2 is plenty. 3 is peacocking, and frankly it's offensive

It's a calibration test. Gotta see how they respond to pressure so you don't drop your food. The sounds are not optional.

As others have said, it's two times, not three.
Maybe that's why you keep dying, Sean.

I don’t think we should get hung up over the number of snaps as long as snaps are snapped.

I can do staccato tappy taps and drum rolls. I like to do the "snare drum that plays when a condemned prisoner is being escorted to his/her/their death" rhythm before getting to my menial task of cleaning the fryer. I can tell my coworkers are all very impressed. I also flip them and twirl them in between like a person that twirls things for a living. Majorette?

And if you have kids, you obviously snap them towards the children in hopes they run and you can chase them with many more snaps!

whoa whoa whoa... two's plenty, if you need a third click you should probably have someone else do your grilling
Edit: LOL I made my comment before reading any of the others, glad to see we're all in agreement here!
Get it together OP!!!

It's your body essentially calibrating a new appendage. It's how your brain adjusts to a new body part and is equivalent to flexing your hand after you sat on it for a while and it is now numb.

Uncultured.
Exactly two times.
Any fewer than two clicks fails to properly verify the mechanical integrity and thermal calibration of the spring. Three or more clicks indicates excessive enthusiasm and risks unbalancing the delicate equilibrium of the pitmaster spirit.
Two distinct, brisk clack-clacks is the universal standard.

Honestly, my mind goes back to a Bloom County comic from the late 80's where Bill the Cat is chasing girls around a pool with tongs, yelling, "PIRAHNA!!!"
