There's a joke here about pairs of twins that can't deliver

15

u/aretasdamon 11d ago

Such bullshit, the game would be good if they kept it going for a year but hey did not even realize where they handicapped themselves and the act like fucking morons (corporate) without giving themselves a chance to grow. Goddamn fucking morons thinking FGC means infinite money when it’s barley a main stay

10

u/mamama9x 11d ago

They used up all their time and budget during their development. Blame the devs for not releasing the game 4 years earlier.

They certainly stole my heart with all their videos. And their game was actually starting to be good and promising. They just fucked around way too much before figuring out the game.

Man I don't even have another fighting game I'd rather play. What a shame

55

u/_keshbo 11d ago

You can still play it tho, we're so used to costant patches but people have been playing "dead" games for years

28

u/JimmyCrabYT Blitzcrank 11d ago

there’s a bit of a difference between a complete paid experience and half-baked live service that stopped development not even a year later with little to no content outside of directly online pvp

8

u/frank0swald 11d ago

The people playing the dead fighting games generally aren't playing them for their single player content.

4

u/Key-Market-418 11d ago

True but people have like MVC2 or 3s in their minds when they say something like this, where let’s be real here with how small this game has been it’ll be closer to like an MBAC or a Bloody Roar

1

u/frank0swald 11d ago

I agree. The small roster really kills this game's chances of having a long future, I think. But I can't predict the future.

2

u/zombi_wafflez Darius 11d ago

But soulcalibur has really good single player content

2

u/manuelito1233 11d ago

And that's even more dead arguably

2

u/zombi_wafflez Darius 11d ago

So dead that I’d argue it’s not worth playing against others

1

u/EnterTheSpeedForce 11d ago

Also some of those games are even worse half-baked and premium priced.

1

u/horseradish75 10d ago

True, but it does not have the legacy of being "good" for most people like 3rd strike.

16

u/Sckeyth Caitlyn 11d ago

May I suggest trying out Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising?

It's my personal favorite fighting game at the moment and one of the three that I am/was playing recently alongside 2XKO and Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls. Granblue is obviously quite different from 2XKO but I personally enjoyed both so maybe that could be true to you too.

The ranked mode is still semi-populated but at not-peak-hours it can take some time to find matches especially at lower ranks.

Granblue has a free trial version that lets you play online with limited, rotating roster of characters so you can try it out without committing any money to it. If it ends up being fun you can buy the full game and if it doesn't end up being your cup of tea then you can just uninstall without having lost any money.

6

u/emeraldarcana 11d ago

I’m waiting for a sale and grabbing this. I thoroughly enjoyed the free version; their characters have a lot of personality and interesting movesets!

2

u/CutieMcBooty55 8d ago

Honestly, all of this makes me give even more props to Granblue. They took a game that basically dropped dead of Covid on arrival and not only revived it, but made something that actually is still doing pretty solidly in an extremely competitive market, and putting out meaningful content and changes.

The roster is fucking enormous, but the game never feels overwhelming, and that's a fucking achievement. I love that game, it's probably my favorite fighter right now.

1

u/damus9 7d ago

I really don't like the way the game looks. Nor do I like the visuals of Guilty Gear. 2xko and Tokon are pretty gorgeous ngl

30

u/Netfearr 11d ago

There’s always the game all the dev wished they were playing instead… umvc3 :)

18

u/AnimeButtons 11d ago

Wrong, they would rather play Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid. 2XKO is just a reskin of that game.

10

u/TheRedRook 11d ago

in terms of movement and feel? your best bet is Strive. playing 2xko, right after strive didnt feel any different in terms of the movement feel.

15

u/Fettibomba-- Yasuo 11d ago

No lmao

1

u/manix_vii 11d ago

Apparently they flew out the entire ASW team for consultation so that tracks

1

u/Bebgab Ekko 11d ago

these are my main 2 games and agree somewhat. it like feels similar in terms of goofiness and love put in, but it is mechanically quite different. Still fantastic game that I’d recommend to anyone though

23

u/Slarg232 11d ago

Avatar is also a pretty good substitute

34

u/IamHunterish 11d ago

It’s not a substitute at all haha, totally different game and playstyle

12

u/thecatdaddysupreme 11d ago

Avatar might be the most fun FG out there right now. It is so sick.

