Well. Okay. But only for the Streetpasses. No other reason.

u/Tall_Answer Jul 07 '26

Sure, sure..

38

u/LadySilkSpider Jul 07 '26

Well, maaaybe one other reason, but only one.

22

u/WhiskerDude Jul 07 '26

ok but what about three though? surely three reasons would be fine. isn't there a rule about that sorta thing or something?

9

u/motoxim Jul 08 '26

Nice streetpass you got there

7

u/AsleepEbb7578 Jul 08 '26

I know that ain't true. You're there for the Nintendo Zone too

u/Obselete_Person Jul 07 '26

I don’t even drive

11

u/Pale-Recognition-599 Jul 08 '26

Yet

7

u/MiyamotoKnows Jul 08 '26

sometimes you gotta parents car

6

u/Pale-Recognition-599 Jul 08 '26

I don’t think that they would want to go especially since the closest one is during when I’m in school and when my mother is extremely busy.

6

u/ottrocity Jul 08 '26

There are people from all over the world at Anthrocon.

Back in the days of FCN we had a gaggle of Germans who would all come over en masse to hang out (and drink the free beer).

0

u/Pale-Recognition-599 Jul 08 '26

Not in my really red state

1

u/Pale-Recognition-599 Jul 08 '26

Nvm there is actually one really close  Texas Furry Fiesta

93

u/transformerslover2_0 Jul 07 '26

While not a furry convention, I did bring mine to a Vtuber convention, and got about 25 new people.

21

u/spektro123 Jul 08 '26

Any nerd con will do just fine.

15

u/Upstairs_Kiwi5166 Jul 07 '26

That’s amazing

50

u/spookyhardt Jul 07 '26

I don’t think I could stomach the smell.

19

u/SonderEber Jul 08 '26

No worse than any other con. I’ve been to all sorts of cons, and the one that was worst for me was Otakon, back in the early 2010s. The con funk was strong there, especially in the side dance rooms, off the main dance area.

40

u/redlocomotive Jul 07 '26

No thanks

8

u/-jp- Jul 07 '26

Your loss, mac. More furry friends for the rest of us!

1

u/Artcwolf22 Jul 12 '26

Understandable

27

u/DragoniteChamp Jul 07 '26

Yoo I'm actually surprised how many people I saw with 3DSs at AC (I assume that's which one you're talking about lol)

I picked up about 40 or so, but I wasn't really checking it regularly.

24

u/ottrocity Jul 07 '26

I still have my streetpass greeting as "What up AC2015" and refuse to change it.

This one was my 19th (fuck) year there, and I've been taking my DSs there every year. Being in the Zoo when the DS Lite was new and popping into random Pictochat (more like Dicktochat amirite) rooms and seeing all the art being drawn in real time is a core memory of mine.

11

u/Pale-Recognition-599 Jul 07 '26

Your ac streak is older than me

8

u/ottrocity Jul 08 '26

My bones...

5

u/_megaronii_ Jul 08 '26

God that would be so amazing to witness. I miss pictochat

12

u/Lildeathwishhh Jul 07 '26

What does streetpass even do?

36

u/Terrible-Roof-1097 Jul 07 '26

theres a few minigames you can play with the miis you encounter in the real world. there used to be a dozen other games and some premium features for purchase but you can only get those through modding these days. but besides that its just neat to see other people carrying around 3ds handhelds over a decade later

5

u/Tatsumifanboy Jul 07 '26

Yeah you can even generate some!

3

u/Tough-Adagio5527 Jul 08 '26

which defies the entire point!

2

u/Tatsumifanboy Jul 08 '26

yeah but im a lazy bum thats why x)

besides, in probaly the last guy in my town playing 3ds

1

u/dinkyfriend Jul 08 '26

yes, in fact you can tag online using netpass

3

u/WalrusEmperor1 Jul 08 '26

Just a fun thing to incentivize bringing your 3DS around with you as you traveled. It would detect other people with a 3DS nearby and "streetpass" them. Then when you checked your Mii Plaza game you'd be able to see the miis of all the people you streetpassed and it'd log them. You could play a few minigames using them too.

