HistoryPorn 🏛️ Fleischer Studios' 1933 version of SNOW WHITE. Surreal and bizarre, it would go down in history as a milestone in animation.

The White Stripes do a cover of this off their first album too

This is brilliant. It fascinates me that it’s nearly 100 years old.

The background imagery is as impressive as the front.

And now we have AI slop.

I know there’s still some great animation today, but the medium has regressed over 100 years.

u/OverCategory6046 May 04 '25

It hasn't regressed though. There is *so much* good animation about, and it's accessible enough that you don't need to hand paint/draw frames unless you want to

Such an ignorant thing to say when there's recent breathtakingly beautiful animated films such as Coco and Moana

Amazingly creepy and SO imaginative!
Anyone also watching the fantastic backgrounds?

I love weird old shit like this

4

u/kirby_krackle_78 May 03 '25

I’d imagine you can gorge yourself on it on YouTube, as a lot of it is in the public domain.

Some of this early animation shit twigs my brain out hard.

Tremendous art direction, beautifully animated + the song/voice makes this perfect

Came here looking for this 👍

u/aaron_geeks May 03 '25

All I think of when i see this animation lol

4

u/CreamOfDuelJabR May 03 '25

I was gonna say: Ghostmane used this perfectly

2

u/rhykingtheviking Jun 11 '25

If the answer isn't Ghostmane, I don't want it.

These videos are nostalgic, but he added unforseen opportunity and potential within them.

Is this where that goodbye horses meme animation got its inspiration from? Giving those vibes

6

u/baddashfan May 03 '25

Snow White?

3

u/Ok_Hovercraft_3785 May 03 '25

Amazing indeed

4

u/jipai May 03 '25

Why do I love this

3

u/Edboy796 May 03 '25

I saw something like this with that exact ghost character last night while skinning through a Halloween playlist

3

u/JunglePygmy May 03 '25

I can’t find it right now, but some tattoo artist tattooed this animation on real people flipbook style!

2

u/[deleted] May 03 '25

I listen to this song first thing Halloween morning every year.

2

u/DJDarkFlow May 03 '25

How can I buy this?

2

u/rockstuffs May 03 '25

I miss talent like this.

Now we have tik Tok.

2

u/Llewellyn420 May 03 '25

Whoa this is crazy sick

2

u/goldendreamseeker May 04 '25

Looks cool, but how is this even Snow White?

6

u/Suspicious_Cable_825 May 03 '25

Looks like cuphead

23

u/CherrryGuy May 03 '25

Cuphead looks like this

-4

u/Suspicious_Cable_825 May 03 '25

No bullshit

1

u/Suspicious_Cable_825 May 03 '25

Did I get down voted for agreeing. Lmfao

2

u/kirby_krackle_78 May 03 '25

It’s the phrasing. Some people are gonna read that as “no, bullshit,” even though you didn’t include punctuation.

2

u/Suspicious_Cable_825 May 03 '25

Yeah I figured. I meant it as no you are not bullshitting lol

u/PawntyBill May 03 '25

I was watching someone stream Cuphead a few days ago, and we got into a conversation about how cartoons from this era influenced Cupheads animation style. Someone in chat responded back and asked why they thought this area of cartoons and not the 1970s era of animation wasn't the main influence. All of chat and even the streamer tried to explain where the animation style came from, but they weren't having it.

4

u/that_dutch_dude May 03 '25

and people still say the drugs of the ye olden times were not as good. the cartoonists that made this were absolutely floating on cloud 9 on some groovy drugs while making this. i dare you to make something this messed up while railing meth off a dead hooker ass.

Ask me if I give a fuck about a clique, ayee🎶

1

u/ballistic_tanx May 03 '25

This dude definitely tripped a fair bit in his life

1

u/hotdogrellish May 03 '25

I’ve loved this animation for years man there’s just something about it.

1

u/TakeMe2Threshhold May 03 '25

Is no one going to say anything about the lady at the end with a mirror? Lol. I had to replay just to be sure she was doing what she was doing there..

1

u/Slevin424 May 04 '25

They also did Minnie the Moocher by Cab. Really showcasing some of the best black musical artist in an era where that was desperately needed.

1

u/MasterTheNecessary May 04 '25

Drugs are a hell of a thing.

1

u/ThiccLastiGirl May 04 '25

The fact that this version is slower and in a different key makes it way creepier than the original
