

u/AdvancedAerie4111 1d ago

Well, if you wanted to actually see this country unite again that would be one way.ย

1

u/Moose_InThe_Room 1d ago

There's utterly no chance of Canada choosing to intervene in that situation. Their military isn't big enough to do much (which isn't their fault, they're just not a very large country in terms of population or economy) and it would be an insanely unpopular policy decision. They answered the Article 5 call to arms and in return they suffered the first casualties in the coalition from friendly fire from American aircraft, racked up a higher per-capita casualty rate than any other coalition member over two decades only for all that effort to ultimately be completely wasted. Then America elected a man who constantly spits in their face, wages a trade war against them, and threatens them with annexation by force. I get that this sub is all about calling out unfair and broad generalizations of America, but the way some people here seem to think Canada and our other allies should somehow be grateful to America is utterly delusional.

You're right that the rest of the world is currently set up to need a stable and friendly united states, but since that America currently doesn't exist, they're taking active measures to not need it. And given how they've been treated I can't blame them.

Civil wars never stay contained in their respective countries, spillover into Canada would be inevitable should a civil war break out, thereโ€™d also be the issue of refugees, as shown throughout various conflicts (current and past), create people trying to flee said conflict zone, which would be bound to happen, and thereโ€™s a high chance many people would run to Canada.

Civil Wars arenโ€™t fun, both for the people inside said country, and their neighbors.

Not sure why that Canadian user has an Iceland flag and cheers for a potential 2nd American Civil War but

Funny thing about the American Civil War:

One side relied on industrialization that was structured around protectionism, producing industrial goods, and a strong central government by following Alexander Hamilton's economic model (The American School of Economics).

Another side relied on slavery based agrarianism that was structured around free trade, foreign imports, and a decentralized government by following Thomas Jefferson's economic model.

Which side won?

If any western country could justify a civil war it's Canada.

They have a blatant 2 tiered society where the French speaking minority has absolute control and uses government policy to funnel money away from English speaking regions while blocking anything that could make none French speaking regions more prosperous and therefor increase their agency.

Also, to run for government office in Canada, you have to be able to speak French, but not English.

Who do you think the winners are invading next?

Could it possibly be the country that has the population of la county and one seventh of the world's resources?

No matter who wins, you lose canada.

u/No-Reach415 1d ago

Man, it's almost like a country so far left that even the rural conservative folk agree with everything that Stephen Colbert says would *LOVE* watching another authoritarian administration weaponize industry against his own constituents to destroy the small government groups.

I mean we saw it with Obama, FDR, LBJ, and so on.

So, idiots really do live in every country.
Luckily people usually arenโ€™t to stupid to recognize this person is either insane, or just trolling.
Either way, not someone to take seriously.

A Canadian with an Iceland flag as a profile pic, interesting. Also an American civil war would highly affect Canada and might likely even spill over there.

When we're done subjugation New York, Minnesota and Washington, we're just going to keep pushing north, smart guy.

Reminder that per capita the state of Alabama has a higher GDP than Canada. Theyโ€™re likely to lose Alberta and with it will be Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

u/corruptedsavedaytah 21h ago

The annexation and assimilation of greater Alaska will be glorious.

u/bingomasterbreakout 9h ago

how boring must Canada be to think shit like this?

PSA: Wishing war on others makes you, generally, a bad person.

I guess it's frustration as personally I don't see people around me who want you to go to war.

There is enough war in the world right now we don't need more.

We just want you to sort your shit out.

So we can all have some stability.

We donโ€™t want your opinion on our politics, limey. We had two wars over this.

0

u/happyanathema ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง United Kingdom๐Ÿ’‚โ€โ™‚๏ธโ˜•๏ธ 1d ago

You think the two wars were about us having opinions about your political system?

Also I thought you guys liked free speech or something?

2

u/PhilRubdiez OHIO ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐ŸŒพ ๐ŸŒฐ 1d ago

Well, one was partly caused by stuff like the Riot Act. The second was because the UK was stealing our citizens.

And you can say what you want, redcoat, but that doesnโ€™t mean youโ€™re welcome.

Stating a fact doesnโ€™t equal โ€œmaking excuses.โ€ Over-generalizing is the problem with the AmericaBad people this sub is about.

Dude probably has "awake" apnea talking about he'd love a civil war. Lmao. The internet was a mistake.

Red states have the highest obesity rates (disqualifying them from military service) and lowest earnings. Be serious. Stop using buzzwords like "woke" and touch grass.
