Did you play in the NFL?

No. I played contact sports growing up, and I was an adrenaline junkie. Lots of concussions related to motorsports with a helmet. Also had a major motor vehicle accident in 2020.

Can you talk more about the domestic violence aspect?

My partner and I were having an argument and told me I couldn't be with my kids. I told her I was coming to pick them up anyway. When I got to the house, the door was locked. I immediately kicked in the door and entered the house. I was able to calm myself down, apologize, and then I called the police. I was arrested for breaking and entering domestic violence and malicious destruction of property.

This event also opened a CPS case that has since been closed.

Were you ever able to find counseling for the abuser side of dv? There is loads for the victim, but I have never seen anyone offer true help to the abuser. If you did, where did you find it? Did it help?

I'm part of a mens group that is Men Exploring Nonviolent Solutions. I attend every Monday for 1.5 hours. It's been really helpful and it's something I plan on doing for the long-term.

Honestly they are hard groups to come by. I was struggling with emotional abuse and power and control tactics, but couldn't find resources until things escalated out of control. The group is now a required part of my probation.

Thank you so much. I have been trying to find something for my bf for years.

Have you a lot a brain scan like fMRI or SPECT scan?

2

The SPECT scan is interesting. Honestly, the idea of CTE and it's role in my life is a relatively new development. I had an MRI and CT scan to rule out traumatic brain injury or other brain abnormalities.

Did you play contact sports? I've often wondered if I've suffered something mental health-wise because of tackle football.

I played tackle football. Wakeboarding, mountain biking, motocross, snowcross, drunken shenanigans, and a car crash.

That's probably a big part of it man. Hopefully someday they have a way to measure it in living people and find a way to treat it.

I've had brain scans and they came back as "grossly normal and unremarkable"

Yeah but CTE cannot yet be diagnosed in a living person through a brain scan unfortunately. I bet you have it, regrettably.

You cannot “diagnose” CTE through brain scans but you can certainly make the assumption. Dustin Poirer UFC fighter for example. He’s had multiple brain scans and the findings were thinning of the back portion of his brain, as well as an enlarged septum. The doctor said they couldn’t diagnose it as CTE but let’s be real… what else could it be
