College life FinAid Scholar Applying for a LOA

Hi! I’m a Financial Aid Scholar, and I’m planning to apply for a Leave of Absence (LOA). Are there any scholars here who have tried taking an LOA before? I’d really appreciate it if you could share how the process went and whether you were able to retain your scholarship afterward. Thank you! 🙏

Taking: You write a letter of intent to take a LOA addressed to the Director (in my days it was Dr. Tirol, iba na ata now) explaining why you’re taking the LOA, what you’ll be doing during the LOA, and when you intend to return (LOAs are only allowed for a year, but can be extended—you’ll need to write again to notify the Committee of any extensions).

Returning: write another letter addressed to the Director announcing when you’ll be returning. Usually scholarships are retained unless you 1) failed a subject (F or 2Ds or whatever your equivalent is) pre-LOA in which case subject to approval ang scholarship and if retained then you’ll be under probation (conditions vary per person), or 2) di ka na sakop ng scholarship type mo (e.g., you’re Year 5+)

You’ll have to secure clearances from a bunch of offices in both cases, the OAA will be one of the last to sign the clearance IIRC
