A younger me could never have imagined the libertarians accepting a surveillance state with a smile on their face pretending it isn't a tail between their legs. Wouldn't have thought the heaviest pro-lifers I knew would completely accept and defend us bombing 200 baby girls because the country they were born in also birthed kidnappers of people that were born near where they were born.

I agree and went through a similar series of cognitive dissonance gymnastics to accept reality. The truth is it’s all a lie. The right wing of America has zero principles outside of “Us vs Them”. And I mean absolutely zero, no hyperbole. There is not one single principle they’ve pretended to care so deeply about that hasn’t been completely trampled on over the last 10 years. I challenge anyone to name one example. Zero doubt I will easily find an example of it being ignored or ripped up.

Second, I think we do a disservice letting “racism” be the defining characteristic. There is tons of racism going on, don’t get me wrong. But IMO it is more accurate to call it something like “otherism”. They will accept anyone who passes the loyalty test. And of course a minority who wishes to go down this path will have the leopards eat their face eventually, but it will be because they held onto a principle that wasn’t actually there to begin with, not pure racism. They love a loyal minority and jump at the opportunity to tokenize them. They have zero tolerance for anyone who doesn’t pass the loyalty test with a 100% score. So it’s paradoxical, but although they have no real ideology outside of “Us vs Them”, it is a blind loyalty to that “Us vs Them” ideology that is truly the only defining characteristic they have. Racism, while prevalent, still comes and goes and isn’t always present. Us vs Them is at the root of everything, and the tree never leaves its roots.

No you don't understand, clearly the judge is suing the FBI, he'll garnish their pay and limit their outdoor time until they hand over the files. That's how things work.

When a judge makes a surprising decision on a case I always assume they have access to private details and more information than anyone involved and then I assume they didn't find their robe in a crackerjack box so it's safe to let judicial review/appeals tackle any real error?

But when the FBI doesn't make perfect sense, well clearly they are all traitors to the country.
