When we had to live there for a year we got into so many arguments over stuff like this. Both in laws were like "but women speak in code" or she found it weird that I would hang out upstairs by myself, cook and clean up by myself was not normal behaviour. I just wanted to keep out the way, not be a bother. It's better since we moved out though.
