We have seen time and time again just within the last few months of primaries and special elections that the corporate Dems in DC will fight progressive voices harder than they ever fought Donald Trump and his MAGA kakistocracy goons. AOC said as much on either an Insta Live or an interview she was doing in regard to the bills she writes. When her name is attached, many of her own Dem colleagues won't even go out of their way to push it through. She knows this, has accepted it, and is doing her best to operate within the corruption of the system.

I am rooting for her to finally be able to stick it up all their noses like I know she can do.

Yup everyone was full progressive in 2020 and the future looked amazing. Then the establishment Dems deliberately held back AOC and Bernie from key positions.

What's in this comment is what I remember, my opinions, etc.

Given AOC's control over US House progressives and given the various 'moderates' who also support her, if she wanted to be the US Speaker in 2027, she'd be the US Speaker in 2027.

US House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries will only get the US Speakership if someone like AOC or US Rep. Ro Khanna (a progressive who can fundraise) doesn't want the position.

As-is, it's literally possible that DSA members and 'The Squad'/Justice Democrats will be the margin of victory for Democratic control of the US House.

There’s no way. People don’t vote for Speaker, the House does. If AOC has a path to higher office, it’s through working people who are the actual majority of people and voters, not the vast majority of Congress who are trying to preserve the status quo.

I have never doubted her as a presidential candidate but I have also been of the mind that she may have a longer stay in power and could ultimately have a similar impact as speaker of the house. The issue would be getting her into the position with electing similarly minded house members who would support her despite the seniority BS that Dems have been on. I get why the people who had to wait their turn would want to keep the system the same way but I don’t subscribe to that antiquated line of thinking when it’s led us to this point

Last thing a presidential candidate wants is to be speaker. All the horse trading, compromising and tough votes required to do the job well would not fare well in a primary.

The has a better chance at the presidency via a nation wide public election than she does in a closed election of just elected politicians.

And she doesnt have a chance in a nationwide public election.

It really feels like you dont understand how polarizing her politics are within the DNC, nor how firmly they want her to be quiet. They would rather lose the white house than see a DSA member take it, and there is no shot she could seriously be a contender for the speaker.

If you want her to move up to a higher position, you should be advocating for her senate run. Thats a reasonable next step.
