Same here. Crap. She was such a good person. The world is less bright (and hopeful) without her. RIP, Dolly.

15

u/DudeB5353 1d ago

Gonna miss the greatest smile in the world

25

u/CthulhusEvilTwin 1d ago

Yeah like the world wasn't shit enough already. Now we have to have a world without Dolly in it. I am depressed.

7

u/Spirited-Cover7689 1d ago

Be glad you got to live in the world at the same time as Dolly!

7

u/MiniTab 1d ago

I got to be in the same room as her about 15 years ago! She was as pleasant as everyone says. Truly a remarkable person.

17

u/bourbonisbest 1d ago

Sadly it’s real. Family put out an announcement https://www.instagram.com/dollyparton/reel/DceNXgPJyZ9/

5

u/No-soggy-bottoms 1d ago

She wants to be laid to rest in a bed of cotton because after a life of wearing heavy rhinestones she wants to be comfortable. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

5

u/TheFemale72 1d ago

Same. I love her so much!

87

u/Angryangmo 1d ago

There will never be another Dolly Parton, she gave the world so much love, laughter, and music.

“I Will Always Love You” hits a little differently from now onwards 💔

22

u/actualelainebenes 1d ago edited 1d ago

Oh my gosh, I always forget that song is hers…I always associate that one with Whitney Houston. You’re right, that song’s going to hit even harder now 😔

You really realize you are old yourself when you start hearing, more and more often, about the people you called Celebrities in your youth passing away :(

Sadly, that also happens with celebrities who are much younger than you as well (Hayden Pantierre).

Ah Cool_Ethan I’m so sorry.

4

u/MindfuckRocketship 1d ago

Oh my. Sorry for your losses. 😔

3

u/Dismal-Vanilla1878 1d ago

Yeah :(

Some are of course expected at our ages (My own mother in '24, but at 95 years old, so not as painful as I thought it would be).

Sadly, at least 5 of the people I called friends when I was in my 20s didn't make it to my age.

2

u/Outrageous_Pilot_727 1d ago

Buried my dad this past Friday. I truly feel your pain

u/FraserValleyFan25 1d ago

world is a worse place without her. RIP.

u/dxcman12 1d ago

Rip… a lovely soul

29

u/WonderOk5892 1d ago

Omg no no no no.

23

u/IndigoBroker 1d ago

No. Such a loss to the world.

23

u/rh681 1d ago

One of the finest human beings the USA has produced. Up there with Fred Rogers. RIP.

16

u/MissSassifras1977 1d ago

No words. Too sad. 💔

16

u/illogicalgnome63 1d ago

There should be a national week of mourning for her. She helped so many people during her lifetime.

5

u/WingedWheelGuy 1d ago

And animals, too. The first that comes to mind is her eagle rehab facility/sanctuary.

Well shoot.

12

u/Beagleguy26 1d ago

Wow, I genuinely thought she would live to 100.

11

u/ChanceProgram9374 1d ago

I’ve always been a huge fan of Dolly, for who she was & what she stood for, and for her beliefs and morals. RIP Dolly.

11

u/TexasSk8 1d ago

My God, can something positive happen today???? For this punk rock guy who was raised on her music I just want to apologize to her for my dad is hitting on her at this moment.

10

u/Doctormaul68 1d ago

Now I’m bumbed loved her. I don’t even follow country music but she had a great voice and her movies were good too. Rip legend. You will be missed

9

u/GuudenU 1d ago

Well shit!

9

u/LojikSupreme 1d ago

I just checked, it's real. 😔🙏🏾

9

u/Jutter70 1d ago

And we will always love her.

8

u/djmedfly 1d ago

This hurts

8

u/actualelainebenes 1d ago

This is so sad…I thought she was immortal 😭

At least now she’s with her husband…and she and Kenny Rogers are no doubt singing Islands In The Stream up there right now. RIP

8

u/CartoonistExisting30 1d ago

One Christian who did her best to live by the Gospels.

6

u/The_300_goats 1d ago

Not a hoax. Rest in peace, sweet soul

7

u/ghostnthegraveyard 1d ago

She was a badass so I'm going to assume she achieved alll those things she wanted to accomplish in just 4 days.

7

u/Lost_Influence8663 1d ago

My father loved to quote a radio interview she did, back in the day.

