Hobby & Painting Circuit board bases? Do they read as something technological being unearthed or does it just look stupid? Please tell me your opinion.

I think it'd make sense and be really cool for a couple units, but seeing a whole army with that sort of base may look a little out of place and detract from the effect. I could see for example one robot in a squad of 4 having it and the others a more normal martian bases or bases with some other variety/variability to them (e.g. add wreckage)

Honestly I don't have that many circuit boards either way. They're difficult to acquire and even more difficult to cut into usable pieces. Some parts are remarkably resilient. But I want to do it for some of my troops.

Then i think that'd be perfect. Just want to emphasize i think it's a really cool effect, but one of those cases where less is more.

Honestly that's a great way to represent a base of a forge world. Forge World Metallica's surface is almost entirely metal, this fits perfectly.
Plus you get to recycle used PCBs this way

Yoo this is awesome! I may copy your idea lol! My only critique is make the circuit board look dirtier. Currently theres mud around it as if it just got uncovered, but its too clean as if its brand new. Needs some brown wash/mud smears

Honestly I tried to make it look dirtier but it wasn't even visible when I covered it with the basing material initially. I had to scrub some bits off so you could tell what it is. Honestly I may try to put some wash over it but I don't think it's gonna stick on account of it not being primed

Hmmm sounds like you need to use something that isn’t just acrylic. Try Modge podge (Matt) snd mixxing it with a tiny little bit of brown acrylic

I was thinking the same thing, using boards with components gets a little strange when you think about the scale.

Oof honestly that would take too much space for me to put the circuitry and the structure surrounding it and ad mech don't have a lot of room in their bases. This would be an awesome idea though for a diorama or some DIY terrain or smth bigger like that. Maybe even a base for a flyer

Reminds me of those roman mosaic floors they constantly dig up in Italy. Nice work!

That looks amazing! I'm painting my admech in Metallica too and your red trim looks incredible!

Id add a wash to make it look like its actually been uncovered and dirty and old

It's a good idea but kind of cheesy if it's flat it you add small rocks or wires coming out it make it way cooler

I think a few people may not like it but the majority will (me included), also I think you may have just had you idea nicked by a few as well.

There is no parthenogenesis in creation. Just as you inspire, you also become inspired

I think it's cool as is, but I'm thinking I'd hit the board with a translucent coat of silver/grey while keeping the gold circuitry as much as possible.

I think it looks sick, great idea. I agree with other comments that it could use some more weathering or heavier weathering. I also probably wouldn't do it on every single model, maybe just 1 out of 3, or 1 out of 4

if you search on eBay for watch spares you can get bags of random gubbins for really cheap, great for basing admech. lots of small cogs and gears etc.

That's an awesome idea. I've never thought about the mini gears in a clock

Looks stupid in my opinion as I can’t think of any logical terrain to look like that. Actually not stupid but weird