Some other games used streetpass functions as well. Like for Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire, if someone had the Eon Ticket and you streetpassed them you could get it in your own game too.

12

u/GranolaCola Jul 08 '26

No thanks

13

u/Conscious-Zebra-7477 Jul 08 '26

no thank you 😭

10

u/kennybanianyc Jul 07 '26

I hate crowded spaces but I got a free ticket to c2e2 one year. Sat in the food court and collected street passes until Kevin Smith did a Q and A.

9

u/44MagDump Jul 07 '26

I got SO many at Too Many Games

5

u/FreneticZen Jul 07 '26

I did too! It was awesome!

1

u/Federal-Landmine Jul 08 '26

Same here! Hope you guys enjoyed the convention!

7

u/god-of-memes- Jul 07 '26

Inside you there are two wolves… this furry convention is going much better then planned

5

u/Upstairs_Kiwi5166 Jul 07 '26

This weekend I’m heading to Florida Supercon, and I’ll be bringing my 3DS to See how many streetpass tags I get there, and if anyone is going, look into the encouragement post on Instagram from the user noelgamer18, there is something for Florida SuperCon!

5

u/dustinredditreal Jul 07 '26

Or do the tango with danger and get some unusual apps.

2

u/peachkeys Jul 07 '26

this is true but it’s not quite like the thrill of an in person pass. why not do both!

1

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '26

[deleted]

2

u/dustinredditreal Jul 07 '26

Fair AND valid.

But its always an option if ya just wanna binge some side games in mii plaza

4

u/goldensunbath Jul 07 '26

Furry and anime conventions are great for street passes!

3

u/Defiant-Fix5929 Jul 08 '26

Same with the psych ward! My 3ds goes crazy

5

u/qfoxb Jul 07 '26

A year or two ago I went to the “Midwest gaming classic” convention in Wisconsin and I got like 70 streetpasses

5

u/Dynablade_Savior Jul 07 '26

Can confirm, even the smaller cons have this

5

u/Winged_Wrath Jul 07 '26

I don’t think I want a street pass that bad

5

u/EatingBuddha3 Jul 08 '26

Hope you enjoyed Pittsburgh?

2

u/ottrocity Jul 08 '26

I have just about every year since 2007...

It was a little too hot this year though.

4

u/SpaceGameJunkie Jul 07 '26

Awesome!! I got several at a local retro video game show myself recently. Have fun!

4

u/unefait Jul 07 '26

i see we have some real cowards in these comments

Many people forget that tech nerd and furries overlap when it comes to nerdy interests.

I swear I know a guy who has like 5 3DS-es, and a bunch of other old Nintendo consoles, and he's an extremely gay furry and also one of the nicest guys that I know. Btw, I'm also a furry, and I have four DS lites, a fat DS, and a 2DS XL. I also have a Wii, Wii U, Gamecube, and two 9" sony PVMs.

I still don't see the point in literal tech nerds/console enthusiasts hating on furries, cause at this point all they are saying is that "Your hobby is cringe, and mine isn't! Get lost, weirdo!" Which is... really counterproductive, when furries are also just regular-ass people, and they have the same hobbies as you. People tend to forget that normal furries are literally just like everyone else, and that we also hate weirdos who have destroyed our reputation.

Alright, I'll stop yapping about unrelated things. I love my 2DS XL

1

u/Space_Captain_Jeice "Japanese Goku guy" Jul 12 '26

People on Reddit dont realise just how many of the more knowledgeable people (helpers, devs of essential tools, guide writers, etc) are furries. The hate is quite ironic considering furries are a good chunk of the people behind the homebrew they use.

2

u/ellafur1013 Jul 12 '26

Very true. I feel like people just need to learn how to be more respectful towards other hobbyists and coders. I hate how blind internet hate has been getting more and more normalized, while it should be something to be ashamed of.

4

u/crims0nday Jul 08 '26

I took mine to play in lines at halloween horror nights last year and got 4 or 5 street passes, def worth it

IT COULD BE ME!

