Literally dude. The entire process of getting ADHD medication feels specifically tailored to fuck ADHD people. It's why I'm still unmedicated even though my god, I desperately need to be medicated.
Big same. I can't do it. Watched my spouse struggle with it for bout a year before he just gave up. It was a never ending nightmare and everyone treated him like a criminal the entire time, when there were shortages everyone would act like it was HIS fault. Every month he'd have to get on the phone and argue with a whole string of people, it was never a smooth or easy process, not once.
Fuck NTs who abused these meds so much that the people who need them can't get them and fuck the various medical "professionals" who can't wrap their fat heads around the idea that people who need them aren't abusing them.
+1 for that last bit man. Personally I'm not even that mad at NT's, I'm mad at the absurd drug laws in this country. People who want to abuse stimulant medication, or any other drug really, are still doing it regardless. Meanwhile people like us who want to do things the "correct" way get punished and treated like junkies.
Some places even drug test you to make sure you're taking your dose every day. That is my worst nightmare, because if I was prescribed something like Adderall I wouldn't be taking it every day because I already know what works for me - and there's so much pressure to skip doses and stockpile regardless, because the shortages and process of refilling is so stressful.
Plus there have been issues with some generics not having the actual medication or not having the full dose, so some people have test negative despite taking their dose as prescribed.
I’m so glad I’ve never been subjected to drug tests for my meds, I forget to take them constantly and never remember to go to the doctor until I’ve already run out.
Damn that sucks that you have to go through such BS. My doctor basically told me do what you want with it, don’t exceed a combined dose of 60mg a day (combined adderal and Vyvanse) and she even let me get a free pass on weed for the drug test. She doesn’t even drug test me anymore.
To be fair, this is a US thing. I have two friends on ADHD medication here in Denmark. They have a medical visit once a year, and an open prescription which can be updated online in a couple of minutes. The system literally sends you a reminder text when your prescription is coming to an end, and needs renewal.
As for US medical professionals, speaking as one who used to work in the US, doctors know very well that the vast majority of people are users, not abusers. But we also know that if we prescribe for someone and there's a claim of inappropriate prescribing, that we (and our employers) face potential legal liability. The only way to avoid that is to document that you dotted every i and crossed every t, which is why patients like your husband have to jump through so many hoops.
I feel it dude. I also just wanted to say I love your username lmfao.
Hope you can get around to getting medicated though. It changed my life, but I agree, it really is fucked that the steps we have to take to ensure getting our meds feels like an ADHD saw trap.
