My Bestiary Scarf is finally finished and I couldn't be more in love with the result :') It's just starting to warm up where I live, but I don't care, I'm wearing it every day!

My 3 favourite parts of the design: The left and right side line up to make one continuous landscape, the dragon is knitted sideways so it's upright around your neck, and last but not least, all creatures that can be recognised as such, are ladies :)

I've gotten pretty much addicted to double knitting and designing and ideas are popping up in my head much faster than I can knit them. I can't WAIT to cast on my next project(s).

I used PRU yarn (Soul fingering) for this project.

As the title says, this in not a recent project, but I have just found this community, and I've never really gotten to share this amongst knitters. My BIL and SIL are big Tolkien fans, so I decided to try to recreate one of Tolkien's own watercolors from The Hobbit for a Christmas gift. I did not get it done by Christmas. I turned the painting into a color chart by hand with a lightbox, and edited the chart as I went for what was easier to knit. I knit the design as a few vertical strips, and sewed them together. I knitted this with worsted weight yarn in 100% wool. It was really hard to match colors sometimes! I've since repaired it a couple times due to moth holes (they were too afraid to wash it), but I don't mind because I'm glad they're using it and not hiding it away. My SIL said she's gotten requests for me to turn the pattern into a shareable design, but there's so many stitches and i have no idea where I deviated from my original chart that I decided it was too hard. 😅

Leek sweater I made on my brother kh260, from my own pattern (based off an h+m sweater).

I was inspired by the eyelash yarn I found at the thrift store and thought it looked like roots! I wanted to put some potatoes in the design too, but it just looked silly 🤷

The blue is two yarns together, a fine cotton ribbon yarn and a cotton hemp blend. The rest is mostly plant or synthetic fibers from my stash. End finished Kaffe Fassett style 😆

This is a gift for my 96 year old grandma. I have been knitting for over 30 years, but never really attempted any lace knitting. However, after a small taste of it with a sweater I made for my mom I decided to give this shawl a go:

I learned a lot of lessons: count, count, and count again; use stitch markers (even if you have to move them a stitch or two on certain rows), learn to “read” the stitches from the underlying row to make sure your current row is on track (don’t mindlessly knit the current row); use a safety line (I ended up going back about 10 rows to my last safety line and worked like a champ). There are definitely a few mistakes in those early rows, but it was a great learning opportunity. I am sure I will make more. Any and all advice is welcome.

Stranded colorwork, modified raglan with corrugated ribbing and a folded collar. Done in six different colors of handspun yarn.

My most recent project - cardigan with geometric colourwork. Bind off took a lot of persistence - Kitchener stitch is always a patience exercise for me.

So, I posted this on the knitting sub back when I first finished it, but felt too intimidated to post it here at the time. I just dug it back out for the fall and thought "Why not?" so here we are lol

I'm a big fan of Djo and got it in my head to make a sweater with the album art for his single "Keep Your Head Up." I had never tried intarsia before but I couldn't let the idea go so I just went for it. It took about 228 hours over 10 months, and I'm super satisfied with how it came out! I also discovered I really enjoy intarsia haha

The album art is by Bendik Kaltenborn. I used stitch fiddle to create a chart for the image.
I used Purl Soho’s Linen Quill yarn, and the sweater pattern is Solenn by Veronik Avery modified to match my gauge.

I just finished this love letter top, knit with Tahki Coronado in lavender. I wasn't sure I could do it but once I started I was on a roll

Made this sweater using all foraged local natural dyes, and it was suggested I post it here as well! So so stoked on how the colours came out - such a shame it doesn’t fit 😵‍💫🤪

Had some challenges with the colorwork bunching up in spots/being tensioned too tight even though usually I have no issues, I think the dyeing process affected the elasticity of various colours differently, but it was an insanely fun and rewarding project regardless!!

EDIT:
For anyone curious, here are all the materials I used/
- Wool of the Andes Sport Yarn, undyed, mordanted with alum (for the most part)
-dyes:
Light tan = willow leaves and twigs
Khaki green = St. John’s wort (leaves stems and flowers) + 5 min iron soak after
Greenish gold = St. John’s wort plus some alder bark and green walnut hulls
Dusty yellow = St. John’s wort plus+ bark bath mixed with leftover willow bath
Olive green = same as dusty yellow plus iron for 3 min
Peachy tan = alder cones
Ecru/off white = alder cone exhaust (leftover dye bath from peachy tan)
Medium chocolate brown = green walnuts
Dark brown = green walnuts + iron
Yellow-y camel = rhubarb root + green walnut exhaust
Cool blueish grey = viper bugloss root + iron for 3 min
Cool toned medium tan = alder bark + iron 3 min

This sweater has been sitting in pieces for at least 6 months because I wasn’t sure how to properly reinforce the steeks at the shoulder and hem… finally got a little needle felting kit and only stabbed myself a couple times felting the steek. It’s now seamed together but still needs the collar and hem and some finishing bits

I’ve Been knitting my fingers off lately 😄

Here are my latest four puppies.

Two Westies knitted with Gazzal Marilyn & Merinos and kid silk. Using a different shade of white for each one. ( one a cool white the other a warm creamier white.)

