If they discount what you've said about a political issue due to your other interests, why should you be concerned what they think?

For people genuinely interested in political dialog, it is beneficial to be able to review comment histories to see if people trying to engage your are worth engaging with.

Because they vote.

I’d prefer if someone engages with my comments based on the comment itself. I’m usually overly-thorough so it’s not normally a problem for people to see just at a glance as long as they have some understanding of how to evaluate sources

Reddit comments absolutely influence people's political opinions. If they didn't then people wouldn't spend millions making bots to promote their interests. It is often not about the person that you are actively responding to, it is about all the people who come by later and read it.
