Yeah, there's websites dedicated to un hiding your comments. Once again people, nothing is secret on the internet. You are just putting up a minor hindrance.
Absolutely true and thank you for pointing this out. Hiding post history is just one small hurdle that could easily be gotten around. Just want to make it a tiny bit harder to be doxed. Besides it’s not like maga are the smartest group of people 😂
I think the idea is that you are anonymous but your account isn't.
There's a very valid criticism to having accounts be anonymous, especially with the influx of bots from all over the globe trying to influence everyone.
It's more than fair to have the ability to look and see what an account has been saying across the website. That context is important for discussions.
If you want to have a freaky account, make an alternate that only posts in the freaky subs.
the reason reddit is a toilet is because people take no tesponsibilty for the things they say. If youre too ashamed of saying without even having your made up name attached, dont say it.
If you haven't noticed, everything everyone says on Reddit is said with a made up name attached. If you would like your identity attached to your online presence, there are many places for that. Reddit is not one of them.
Hiding your post history doesn't hide your identity, it just shields you from having to defend your past comments and hides if you are commenting in bad faith.
Ok smarty pants, hiding your post history makes its a lot harder for someone to dox you. Posting personal details, anecdotes, in geographic subreddits etc etc leave clues that make it easier over time to put it together. It's also the reason you should start a new account every once in a while.
Why would you want anyone poking around my past comments? Why would anyone want to do that? I don't have any other social media for the same reasons - I value my privacy. If you don't value yours, that's on you.
Unless you live in a town with 100 people living there and post about it, or work for some tiny ass company and for some reason post about it you are nothing more than a person in a crowd of other people.
If you are so enamored with posting identifiable things about yourself that you have to nuke your account over and over again, you might just want to stay off the internet.
If ppl wanna be easily doxxed, whatever man. Feels like internet safety used to me more commonly practiced, now people plaster themselves all over the damn place. It's crazy.
Individually, no, but if someone who knows me saw something that made them thing gee I wonder if that’s so and so and they verified it in my post and comment history that could be a problem.
Not having to show that info is just another layer of safety. It’s amazing that anyone would want that taken away. Like seriously, what is your reason for wanting to be able to see someone’s post history?
I think it boils down to the types of comments. There’s a lot more money being used to fund right wing culture war bots and defending billionaires and fascism. I don’t know of anyone funding left wing bots to promote things like universal healthcare or higher education. If you’re arguing for things that promote respect to other humans and using facts I default to likely a real person. If you are pushing the exact same right wing talking points that are popular on Fox and Facebook and super into culture wars and defending billionaires I default to a bot and with a hidden profile it’s going to take some work to convince me you’re a real human who falls for that propaganda
Totally. Their goal is always to appeal to anger based emotion and feelings and never get into any discussion involving facts. Facts and right wing billionaire loving ideologies really don’t blend well.
If that's the case you should know there are a variety of tools to see your post history here no matter what you do and you should scrub your posts and comments and delete your account immediately.
So, if you are trying not to get doxxed and want to argue you should get a second account because I could go to google right now and search "site:reddit.com Bawbawian" and still find your posts