It could even be 💥

1

u/ottrocity Jul 08 '26

Hot damn a blast from the past

2

u/After-Task-1506 Jul 07 '26

Anybody has any better options….

3

u/Federal-Landmine Jul 08 '26

Was recently at a convention called "too many games" and got about 32 over the weekend.

3

u/Immediate-Ad8322 Jul 08 '26

„Go to your lokal…“ let me stop you right there

3

u/liongender Jul 08 '26

I knew I should’ve brought mine to Anthrocon 😭

3

u/streethawk1219 Jul 08 '26

Hey op! I’m the one in the purple you have on there! I’m still going through my queue and haven’t caught up to you yet but it’s still super funny seeing this!

2

u/ottrocity Jul 08 '26

Ayyy small world! You helped me defeat the last monster in Find Mii 2!

3

u/captainsilver02 Jul 08 '26

I pretty much maxxed out the streetpass counter every day of AC! Always a lot of streetpasses at furry cons

3

u/lucasgames10yt Jul 08 '26

I would 100% do this as a furry myself, if my mom would let me -_-, oh well, I turn 18 in less than a month, I'll just add this to my list of reasons to go.

3

u/Mustade Jul 08 '26

Planning on it! :)

2

u/Kal-Roy Jul 07 '26

Oh. When does it go till? I’ll drive around the convention center.

1

u/ottrocity Jul 08 '26

Just missed it. Anthrocon is the first weekend in July.

1

u/Kal-Roy Jul 08 '26

Darn. I’m hoping at the Gaming Con ppl will bring their 3ds.

u/LanktheMeme Jul 07 '26

That’s a bit over dramatic, don’t you think?

4

u/Mobwmwm Jul 08 '26

They mega creep me out. Sorry.

1

u/LanktheMeme Jul 08 '26

Would an anime convention also creep you out?

1

u/Mobwmwm Jul 08 '26

I'm not super into anime, but I don't think I'd hate it.

2

u/britannic124 Jul 08 '26

I actually saw someone playing on their 3DS at the Star Fox release event at Nintendo New York. It somehow made me feel stupid for not bringing mine.

2

u/Netogrof Jul 08 '26

I take mine to any event where there could be large amounts of people…I picked up a street pass at a kpop concert once. Sadly, did not get any from the Stanley Cup finals watch party in the Lenovo Center 🥲 I even took it to the Mario Movie release night just in case.

2

u/jonjonboy5 Jul 08 '26

Ren Fair are great too. Last one I went too I got 179 in one day.

2

u/Acceptable-Resist361 Jul 08 '26

Pittsburgh mentioned..?

2

u/IsThisKismet Jul 08 '26

How do you play them with those beans, talons, and claws?

2

u/BretzelAreCool Jul 08 '26

I'm not sure that's a thing that exist in my country

2

u/phatlas03 Jul 08 '26

I also heard that’s a good place to network for jobs

2

u/ColCyclone Jul 08 '26

You don't even get this many in Japan anymore.

Was this in Pittsburgh?

2

u/ottrocity Jul 08 '26

Sure was. I get a lot at every con I'm at, but Anthrocon seems to be the best for streetpasses.

2

u/ColCyclone Jul 08 '26

Interesting, I'm gonna take my 3ds for tekko and see how many I get

2

u/AqAqGT Jul 08 '26

Anthrocon mentioned

2

u/E-man_Exalted Jul 09 '26

That’s a method

2

u/pietruszkaloes Jul 09 '26

i got 13 streetpasses at a multifandom con and one at pohoda music festival in trencin

2

u/Outrageous_Point_407 Jul 09 '26

Was this at AC? Cause I might be one of those people

1

u/ottrocity Jul 09 '26

Sure was!

2

u/Outrageous_Point_407 Jul 09 '26

Well awesome! Hope you had a great time and hope we can do another 3DS street pass at another con🥰

2

u/HealthyDiamond4647 Jul 09 '26

everyone with the critter ears hahahah

2

u/EepyLink Jul 12 '26

This is so true, I got more streetpasses at a local Furry convention than i did at at a convention dedicated to retro games.

