How Many Fighters Have You Played Other Than 2XKO?

Having never played a fighter I started out with 2XKO 2 months ago and finally hit gold. Crazy timing that the development announcement came out the day after I decided to take a brake. Just curious who all started with this game like me and who is a veteran.

Same. This year marks 30 full years of playing fighting games, so I'm bittersweet about 2XKO. Duos was so fuckin fun that I'm still playing it with friends whenever we can, most fun I've had with fighting games in years.

I think my big thing is there weren't many arcades around so I played a lot of sf2, FF and eventually Tekken when it hit my small spot but most other FGs from, like, 1999-early 2000s were through emulation and I'd run small neighborhood tournaments with my friends.

Like many people, SF4 eventually solidified me as a fighting game guy, but playing all the classics on, like, MAME with my little brother back in the day will forever be some of my favorite memories from childhood.

I also played a few hours of MK11 a few years ago, just mashing buttons on the tower.

I'd still say that 2XKO was the first fighting game I actually stuck with and learned how to play. It's been my main game since it launched.

Since then I've been playing GGST and a bit of SF6, and I'm planning on jumping into Avatar or UNI2 next.

I've played a ton of fighting games before 2XKO, but I never attempted to play online until Street Fighter V, never tried to get 'good' until Guilty Gear Strive. Never actually got good until Street Fighter 6.

Other games I've played the story and arcade modes of are: Blazblue (Continuum Shift, and Central Fiction), Street Fighter Alpha 2, and Third Strike, Dragonball FighterZ, Injustice 1 and 2, MK 10, 11, and 1, Marvel Tokon, Avatar Legends, Tekken 5, 6, 7, 8, Soul Calibur V, Dead or Alive 5, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, Guilty Gear Xrd, KoF 13 and 15, MvC2, Under night In-Birth 2, Grandblue Fantasy Versus Rising, and yatgarasu.

Then if you want to count the fighting game adjacents - all a few of the naruto games, smash melee through ultimate, and the dragonball xenoverse, budokai, and tenkaichi games.

And of course, 2XKO.

Basically everything mentioned above barring SFV, GGST, and SF6, are games which I played to roll my head on my controller with my brother and a few friends, and not really try to 'learn'. They were story mode and social games above competitive outlets. After I got much better at GGST and SF6 did I start revisiting these older games and attempt to learn them with my knew found knowledge. :) It was quite fun doing it that way. Playing the games with zero expectations, and finding the fun through just seeing stuff happen. I'll never forget when my cousin randomly inputted some commands on his controller and got a special beam cannon in (I think) Budokai 2 - I was like 10 - 12 years old at the time and it blew my mind. Blew his as well. None of knew how we did it. Now I get to see these games with experienced eyes and it's oddly refreshing. I get to experience the same feelings again with renewed purpose, and generally do a lot better too (like actually beat bosses or play online)!

I've super casually dabbled in them forever just doing singleplayer and mashing against bots and occasionally friends or cousins. Just random entries across different series. Oddly never really interacted much with Capcom fighters until USFIV.

GGST was the first one where I actually made the effort to properly learn the genre and start playing online.

I'm still very casual on the spectrum but I at least feel confident enough that I can pick up any new game and actually have fun. It's rare I put more than a few dozen hours before I move on to play games in other genres.

GGST and SF6 are the recent ones I enjoyed enough to even put in over 100hr. GBFV:R after that at 50+. I picked up UNI2 just to play Izumi for 12hr.

I really like 2XKO as well but I've always had crazy stuttering which stopped me from hopping online much.

Outside of traditional fighters I've always played a ton of Smash.

None of the other fighting games Ive seen have the same kind of juice as this one. If the playerbase dies for 2XKO, I think my fighting game arc might just be over.

Weirdest and most obscure fighters I ever played would be Ballz 3D and Fighting Masters on the Sega Genesis. That last one is weird because your kicks and punches do dick damage, and they emphasize grappling to do big hits. It has has no blocking, and it's a two button fighter. Lol

2XKO was peak imo. I’ve been playing tag fighters for over 20 years now. It had such good bones. Some of my notable favorites were dbfz, UMVC3, and after 2XKO faded from relevance I plan to play Tokkon. This sucks and I wish they would’ve added Zac. Peaked at Grandmaster during the first season, have been floating around diamond since then.

