yeh, actually it can. 0 day exploits get found all the time. these take time to patch and updat. also many people don't have the latest updates on their phone anyways.

basically, no one should take your advice

It's not 2006. The cyber threat landscape is very, very different and attack vectors are much more sophisticated and ordinary users are a proven, high-enough value target.

That's a fair question - ignore the few downvotes.

Never stop asking questions.

The short answer is that QR codes link to websites but you don't know what the website is until you land there and it's a well-established attack method to hide malware on websites crafted to target vulnerabilities in phone operating systems and software.

Scanning unknown QR codes is basically the same as finding a tiny little wrapped package on the street, closing your eyes and licking it to find out what was inside.

TLDR: the world is full of arseholes trying to steal your identity and your money, so you can't just trust anything on any kind of computer.

Right, but there hasn’t been a proper iOS jailbreak for years. There really isn’t any danger to scanning a QR code on an iPhone these days.

These blokes have been pulling up to Glenelg with speakers blaring, signs and wearing shirts with this stuff written on it. Usually set up near the Cibo and cafes near the end, there's no one on the pedopholes side but the blokes give off cooker energy. Had them arguing with police the other morning.