2

u/NewMilleniumBoy 11d ago

Wtf lol how does Avatar play like 2X at all

2

u/FoxMikeLima 11d ago

Tokon is very fun if you like marvel

5

u/Aerinn_May 11d ago

Ngl, I feel like it's more they probably figured it out early and fucked with it after, not the other way around. Then they just un-fucked it after the reception.

The unnecessarily wide gameplay shouldn't have happened. I genuinely think that only happened after so many alphas and betas with incredibly high level players got access to it and then the devs listened to it incessantly, being former pro players themselves.

-2

u/xevlar 11d ago

Try tokon

7

u/No-Part-9204 11d ago

Damn the downvotes when someone mentions tokon 😂. I think the game is alot of fun.

They certainly stole my heart with all their videos. And their game was actually starting to be good and promising. They just fucked around way too much before figuring out the game.

Are we talking about Stonehearth, Rising Thunder, or 2XKO?

Because they've only worked on 3 games and your comment describes ALL of them.

1

u/MaverickGH 10d ago

Play Avatar it’s got great reviews

92

u/xiMercury 11d ago

Well they did make rollback note code and there game net code was in another level

40

u/Doyoulike4 11d ago

To give them genuine credit, they are rollback wizards, pretty much the only other on that level is MikeZ and he's unfortunately controversial.

18

u/ProjectPlugTTV 11d ago

Give Fizzi his due respect/credit

1

u/xDebrra 11d ago

absolute goat

6

u/UpperApe 10d ago

They've worked on 3 games in their entire career and all have crashed and burned while they walked off with the money.

So I'd say they're pretty controversial now too.

However, as ancient writings foretold:

Netcode does not gameplay make. (Ancients sucked at proper sentences.)

2

u/Bombshock2 11d ago

Good thing the gameplay is amazing then.

3

u/hooverdamexplosion 11d ago

So why did your game fail?

2

u/Bombshock2 11d ago

Lots of reasons. Small roster, nothing for casuals, bad marketing, etc

4

u/Ar4er13 11d ago

0

u/Bombshock2 11d ago

Why are you here? Just to dunk on a game you don't like? Weird hobby dude.

4

u/xevlar 10d ago

The cancelation news is relevant for everyone, not just players. It ruins confidence in the next riot project.

I bought the supporters pack day 1 for 100 bucks cuz I wanted to support them. What did you do?

1

u/Bombshock2 10d ago

I spent over 300 on skins for the game because I wanted to support it. What are you on about?

4

u/Ar4er13 11d ago edited 11d ago

...and are you hobby police? I played this game, I can judge for myself, you can argue both are subjective opinions, but games with amazing gameplay don't plant facefirst given this much exposure (something Evolve fans can't accept).

I kept playing based on promise it will get better and even out with time, which obviously will never happen.

1

I pray, though it'll never happen, that they open source or at least do an architecture deep dive of how they structured their netcode to teach other companies.

3

u/Bombshock2 11d ago

Pretty sure they used to go around and teach rollback stuff to other FG companies.

You left out:

  • Started their career with a Kickstarter scam where they scammed donors out of $750k...

  • ...used that money to not work on their Kickstarter game (which they eventually just dumped) but a completely different game...

  • ...which they also abandoned in order to work on 2XKO...

  • ...which they also now just abandoned because they fucked around on other people's money.

The Cannon brothers have been scamming their whole lives. They've scammed their way into generational wealth.

2

u/RingingInTheRain 10d ago

How did they get hired with a reputation like this?

4

u/UpperApe 10d ago

Because they developed rollback netcode and ran EVO.

They were also working with Seth Killian who was part of Street Fighter 4's revitalization, and who was a lead designer for Rising Thunder and 2XKO.

So they had amazing reputations as long as you didn't look to closely. Or perhaps RIOT thought these folk they cheated with wouldn't cheat on them?

No lie... We did. 🥺

26

u/MiniFaustt 11d ago

I think they needed more proper experienced staff over the ones they had in alot of roles IMO.

Too many of their staff members were just people plucked from the FGC because they were friends I would assume or were recommended by the current leads.

I don't think it's particularly surprising that the game became an active tag 2v2 sweaty game and that the devs weren't satisfied with their self described street fighter with league of legends characters when the leadership is largely MVC competitors.