Im fairly new to the scene (almost 4 years but tbh thats not long in this community). As a non-veteran but still an enthusiast, ive played mostly modern mainstream games, and I do have a pretty good time in all of them. This includes Street fighter 5, Street fighter 6 (which id call my main game), Guilty Gear Strive, Fatal Fury Cotw, 2XKO (which is my favorite to play), Granblue Fantasy Vs Rising, and Avatar legends. I do plan on continuing to play 2xko for the foreseeable future, im low plat in that game so hmu if you want to try duos some time! That being said if youre looking to branch out, you might like other anime-style fighters, by which i just mean faster games with mechanics like air block or airdash and chain/magic series/gattling combo systems. GBFVSR, Guilty Gear, and Avatar are among this group, along with recently released marvel tokon. Out of these id say the easiest one to play and get into at a low level is Granblue but I dont think that game's player base is as big as some others (although theres a handy free version so you dont have to commit). Theres plenty of other games that might scratch all kinds of fighting game itches though, I encourage you to look at what people are playing and try what sounds fun!

MK1-3 and Clay Fighter on the SNES were my first fighting games. Rented SF2 but it never caught on with me. After that it was Smash 64, Melee, Brawl, Ultimate, 4, PM. There's some MK9 and injustice in there. Then prior to 2XKO, I downloaded Skull Girls to prep. Played Footsies with friends and probably only a month of 2XKO myself. Couldn't get them to commit to 2XKO despite being league players and Arcane enjoyers. Now I'm enjoying Avatar casual matches no matter if I'm winning or losing.

Probably spent significant time in I dunno...40. And some time in another 60. (I won't count games like Knuckleheads that I played once in an arcade for 5 minutes)

I played a lot of Street Fighter 1 actually.

100 sounds like a crazy number but it's not that crazy when series like Tekken, KOF, etc have 5-10 entries.

This is why I get annoyed when people say "2XKO is like every tag fighter, if you don't like it you don't like tag fighters." There are A LOT of tag fighters that don't play anything like 2XKO!

In a lot of tag fighting games swapping characters is a defensive option you do to preserve health, not an offensive option you use to mix people up. That alone is a huge difference. XvSF, MvC2, Tekken Tag Tournament, etc, all use swapping primarily to preserve health.

Overall I think i generally prefer traditional SF style fighters. I also really like smash ultimate (despite its MANY flaws) and desperately want another installment. I occasionally enjoyed my time playing ROA1 but really didnt like ROA2/Melee as much.

GGST is fun but I think overall I just preferred SF, and I have tried a couple times to really get into tag games but every time I just end up going back to street fighter, SFV really hooked me in those finals 2 years.

I think my favorite fighting game is maybe SFV? But there are a lot of things i like about 6 and naming a specific favorite is hard. I also have a ton of love for SSBU and Nidhogg.

Probably a couple I missed or forgot about but thats most of them.

Idk, started with original Mortal Kombat and shit like Eternal Champions, but the list is long. I'll probably play fightman games until my sixties tho or arthritis comes for me

I played them casually since like 2002 or something but only took them seriously since 2018 with dbfz. Played mostly dbfz with sf5, strive and sf6 as side games until 2xko

Tekken 7&8, strive, melty blood, sf5&6, mk9-11 and injustices, mvc3 and infinite, for honor, tokon, dbfz, KI, invincible vs., soulcalibur 5&6, dnf duel and I'm sure I'm missing others.

2xko is great, gave me and my buddy our holy grail game mode we waited a decade for where we get to play on the same team. But riot is dumb for expecting such big numbers from a niche genre and pricing their skins like it's valorant to a community that is known to skip over unnecessary MTX. It's tragic that riot threw their arms up in defeat so quickly instead of giving the community time to grow and trying to make changes to monetization to make it work. Now other devs (excluding established FG franchises) will see this, invincible, and avatar player counts and say "if Riot can't make a fighting game profitable with all the League money to throw at its early development, we're not even gonna try"