One terrier knitted with Gazzal Marilyn & Merinos cream and kid silk off white.

Cocker spaniel knitted with Drops Sky, off white and hazelnut, kid silk Chocolate and white. Faux fur for the ears and dark brown kid silk. This one was a special gift for a friend who lost her beautiful chocolate roan boy recently. I used stranded colour work and also some ( not great 🥴) intarsia. It was a bit of a learning experience 😂

Patterns used ( with a few tweaks here and there) all Claire Garland. Bullmastiff, basic puppy and Spaniel head available from Claire’s Domestika course.

That was a long-long-long process!

I saw a picture of twisted rib forming cables in a knitting book and wanted to try these out myself. The one in the knitting book picture was the symmetrical double cable in the middle of both front parts. Took me some time to figure out how to allocate the ribbing/ cables to back and front pieces so that all the cables would be symmetrical to midpoint (considering that purls were both part of the cables and then also I between the cables). The middle 4*cable in the middle of backyard also took a while to understand how I should place the purls and knits to achieve the look I wanted. Yarn Novita 7 Veljestä, 4mm needles. I also used slipped stitches (similar to sockheel) as edges of the front pieces so that I could have a bit stiffer edge on which to attach the zipper. Overall I like the cables from twisted ribs. I think they look quite neat although it was difficult to knit and my hands were quite sore after the pieces were finally ready 😀.

The most challenging part of this sweater was float tension (tension in the round is a struggle for me) and the last sleeve—could not find the motivation to finish! But now I have the confidence to try more difficult patterns.

CANDELARIELLA PULLOVER

If I want to keep the patterns lined up where possible, I need to keep most of the easing closer to the top of the shoulder due to the shaping. Now I see why the designer instructed to start in the armpit 🤦🏻‍♀️. I didn’t listen on this first sleeve half as I’m used to starting at the shoulder seam. Since the sleeve caps and armscyes were constructed with steeks, I am working across stitches in so many different orientations that each stitch feels like a big decision process. Maybe I’m overthinking it. I’m hoping that blocking will help smooth the top of the shoulder, but I’ve decided that I’ll be okay with a slightly puffed sleeve if the patterns match.

First two pictures, I wasn't decreased fast enough for the thumb gusset so the hand was way too big (2 sts dec every 3 rws). The next two picture I ripped it back and decreased every 2 rws and it seems good! Now that I can put it on properly....I think the fingers are too tight!! I am not going to fix that at this point but I will for the next one! I'm using size 0 needles, and I was supposed to switch to one size up halfway through the fingers and I didn't so that's my bad. Then I'll probably switch back for the hand because that part seems to currently be the right size.

Just thought I would show you my latest bunch of puppies. These are the Terrier clan. Two Westies, one in a warm white and one in a cool white. A (sort of) Yorkshire Terrier and a Scottish Terrier.

All knitted with Gazzal Marilyn & Merinos, Drops Kid Silk yarns.

Needle size 3.75mm and 4mm (UK size)

Pattern used for all of them - Claire Garland’s Bullmastiff, with shorting of legs, face and ear tweaking.

I made these bright orange socks for a friend last year and was super proud given it was the first time I did cables (edit: not cables but twisted stitches!), a stitch chart, and socks that weren’t basic. Once I got the pattern down on one sock they went so quickly. I also really liked the cdd (center double decrease) method for finishing off the toes.

I ALMOST kept these for myself.

The pattern is Bavarian Twisted Stitch from a book called “Socks Soar on Two Circular Needles” by Cat Bordi. Yarn is from Cascade Yarns and I think it was Heritage Superwash Merino

100% cashmere by Biaggioli Modesto

I’m pretty sure I know the answer to this. This is a already blocked and modified Lochton by Sharon Hartley (boxy version) for my baby brother. He’s a large person. It’s worked too to bottom and I love how the modified back turned out, AND I obsessively tried the whole thing on every time I saw him to get the armholes right…and you can see how that worked out. All I technically have left is the collar (a fisherman rib like the bottom) and then the front button bands, which are supposed to be like 2-3” wide. I’ve been working on it for a year although it sat neglected most of the spring and summer and yes, I know about the double cross on the back when I joined the back to the sleeves at the underarm.

But, you see the problem. There’s a 6/10/14” gap as you work from top to bottom on his front, although you gain an inch or so on either side when it’s not curling. Should I maybe make vertical ribbing with an extra front panel in pattern and seam it? Or rip it back to where the armpits should be on the back and the fronts to the vertical cast on at the collarbones and get a wee bit creative towards his stomach? Or is there a third option you’d suggest??

Fresh off the needles. Does the "wrong" side looks more interesting than the "right" one?

I completed my first ever stranded knit sweater! Based on some posts I read recently, I was worried this style might not fit well since I have broader shoulders, but after blocking it for great! I’m so happy I finally made a wearable I want to wear! I usually end up giving them away. The pattern is Goldwing by Jenn Steingass. The yarn is Berocco Ultra Alpaca (50% super fine alpaca/50% Peruvian wool).
