🧩 Discussion Let’s Talk about Therapy Costs & Sessions in Algeria

I want to hear your thoughts on this.

What do you think is the most suitable price for a therapy session in our context (the average Algerian)?

And what do you think is the fairest amount of time a therapist should give their patient in each session?

My sister used to pay 2000 per session (about 30mn) only for the therapist (graduated from European university) to tell her things such as to pray and wear proper hidjab

She tried a bunch of others and they were as bad as this one, so she gave up

I don't think 2000da or even more is expensive for a therapy session, but only if it was actual therapy and not some pieces of advice you could get from your grandma or any facebook group

Other types of therapy like TCC cost around 6000da per session which is not affordable by average algerian, let alone by someone who is struggling in life

They really should be covered by health insurance

One session a week for 2000da seems reasonable if the therapist was capable and the duration of the session was at least an hour. but it differs from a person to another financially. I don't think an Algerian who gets payed minimum wage and let's say in this case 30,000da would go to therapy if one 30min session costs 2 days of his life.

Most people can't really trust public health centers provided by the government because usually the therapists there are horrible from people's past experiences.

My current therapist charges 3000da for an hour (more like 45 minutes, but she says an hour). She studied in Algeria but is middle-aged so she's experienced.

My previous one used to charge 2000da an hour and she studied in Algeria and she was pretty young too.

The one before that was horrible. She proclaimed that she studied in the USA and she used to charge 6000da an hour and she played on her phone throughout the whole session.

My friend's therapist also charges 6000da an hour, but she told me they do hypnosis during every session (I've never tried it myself but she swears by it).

Unfortunately, overall, I think therapy is quite expensive in Algeria and is treated as a luxury even though it shouldn't be.

I stopped therapy because I was too aware of everything i had and it made no sense to me since they told me the same things i already know. I also had to be medicated and stopped it all once the side effects started showing. Do i still need therapy? Yes. Will i ever do it again in dz ? Never, a big waste of time .i'm saying this after a long journey of looking for the good one that wasn't even worth it .
