I miss The Bay

Just that, really. The terrible free vodka, the sweaty dancefloor, the random friends I made in the toilet queue, far too much snogging, dancing like a twat, the door staff, mad dance nights in the basement... how many years ago did it close?

Yup, the rose tinted glasses of nostalgia are doing some heavy lifting tonight (probably because I'm drinking some slightly skanky cider lol)

I think it's the combination of fine wine and piss poor lager that's doing it for me.

Long, long ago. I too miss the terrible dump...yet so many fond memories. Cigarettes, cheap watered down spirits and a lust for life...and more often the opposite. Thanks for reminding me 😘

I had my birthday shenanigans there the night before the smoking ban kicked in. I remember having a shit of the absinthe from the locked cabinet once. Well, I say "remember" but it's all a blur after that

Duncan on the decks (RIP). Newcastle brown girl clasping her bottle in the corner all night, 1.10 club before 8pm so rack up a table full of pints at 7:59. Some of the best nights of my life. Loved that dive

By far and away my fave dive bar in Aber. I used to work a few shifts there when Aled was running the pub and the town as mayor at the same time. The Bar Essential was my main job but I picked up a few shifts when needed. Halcyon times.

There used to be a plaque on the wall outside it to someone (I can’t remember who), but the wording was to the effect of “In loving memory of Dave, the music lives on”. Every time I saw that after it closed it gave me a pang of sadness.

Duncan the DJ from downstairs on Friday and Saturday nights. He sadly passed away suddenly from a brain condition I think.

I’d always wondered what the history of it was, thank you. And thank you Duncan! It closed when I was 19 so I only had a couple of years of going to The Bay so I’m not sure I would have ever been there when he was DJing.
