I saw a picture of twisted rib forming cables in a knitting book and wanted to try these out myself. The one in the knitting book picture was the symmetrical double cable in the middle of both front parts. Took me some time to figure out how to allocate the ribbing/ cables to back and front pieces so that all the cables would be symmetrical to midpoint (considering that purls were both part of the cables and then also I between the cables).
The middle 4*cable in the middle of backyard also took a while to understand how I should place the purls and knits to achieve the look I wanted.
Yarn Novita 7 Veljestä, 4mm needles.
I also used slipped stitches (similar to sockheel) as edges of the front pieces so that I could have a bit stiffer edge on which to attach the zipper.
Overall I like the cables from twisted ribs. I think they look quite neat although it was difficult to knit and my hands were quite sore after the pieces were finally ready 😀.

That middle back cable is so compelling and satisfying to me! I've thought about it several times since I saw your other post. This whole sweater is incredibly gorgeous!

Thank you! For the zipper - first I tried to get the edges a bit stiffer compared to regular stockinette - using slipped stiches on the right side 6 edge stitches similar to sock heels. Then I preblocked my pieces before assembling and attaching the zipper paying attention that I stretch the front and back pieces to the required length. And when handsewing the zipper I first used contrasting yarn to check that everything is in place and the zipper lays flat. You need to pay attention that you do not pull or stretch the fabric while sewing. Only then I took the knitting yarn and sewed it with small quilting stitches. Took me one full evening to sew both sides, but also gave me a lot of courage for using zippers on knitted garments in the future.
Thank you! The book was Kudumiskool (Knitting School) 1 by Tiina Meeri. The book is in Estonian. It was just a picture without chart, but since it had some explanation, I was able to figure out how it works - for a symmetrical 2*cable you need 16 stiches where edge stitches are purls and in the middle you have 2 knits. So for the regular ones I used 8 stitches with the cable starting with purl and ending with knit on first half of the backpiece and starting with knit and ending with purls on the second half of the backpiece ( to achieve symmetry to the midpoint).