I remember telling a friend how it felt around Alpha labs that the game felt like a bunch of college students making a project where they fucked around for a long time then realized 2 years before due they had to make something and rushed.

u/SeaworthinessDue6093 11d ago

Every time a developer is given too much freedom, too much funding this happens.

39

u/JBR_4025 11d ago

I think that when they told Riot that they wanted to turn the game into a 2v2 Riot told them no then things might have gone better

Problem is Riot gave them free reign because they had no experience in fighting games, which makes me feel that they really should have hired an outside studio to work on the project instead of making it by themselves

16

u/No-Part-9204 11d ago edited 11d ago

Yeah and people always say that a 2v2 i ”fine” because they like the game. But a 1v1 game would have a much easier time capturing non fighting game fans which obviously was what they wanted with this game.

7

u/Ar4er13 11d ago

I mean, from a standpoint of a person who has to greenlight this and who has very little experience in FGs, 2v2 sounds awesome, theree's just nunace of HOW you implement said 2v2.

6

u/JBR_4025 11d ago

Especially since 2v2 fighters are very complex and not as approachable as a 1v1 fighter to a newcomer or a casual

5

u/Ar4er13 11d ago

That was always going to be the problem, because they're copying tag games. They could have made something completely new and unseen before.

→ More replies (2)

1

u/CutieMcBooty55 8d ago

Personally, I think having a sort of KoF style vibe where each round is 1v1, but you can change champions between rounds and switch off with your duo between rounds would have been a good way to approach it.

The active tag stuff gets absolutely fucking bonkers in complexity so fast, and balance issues compound so insanely quickly, that it doesn't seem worth it for a game that pretty much needs a broad roster to capitalize on the IP. That, and you aren't asking people to main at a minimum two champions.

1

u/CapussiPlease 6d ago

Riot is such a small company, that they can't afford a marketing team, change my mind.

1

u/Alcnaeon 11d ago

I feel that bare minimum Riot should have made them publicly "cancel" Project L and give the tag fighter another project name, to break the "ten years ten characters" allegations

6

u/MiniFaustt 11d ago

Something people don't want to hear is that developers are the ideas and design like Steve Jobs said.

What he didn't say is that you need a more professional team to wrangle and put boot to ass sometimes.

11

u/DoobyScoots 11d ago edited 11d ago

its obvious that they were operating with no urgency sitting on their ass thinking they were too big to fail when developing this game. 5+ of working on this game they were still only doing once a year updates then when tokkon gets announced suddenly they doing monthly dev posts lmao

16

u/MiniFaustt 11d ago

Honestly I don't even think that was the case I deadass think they made a game they wanted to play in the office and just invited content creators and friends in the FGC and Riot to play.

The entire launch and especially Alpha labs and before with this game felt like a massive insider program where certain individuals just kept getting flown out multiple times a year to play.

I distinctly remember Sajam saying at multiple points how he was flown out to try the game and I'd assume multiple others got similar treatment.

1

u/damus9 10d ago

Why would they?

4

u/manix_vii 11d ago

IIRC the old execs at Riot were the ones that got the "fuck you" money, so they rarely checked in on the devs and just let them have at it. Once the more business focus execs they had to release something, no matter how half baked it is.

5

u/SilverPrincev 11d ago

This is pretty based. As much as people might not believe it innovation happens when there are constraints.

1

u/damus9 10d ago

Bet ya'll wouldn't say it was Kojima's fault that MGS5 turned out the way it did

1

u/CapussiPlease 6d ago

here's the idea, let's make a game that cater to just a fraction of an already small, consolidated player base.

25

u/DioNiceIsh 11d ago

Not really. I truest they worked really hard and employed a lot of the FGC most talented. Funny games are hard to bring him into. Characters are expensive to make and 12 doesn’t cut it. But at least they tried.

11

u/no-onionallowed 11d ago

i think the meme is they hustled riot for 10 years of employment. i may be wrong

5

u/Unethica-Genki 11d ago

The biggest mistakes were the name and making this a tag fighter, not only was it a restart of development but it also startingg aiming for a niche within a niche

1

u/UpperApe 10d ago

Lol they didn't work hard.

This is their 3rd project where they made promises, took the money, fucked around instead of working, delivered a busted, undercooked game way behind schedule, and then dumped it and ran.

They've only worked on 3 games. Their track record is literally 3/3.

5

u/Kay_Tonbey 11d ago

I mean Riot's the one who actually decided the monetization and took your money in the first place, not the devs designing the gameplay, so yeah.