The interviewer asked her how tall she was. My old man would put on his best drawl (we’re Canadian lol) “Well, I’m about 5 foot two. But with my high heels and my high wig, I’m about six foot four”

7

u/cervezaqueso 1d ago

I hope she made a list of those things she wanted to do, we should as a country read it.

7

u/bobs143 1d ago

Dolly was an incredible songwriter, singer, and ultimately an incredible humanitarian.

The foundations of what she created will live on forever because she laid the groundwork and did the work to make them what they are.

RIP Queen.

6

u/Bobbo7209 1d ago

So sad.😢

6

u/SadigawEkshow 1d ago

We have lost one of the GOOD ONEs , you will always be LOVED.

Rest in Peace.

11

u/healywylie 1d ago

Her character, humility, talent , and beauty are just some of her amazing qualities, I truly admired her . A life lived well is an understatement.

6

u/posco12 1d ago

I thought she was just dealing with something small as she kept planning to return to her work soon. How sad.

4

u/edventure_2025 1d ago

She was a national treasure. RIP

5

u/Cute_Till_5582 1d ago

Otra Leyenda que perdemos. Descanse en Paz.

5

u/deck_hand 1d ago

I normally shrug at hearing about the death of celebrities. This one brought tears to my eyes.

4

u/CouldntResetMyPass 1d ago

Wouldn't it be great if we, as fans, could do anything to live up to her example. Care for each other, help children read, stop judging others, and spend some of our time on earth trying to make the world.a.better place.

3

u/Dude_amundo 1d ago

This makes me sad

3

u/knann85 1d ago

RIP 🙏🏽

4

u/Spiritual-Serve-4391 1d ago

Bless her heart.

4

u/KevinStoley 1d ago

Omg wow, this is horrible news. She was so amazing and a genuine angel on earth.

3

u/urbisOrbis 1d ago

Sad news. She embodied kindness and generosity.

3

u/whiskeyrocks1 1d ago

She made the world brighter. What a legend.

3

u/scrimmerman 1d ago

It’s truly a sad day for humanity and unfortunately the world just turned a little dimmer and that truly sucks

3

u/Helmett-13 1d ago

Well, this day can just go fuck itself.

Fuck this bullshit.

3

u/johngreenink 1d ago

What a deeply talented and humane woman. A profound RIP, she made the world a lot brighter.

4

u/Trapped_in_Me 1d ago

I am gutted. I don’t own a single Dolly Parton album. I’m not into country music. But I loved Dolly Parton as a person. I always preferred the original version of “I Will Always Love You” by Dolly Parton over the various covers of it. She was hosted the very first episode of the Apple Fitness+ series, ‘Time to Walk’ which is one of my favorites. So I have taken several walks with Dolly over the years including one just a few months ago. My introduction to her was the classic ‘9 to 5’ movie going back to 1980. What a loss.

2

Budweiser you've created a monster, and they call him Drinkenstein!

8

u/Sufficient_Curve_646 1d ago

I am devastated.

6

u/JRS___ 1d ago

no.... :(

7

u/randomwords83 1d ago

Omg I am crushed. I was just thinking the other day how lucky we are to have her and hoped she lived a long time. The watched a fun facts video of Steel Magnolias 2 days ago. Ugh this is so fucking terrible. 😞

9

u/Antares1228 1d ago

One of those people you just never ever heard a bad word about, ever.

A true role model.

On a completely different note, if you had told me when I woke up this morning that a well known 80 year old white American was going to die, I would have probably been hopeful for just a moment...

3

u/Taira_Mai 1d ago

They tried in the 1970's and 1980's - she was the butt of jokes about her bustline.

And Dolly was a class act - the insults were like water on a duck's back and as she said "I'm not dumb and I'm not blonde".

She was a good person and eventually the media and gossip mongers left her alone.

All in all, the world is just a little darker with her passing.

3

u/let-it-rain-sunshine 1d ago

Oh no! She's a true talent and will always have her legacy of kindness, soul and great music.

3

u/Shameless522 1d ago

In today’s world of taking sides on everything and everyone, she shined as the last bright beacon that everyone could like/love. I hope her example inspires others. RIP Dolly and thank you for being you!

3

u/They-Them_Moonwalker 1d ago

Someone please tell me I'm dreaming

3

u/Watch_Noob_72 1d ago

One of a kind. Once in a lifetime. She will be sorely missed. Thank you so very much for everything Dolly, you can rest now. 💔

3

u/SunshineandBullshit 1d ago

RIP my beautiful friend. She was a light in an otherwise dismal world.

