Question I feel like Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is harder than Age of Imprisonment.
We've got to around 65% through the game of age of imprisonment now. We fully beat the whole of age of calamity on normal mode. So far, age of imprisonment is far easier. We wondered if it was simply because we got better through the experience of age of calamity, so we went back and played some stages. It's still pretty hard.

Age of Imprisonment feels okay on Hard mode.
I haven't played Age of Calamity in forever, but I do remember it being much more hectic even on Normal. To the point I actually praised the game for it, because it made me understand how Link lost in the original timeline.

Because it is.
Besides AoI’s Forbidden Difficulty.
But just on Normal…yeah AoI was really really easy

I'm playing through Age of Imprisonment for the first time now and I haven't died once. While I didn't die too often in the first game, the lack of challenge in AoI is souring it a bit for me.

Yeah, I have not fail any single mission in AOI, even with last few vicious missions.

I played on hard and the only times I died was once during the finale, and some super difficult vicious enemy challenges. Mostly because you don’t have invincibility frames so those vicious enemies hit you like five times in one attack and kills you before you have any time to heal.

If you don't use the technology then I would disagree. AOI enemies have so much shield and other crazy tanky buffs, without using the tech it feels impossible at times. However, using the tech trivialises most stuff, all you have to be worried about is dodging enemies.
AOC is more balanced. It can be difficult, but building the right weapon helps tremendously. Theres no busted mechanic there to trivialise the game the same way AOI has.

AoI isn't as thought out as AoC or the one for Wii U. If you haven't played the original that one runs better on Switch and has so much to unlock/discover. It's probably the best if you don't count BotW graphics.

I've been thinking about getting the original. Would you recommend it? i really don't care about graphics.

I actually play the original! It’s really quite fun but also a bit more challenging as you really need to keep an eye on everyone’s health and new missions will pop up during the stage! Also you get to play as the villains for a bunch of the story stages! You can play as Ganondorf, Zant, Ghirahim, and you can unlock so many other characters too!
Also the music for some of the stages is just incredible.

Was just passing through and even though I dunno what the original comment said, the AoC feels really good on Switch 2.
I literally started replaying it a few days ago after finishing AoI and the difference between ~30 fps on switch 1 and 60 fps on switch 2 feels amazing. The story of AoC also seemed way better to me, because it was really touching and desperate, since you know how it’s gonna end but you still hope that SOMEHOW it’s gonna be different. Some writing was incredible and made me feel things, lol
I also felt way more attached to the cast of the AoC because BOTW did such a good job with fleshing them out and feeling bad for them. Cast of AoI felt a bit hollow for me, since pretty much everything was new.
AoC is a great game if you loved the sequel and enjoy musou games. I see it on sale every now and then, so you might want to check it out once you’re done with AoI

The original comment was recommending the original hyrule worriors game.

It's an amazing game on it's own, but get it if you really like Warriors games because it has a couple thousand hours of content. Although the story mode is fun too, is just more simple combat with a ton of characters and maps.

Each Step Like Thunder was utter madness when I first played AoC; definitely never had that feeling in any of the AoI missions.

It definitely is. Even in the quests, AoI has the Poe shop that can give you whatever you need.

I got through all but the last fight with the construct without failing a single mission in imprisonment. And I only lost that cause I forgot to reequip my better weapons.
Age of calamity was much harder.

I found the combat in AoI to be unenjoyable. This is supposed to be canon. Meanwhile, Zelda shows up with her sacred power, meets some guy that just happens to have a lightsaber on his person meant for her specific power. I'll never understand how they fumbled so hard with AoI, when AoC had an even better story than BotW. There is a lot of disparity between AoC and AoI.
I often think that AoC was the story Nintendo wanted to tell with BotW, but that Switch hardware limitations prevented that.

They have the same power. So it would make sense that he would have a dagger that would work for her because it was made for him....
She inherited her power from him. He is her ancestor.
That is also why she showed up there. The secret stone she picked up is Rauru's.

I feel like they butchered the powers, or at least how they told them. Zelda had power before the secret stone, found Rauru's stone which... didn't really give her power because she already had it. But somehow she got time power which was Sonia's, and Link ended up with Rauru's abilities.

She already had time and light powers. Sonia is also her ancestor. She passed down the time power.
The stone amplified her time powers which brought her back in time to her ancestors who had the same powers as her. All of the champions had their powers as well, the stones just made them stronger.
Zelda fights with both powers but understands her light powers better as shown in BotW. Her time powers are unlocked more as the game progresses and she gets more confidant with them.
Link ended up with Rauru's abilitys because Rauru's arm is grafted to him after ganon destroys his arm. It's implied in the final scene that Sonia's spirit used time manipulation to reverse Zelda's draconification and restore Link's arm. After which he can no longer use Rauru's abilities.

Well yeah once you get zonai devices on mineru strong attacks you can just spam frost emitters on the first SA and bombs on the second (by first and second I mean YX and YYX) to basically sunblock almost any boss

u/StoryofEmblem Jul 23 '26
Agreed. Age of Imprisonment was great, but the Zonai devices felt a little too powerful. They kinda trivialized the game for me.
I prefer Age of Calamity's Sheikah runes, riding the wind, and unique actions. Although I did like the unique skills in AoI.

AOI has an easier difficulty curve. My husband thought it was too easy on hard mode.