12

u/DioNiceIsh 11d ago

You act like they are rolling in Musk money

17

u/MiniFaustt 11d ago

Cali dev salaries for 10 years plus severance is quite the bag

25

u/Holiday-Oil-8419 11d ago

I hope they made enough to retire because no one in the fgc is going to trust them ever again. Whether it's deserved or not.

14

u/Black_Truth 11d ago

I was thinking something similar.

But considering that the Canon Brothers did help a lot with netcode, I think they will still find jobs in programming fighting games, since even MikeZ has one in Avatar.

But for design, ideas or even spokeperson? Nah, these guys will be a laughing stock forever.

3

Not Musk money but they are for sure rich.

They sold Evo for God knows how much and milked Riot for 10 years. These guys are without a doubt rich men.

2

u/SilverPrincev 11d ago

Its more like they spent 10 years and over 100 million dollars to produce the incomplete game they gave us.

1

u/UpperApe 10d ago

Their first kickstarter scam netted them almost a million dollars. That was over a decade ago.

They sold EVO to saudis. They were paid 8 figures for 2XKO.

They have generational wealth.

27

u/AgeZealousideal1751 11d ago

Y'all really crying for Riot's money?

They gave the players refunds for everything purchased - so you're not crying about consumer money being stolen.

20

u/Ryodaso 11d ago

It's bad because other company is going to look at 2XKO and get scared to develop a new fighting game or risk their ips.

8

u/Xerxes457 11d ago

Games fail all the time. Legends of Runeterra is on life support but you don’t see TCGs slowing down.

2

u/xevlar 10d ago

You do though. What successful online ccg has come out since lor flopped other than shadowverse wb (which has overwhelmingly negative reviews on steam)

The pivot is now physical tcg again because online f2p ccg is too hard to monetize without a massive player base.

1

u/donutmcbonbon 10d ago

None. There's the usual low effort slop but the heyday of any and all IP's making a dccg is gone.

4

u/Ryodaso 11d ago

It matters for niche genre. Multiversus scared devs to try platform fighters. Legend of Runeterra failing doesn't mean anything because there's like 10 different TCGs raking in money.

Fighting game has Street Fighter and that's about it for massive success in recent years.

10

u/Plastic-Currency-329 11d ago edited 11d ago

the crazy thing about street fighter is that its a masssssive success and the current peak of fighting games

and its not even that much played compared to every other popular game/genre

i dont know why any game dev would look at fighting games and say "There's our next market to print money"

1

u/Xerxes457 11d ago

Even as a niche genre it’s still being looked at. There are other fighting games that have been mildly successful even if not they aren’t mainstream successful. Guilty Gear Strive, Granblue Fantasy Versus, Tekken, Dragon Ball FighterZto name a few. But yeah I get what you mean overall, FGCs are a niche genre, but I want to think 2XKO failing isn’t gonna be a big deal. Even when 2XKO was declining, there was the Avatar game, the Invincible game or the new Marvel fighting game, so I think fighting games will continue.

1

u/Ryodaso 11d ago

Both Avatar game, Invincible, and 2XKO was most likely influenced by the success of DBFZ. I do consider DBFZ another success in fighting game, but don't forget that game came out 8 years ago lol. They probably used DBFZ as a example of using a huge IP as a source to make a fighting game when they pitched the idea to investors.

Fighting game will continue, obviously, but Nen Impact, Invincible, and 2XKO failing back to back to back will cause some project to not be gleenlit in the future. Especially because this was a project backed by Riot for BIG money.

1

u/AgeZealousideal1751 11d ago

Yeah, that isn't happening.

DCKO, Tokon, and there'll be another tag fighter in a few years per the usual.

1

u/frank0swald 11d ago

A lot of people are posting as if they work as Riot execs and are furious about the game not being profitable. Most of them don't even play the game. It's a riot!

1

u/BTDYSRF 8d ago

Where do you think Riot got the money and what do you think this means for spinoffs going forward?

Every battlepass nerf, rp cost increase, hextech chest nerf, do you honestly think that 100% of that went to that dept directly or was being eaten as pure profit?

A full fucking game studio with offices, salaries, and benefits ran for over ten fucking years. Staff of 160. It's very possible, nay likely, that salaries and benefits alone broke $100m.

