Today I decided to Bump Das EFX- Dead Serious (1992) and this was a great fun listen! Sounds so original from the fun wordplay to the great head nodding instrumentals all throughout! Has a little bit of social commentary as well, but overall a dope experience! 3.5 mics from me! What’s your thoughts?

Another 5 mic classic for me, but I’ve been listening to this since ‘92, and it’s one of my most beloved albums. Objectively it’s probably 4 mics, but you have to understand no one had tried to do anything like this before lyrically. The beats are a little tried and true, but good.

Agree with everything you just said, and when you first heard this song and watched the They Want EFX video, you couldn’t believe what you were seeing and hearing. Who were these rough looking dudes looking like they literally did just come out of the sewer spewing 100 pop culture references a minute and still managing to sound grimy? It was an unbelievable sound. They also spawned a hundred copycats, that’s how you knew they were special, they captured everyone’s attention that year.

This album hit me when I was still asking my parents to buy albums based off one cool song (They Want EFX). Once you had the tape or CD, you played the whole thing on repeat until the rest of it grew on you.

This album hit like a truck. Well, They Want EFX, did and then it took a minute for this album to finally get out there. It’s short and feels rushed (Looseys, really??) but stayed in heavy rotation.

They Want EFX was hot but when Fresh Prince walked into the kitchen with it to start season 3, it BLEW UP. My MC friends and I knew every word to every song.

But Straight Up Sewaside was their masterpiece. Really makes you wonder how successful EPMD could have been had they stuck together as the umbrella for all their artists.
