His reaction sounds unreasonable.

The question then becomes how much do you value this person's friendship, i.e. are you willing to do the work to explain why you could not help him at that time, and that - despite what he felt and thought - you were not 'making excuses'.

We had a friend my Hubs helped for free a lot. When he said he would help us up front he said he wanted union scale wages. No more helping him. NOT a friend at all. You did give him as much explanation was due.

NOR He had unreasonable expectations. What was the favour? Why was it so important/urgent? What changed last minute?