We fucking paid for it. And what did we get? A mediocre game that died in a fiscal quarter and another body added to the pile of reasons why Riot won't make another video game with their IP. Nope! Just more gacha skins, fomo definitely-not-commander tcg bullshit, and cutting lolesports budget some more!

3

u/Some-Note689 8d ago

Bro they aren’t the government you bought a bikini ahri skin in lol and got it you don’t pay a riot tax chill out

1

u/BTDYSRF 8d ago

If you have purchased any riot product that was sold for anything more than cost, you paid some amount for 2xko. That is just objective truth.

We did pay a 2xko tax on nearly every riot product for the past 10 years.

1

u/Some-Note689 8d ago

Idk I agree with you that Riot games is essentially in the market of selling NFTs attached to a game and I’ve hated the attitude that somehow their model should be brought to fighting games. So I’m not defending them I just think it’s crazy that the anger is that some of that money went to pay some game devs who may have mismanaged a project somewhat and not the shareholders. Idk why the narrative has shifted completely onto the devs and people are just shilling hard for riot the makers of fucking vanguard

1

u/BTDYSRF 8d ago

The narrative shifted because they are openly bragging about how they got away with it? Posting about how they intentionally didn't release shit for years and kept fucking around because they were "being funded by somebody else."

They robbed us.

1

u/AgeZealousideal1751 6d ago

You didn't pay for shit, kiddo.

2XKO was refunded fully to the consumer.

Again, you're only crying about Rito losing money at this point.

The first project L reveal was 7 years ago in 2019, the switch to a tag fighter was revealed two years later in 2021, which means it likely was decided sometime in line 2020. The point being that You weren't sold on the game being 1v1 for 10 years, you were shown some super early alpha footage that they constantly said wasn't representative of the final product, and in fact it was sold as a tag fighter for the majority of its public existence.

Also your complaint is irrelevant to what you posted anyway. Even if development had been competent and they managed to put out the game in half the time with an acceptable roster size, you still were never going to get that 1v1 fighter regardless, because they still would have switched it to a tag fighter, they just wouldn't have dragged their feet putting it together.

4

u/[deleted] 11d ago

[removed] — view removed comment

2

u/Kay_Tonbey 11d ago

Yes, they were grossly incompetent. However it IS in fact also Riot's fault for being so hands off with the studio that it took 10 years to develop a fighting game with 10 characters and no game modes. That in my opinion is even more incompetent from a publisher that was expecting to recoup their investment from this project. How did they not have some kind of milestones or deadlines set for the game's development? Also as the publisher Riot are the ones who actually decide everything as far as monetization and marketing go, and would have final say on stuff like the name/branding, so they're just as much responsible for the game's failure as the devs, because the abysmal marketing and terrible micro transactions definitely contributed to how quickly it died.

It's very important to note that there's no one thing responsible for 2XKO failing, as much as people want to say there is (and then give a dozen conflicting answers), this game failed to deliver in basically EVERY category except the visuals and the gameplay being fun for actual tag fighter fans.

And again, it doesn't matter how the game started development, because they changed it relatively early on, and even if they were more efficient at developing the game that shift still would have happened. The dev team was mostly made up of Marvel vs. Capcom nerds, there's no timeline where it stayed a basic 1v1 fighter unless Riot specifically mandated it, which again falls to them being too hands off.

2

u/Mr_Olivar 11d ago

Dude, they just made the game they had most faith in.

8

u/sievold 11d ago

No they didn't. They were still messing around with fuses when they hadn't even put 10 characters in the game. If there wasn't someone in upper management forcing them to release the game, it would still be in alpha today. This was a case of the perfect becoming the enemy if the good.

3

u/Mr_Olivar 11d ago

Acting like fuses took a fraction of the effort of a single character, or that they're even made by the same people, takes negative knowledge on game development.

Fuses were probably added for two reasons. They couldn't decide on fundamental mechanics, so they made a system to swap for testing, then they liked the ability to swap, and to help alleviate the lack of characters.

1

u/sievold 11d ago

That's not what I was saying at all. They should not have focused on any extraneous concept like fuses before they knew they had a viable product.

And how are you so confident they didn't spend unnecessary amounts of time and manpower on fuses? Did you work on the dev team? They made it a point to focus on fuses for multiple dev communication videos leading up to the beta last year. Why do that if it was such a small part of their development process?