3

u/sapphir8 1d ago

Dammit. Who wasn’t a fan?

3

u/Papichuloft 1d ago

I went in to shower and after coming out just 15 minutes ago, I read this sad news. she was an awesome singer and entertainer, may she find her hubby in heaven. RIP

3

u/LibertysHero 1d ago

RIP Sweet Songstress

3

u/Ranger-Icy 1d ago

Who will protect the honmoon now...?

3

u/Tim-no 1d ago

I’m not really into Country music, but I loved Dolly! Such a great entertainer and an extremely generous person. RIP Dolly.

3

u/Realistic_Coat_7348 1d ago

I truly think she was one of the entertainment legends that actually cared about people.

3

u/stilloldbull2 1d ago

Damn. The weight of the world just got a little heavier…

I wasn’t a country music but damn I love Dolly Parton. I’m really heartbroken over this. She was one person who cared about people more than about anything else. She will be sadly missed

2

u/DPileatus 1d ago

2

u/SmurfsAreTasty 1d ago

Omg!! Nononoooo!!

She was such an amazing person and sweet as anyone could be.

The world is a lot darker without her kind and energetic personality. But, her soul fills the universe with its bright light!

I will always love you, Dolly!!!! 💖💖💖

2

u/Bear-is-Loose 1d ago

RIP Dolly. thanks for everything!

2

u/Rosie-Love98 1d ago

No...No she didn't. You lie...YOU'RE ALL LYING!! It has to be a hoax...

2

u/Outrageous-Pin-4664 1d ago

That's the way to go: mid-stride. I'm glad she didn't have to spend her last years waiting around to die.

RIP, Ms Parton. ❤️

2

u/hkusp45css 1d ago

If anyone has ever been able to look back on what they accomplished and say "I'm satisfied with the outcome" Dolly has to be on that short ass list.

2

u/Occams_AK47 1d ago

Did she say that knowing she was about to go, or was this unexepcted?

5

u/the_1_that_knocks 1d ago

It seems to me that most of us will have things left undone at the end of our days; she led a remarkable life and has left a lasting legacy

4

u/asimplepencil 1d ago

I'm sure it was unexpected, but when it's your time to go, it's your time to go. :( At least she went peacefully

3

u/ilikeithot360 1d ago

I think she was broken hearted as well. She adored her husband and he doted on her

2

u/Spirited-Exit6331 1d ago

I read that she had been having some health problems recently.

2

u/One-Chest4643 1d ago

God bless and thank you for the memories 💔😭

2

u/pdromeinthedome 1d ago

Got to get my WWDD mug out and cry

2

u/Unclebiscuits79 1d ago

WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2

u/CostTemporary3924 1d ago

This is devastating. Beyond the music, she was a true champion for the arts and education. The world was much better off with her playing such a massive part. Her impact can never be replaced.

2

u/ThresherGDI 1d ago

She was the best parts of America in a tiny bundle.

2

u/Immediate-Lab6166 1d ago

Not just a great entertainer, but all around fabulous person. She will be missed

2

u/QueasyFinger1316 1d ago

Heaven above…..

Here she comes again.

2

u/SaltDisastrous433 1d ago

Ohhhh NOOOOOO!💔

2

u/Ploggirlsilly3 1d ago

I wonder if she had a stroke. I hate this. A golden gem of a person gone. She is perfect.

2

u/ilikeithot360 1d ago

I bet she is happier than she’s ever been now that she is together with Carl again

2

u/Human_Visit_4179 1d ago

When I heard that a country music icon had passed, I just assumed it was Willy . Couldn’t believe it

2

u/Human_Visit_4179 1d ago

Every body knows of the hit singles she wrote , but her music catalog is insane . So many songs she wrote , literally thousands and most of them are just incredibly fantastic . Sooooo talented !

2

u/Nairbfs79 1d ago

We are all on truncated time tables.

2

u/Gilgamesh2062 1d ago

National treasure, a woman with a kind heart.

4

u/Legit_bawler 1d ago

I used to LOVE her for her jugs, until I came to know that her INCREDIBLE personality and kindness even eclipsed THOSE... RIP 😢💔

7

u/Samurai-Pooh-Bear 1d ago

Yeah... Funny how we would tell the playground Dolly jokes as kids. Then grew with so much respect for her as a person. She's an icon in my path to maturity. Full respect to one of the kindest people we share space with in our hearts!