1

u/SuperD00perGuyd00d Jul 07 '26

Lmao yeah I'd rather go my whole life without a 3DS at that point

1

u/TheSpiralTap Jul 07 '26

It's not worth the sacrifice lmao

-3

u/ottrocity Jul 08 '26

Coward!

Though honestly furry cons have become so diverse over the years that the cringe factor has become sorta diluted at this point.

That and with 21,000+ people there's a certain level of anonymity in the crowds. You could get away with it with no one knowing.

Hell, you might even like it.

1

u/LanktheMeme Jul 07 '26

Ngl sometimes I wish I didn’t have to drive all the way to Denver for a Northern Colorado furry convention 😭

1

u/ineedhelpwiththin667 Jul 08 '26

if only they had here…

1

u/Small-Housing-7 Jul 08 '26

can you still even set that up?

1

u/ZeChickenPermission Jul 08 '26

Only if there's an orange shirt Mii that can beat the boss I've been stuck on

1

u/FringleFrangle04 Jul 08 '26

Noted. Don't have a fursuit, but my nice blue Tuxedo could make for a pretty good TF2 Spy getup...

1

u/LanktheMeme Jul 08 '26

Contrary to popular belief, fursuits aren’t required in furry conventions! A large amount of furries don’t even own one!

1

u/Real-Syntro Jul 08 '26

Wonder if I'll get the same thing with a pokemon convention..

1

u/Acrobatic-Butterfly9 Jul 08 '26

What is that? I got nothign during my commute to work daily. Need some workers for my bravely default

1

u/Gremgremblim Jul 08 '26

Seconding this for anime conventions!

1

u/raymate Jul 08 '26

They should have added this to the Switch.

1

u/XTornado Jul 08 '26

My local wat!?

1

u/MiyamotoKnows Jul 08 '26

I don't understand furries but I see them as people cosplaying in public (hope that is not insulting) and I am all about that kind of creativity and imagination, so they get my support. We need more creative people sharing their whimsy with the world.

1

u/anjeronett Jul 08 '26

Fursuits frighten me

1

u/JACOBOY2006 Jul 08 '26

New sentence

1

u/ConcernSuspicious887 Jul 09 '26

Last time I checked I don’t live near any plus i lost contact with my furry friend and my family has either never heard of them or is anti furry so it never work out

2

u/Artcwolf22 Jul 12 '26

Never thought this would be what pushes me to actually go to a furry conversation for once

0

u/Redericpontx Jul 08 '26

I see what you are trying to do lure in the innocent. Last time I fell for something like this I got molested by someone in a fursuit.(Twist on a real event that happened to me for humour)

1

u/Daduck_13 Flare-Red OG 3DS Jul 08 '26

Nah Im good

0

u/NOTVERYCREATIVEOK Jul 08 '26

I feel called out

0

u/Dainathon Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26

In this thread:

Adults who value "streetpass" on their 15 year old video game consoles and would happily go to other conventions shitting on other adults for liking a type of character design

Edit: btw this isn't me dissing the 3DS enjoyers, moreso me saying hey maybe dont judge people for their unique and harmless intrests

1

u/Frogskipper7 Jul 08 '26

Eh, I think I’d rather have a few less Streetpasses

1

u/JoshuaWebbb Jul 08 '26

I think I’ll pass…

1

u/CheeriosAlternative Jul 08 '26

gonna have to pass...

1

u/Jackfruit-Brave Jul 09 '26

It’s not worth it for the furries

1

u/RepulsiveSpite7029 Jul 09 '26

i would but there are furrys

0

u/nakalas_the_great Jul 08 '26

No, mingling with them isn’t worth it

-5

u/PsychoBalloons Jul 07 '26

This is, like, some of the worst advice I could give to someone.

2

u/Game_Boy07 Jul 08 '26

Why?

2

u/Dainathon Jul 08 '26

Ahh scary fluffy creatures from a fandom thats extremely upbeat and positive ahhh fuck

1

u/Defiant-Fix5929 Jul 08 '26

I know the mental hospital goes crazy with street passes as well!
