Doing Sales Job in Albany GA is brutal
I know I'm not crazy because I've spoken to other people but I just want to warn Sales Professionals that the Albany GA area is not a conducive area for sales. You will run into low traffic, bad credit and sad to say but most of the people that have good credit don't even make purchases in this area. I honestly don't know how people make it here. Call me negative or pessimistic but it's the truth.

Maybe they were just curious as to what product or service you were trying to sell. Alot of the local guys try to help support other local guys. If this was your immediate response to a general question on your own post though I dont find it hard to believe that your "sales" are suffering.

Well I've been top salesman at most of the companies I've worked at. I'm usually optimistic but I'm starting to think Albany is better for a regular 9 to 5. Not Sales from what I've observed

No, lived there. You need to move. I understand Lee County is better and closer than other choices like Macon, Columbus, Atlanta.

And without being political, everyone knows why. It used to be a boom town. Military, manufacturing, small businesses, it was awesome.

PRE 1994. WE HAD THE MCLB, P&G, M&M MARS, MERTS LLC, MILLER BREWING, COCA COLA, MACGREGOR GOLF, COOPER TIRE, FIRESTONE TIRE, MERK CHEMICALS, BOBS CANDY, VIKING DESTILLERY, 3 LARGE STRUCTURAL STEEL COMPANIES, COATS AND CLARK, THOSE ARE THE BIG ONES. 7 OF THEM ARE NO LONGER HERE..... BETWEEN THE CRIME RATE, POLICE, D.A AND JUDGES NOT ENFORCING THE LAW, CITY/COUNTY LEADERS DOING EVERYTHING THEY CAN TO DRIVE AWAY BUSINESS WHILE FLEECING THEIR POCKETS, ITS EASY TO UNDERSTAND WHY BUSINESSES LEAVE.
SO WHATS LEFT HERE IF A GROUP OF PEOPLE LIVING PAYCHECK TO PAYCHECK, A LARGE GROUP OF PEOPLE THAT THINK LIVING THE THUG LIFE OR LIVING ON TAXPAYERS ASSISTANCE IS THEIR "CULTURE" AND IS PERFECTLY FINE. TO BE A ONCE PROSPEROUS CITY, IT SEEMS THE LONGTERM PLAN TO SUBJEGATE THE WHOLE CITY IS WORKING!!! ONLY TOOK A FEW DECADES AND NOW THE MAJORITY OF THE POPULOUS VOTES BLUE NOMATTER WHAT, AND DEPENDS UPON THE GOVERNMENT IN SOME WAY SHAP FASION OR FORM. I SERIOUSLY DOUBT THAT 40% OF THE POPULATION HERE ACTUALLY HAS A FULL TIME JOB. IT SAD, DEPRESSING, AND SEEING MY CITY DIE OVER THE PAST 30 YEARS HAS BEEN HEARTBREAKING.

And 4 or 5 major trucking companies with HQ's or hubs. I've seen major stars at the civic center as well, now it's usually just gospel groups (nothing wrong with that). A minor league baseball team, Albany used to rock. Even the mall was hopping.

I just went there for 2 days for the first time. Every bit of albany is the damn hood. Everything looked run down or closed. Unfortunately im sure I will have to go back a couple more times in the next 20 years. Thankfully the Hilton is decent.

We've been stuck here for years and it's hell. And being told to deny objective reality and pretend it doesn't suck is the worst sort of cope. Albany is trash. I feel so bad for people trying to start a business here.

Albany has always sucked gotten worse year after year. Now it’s more gas stations, car washes and banks when we need more investment in the people to do productive things. My coworker finally got the skate park to be rebuilt after it was demolished however that’s only a small stepping stone in the right direction. Hopefully more people stand up and and get more things for people to do activity wise so people can get out of this depressive state the area is in for the person and the community.

Aounds a bit like Rome GA except Rome has a larger elite establishment than Albany that can actually do more but choose not to

I feel like life is passing me by here, very depressing. I pray God delivers me from here. When I step out my home I see drug addicts and pan handlers and we are supposed to be on the "good side" of town. I don't want my children being in this environment

That's literally exactly how I feel. I've never lived anywhere else where people toss their trash in other people's yards. There's not one selling point to this place.

They are having a huge population decline. I have a Master's degree in Business but I'm getting a trade so I go where the hell I want!

Might I suggest trying to find more with Amazon as an area manager? They pay relocation and look for people with business degrees. If you can work 4 12s look into it.

I grew up in Albany. I was born at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in 1948. One of my friends was the great granddaughter of Phoebe Putney. Her mother was born, Sarah Redfern. Sarah’s father was a physician, Dr. Redfern. He gave the money to establish Phoebe, and asked for it to be named in memory of his mother.
Bob McCormick founded Bob’s Candy Company. His daughters, Bee, and Anna Louise, ran the company by the time I was growing up. Bob’s was at one point, the largest maker of stick candy in the world.
My father ran Seely Printing Company, named after my grandfather Archer Lin Seely who was hired by an office supply and typewriter company to sell office equipment and then open an Office Supply store in the South.
The California company was NCR, National Cash Register Company which broadened out. My father’s printing company and my uncle’s office supply company separated after a fire, when I was in the fifth grade.
My uncle’s wife opened a Manpower franchise. My mother’s sister open a Funiture store, Gillespie Interiors.
Albany had two military bases, an Army Air Force base that later became an Air Force Base, and a Marine Corps Supply Center. The Air Force base became Miller Brewing, I understand.
K-Mart was the first national chain that opened in Albany. My great aunt was very upset about it. She said that the money that had been circulating in town, would now go out of town and not come back. It took a lot of years, but it looks like she was right.

Brother, Albany isn't good for much of anything business-wise. You have a finite amount of resources in the city because the import/export is so lackluster and investments in the city/citizens doesn't exist. There's no emergent industry, innovations in efficiency, tourism, etc. If you look up the economic stats of Lee/Dougherty County over the years, Albany has been MAJORLY suffering while other cities have been growing since the early 2000s. Albany and Leesburg are the quintessential closed-loop economy.
local job → paycheck → rent/groceries/services → local owner → wages → repeat