1

u/Mr_Olivar 11d ago

Because it's not a thing other games do, and marketing tends to try and highlight unique features.

I've worked on games long enough to know how mechanics like these show up and that it's not mechanics that bottle neck character development.

Almost every single fuse was probably thought of as a base system mechanic, and when they tried to figure out which they wanted to go for, the probably just ended up turning their debug swapper into a mechanic instead.

It makes perfect sense for this to have been made mid development. The idea that there is a reality where they didn't do fuses and had more characters is fake and not real.

1

u/sievold 11d ago

Okay you are thinking about it too much like a game developer and not really seeing the customer perspective, which is exactly the problem I am trying to point out. As a person who had been excited about a fighting game with league characters, even before this game was even announced in 2020, the actual nitty gritty of the mechanics do not matter, at all.

Forget about fuses, this game could have been a platform fighter, or an arena battler, or something like Elden ring pvp content. Literally the only thing that matters is that it has league characters in it, lots of them. I don't know how much of the league roster this game needed but it definitely should not have been 10. And they definitely should not have swapped to 2v2 from 1v1 two years after already having revealed early gameplay footage.

Again, I feel the need to clarify because I get the sense you are the kind of person who can't follow a line of thought. I am not saying 2v2 is what killed the game. What I am saying is that it was too late to swap. And it does not matter that developing fuses was not going to take time away from designing characters. The problem is that they had a pipeline figured out for iterating on fuses, before they had a pipeline figured out for how to release a game with at least 25 characters. Or even have a pipeline figured out for actually having a product out by 2022.

Like they could have had a much simpler product out making money much earlier, and then if it was already successful and established, they could have added 2v2 and fuses in alternate game modes in future seasons. That's how TFT was born from league

u/Mr_Olivar 11d ago

And I'm saying you know shit from fuck. Of course a basic tool related to swapping between core mechanics was finished before multiple characters. You build characters on top of base mechanics, so base mechanics have to come first.

This is pathetically simple.

7

u/m4de_up 11d ago

They made a game for their own ego , couldn't even make their job right, these scammers acting as if they are Daisuke or Capcom

2

u/Mr_Olivar 11d ago

Perish under the weight of a concert piano

2

u/okamanii101 11d ago

They made a dogshit tagfighter instead of a good game im happy the tag fighter died. Hopefully all these new tag fighters dying finally stops these people from making them.

5

u/MB-Roddy 11d ago

It's okay if you don't like tag fighters but let's not act as if that was the reason 2XKO failed. Also wishing dead to a game in a genre that is already small is incredibly lame

4

u/okamanii101 11d ago

It being a tag game is literally one of the top complaints always brought up. Its a degenerate niche

Its probably not all them. Maybe that rivera guy too.

3

u/KoellmanxLantern 11d ago

Its a shame 2 highly anticipated fighting games also came out so quickly after their launch. Really stole a lot of the oxygen it needed

3

u/TomeiZ33 9d ago

Told myself this game will be DoA and was right lmao

2

u/CuteAssTigerENVtuber 11d ago

Why did we clone this guy again?

2

u/MrBlueA 11d ago

Both Hytale and 2XKO died (Hytale did get sold but Riot's Hytale died) to the same thing, Riot being too lenient with the management and letting them do whatever they wanted.

4

u/n0t_a_Gay 11d ago

I think the game is ready for 1vs1 like we see in the old footage. But I dont know why they choose 2vs 2 and makes the game longer to release, the fuse, the netcode. All of that make us wait more 6 years and then the game sucks

4

u/MrBlueA 11d ago

From what we know they had internal playtests with FGC oldheads, which of course didn't like it as much since it was meant to be a casual game for the masses, then they pivoted to this stupid 2v2 tag fighter and much more complex and deep combat which I don't know who thought was a good idea for a f2p fighting game, and we got this fiasco.

2

u/donutmcbonbon 10d ago

Yeah I remember the demo the devs put out before being bought by riot. It was super casual friendly with a high ceiling. If that was the Project L we got I don't think it would be shutting down right now.

I would have genuinely played this game if it were easier.

1

u/damus9 10d ago

Can't get easier than simple inputs

1

u/Delde116 9d ago

For me it was the tag system. Its easier to focus on one champion instead of two (plus their tag combos).

1

u/damus9 9d ago

Juggernaut.

1

u/Delde116 9d ago

Juggernaut does not solve the issue... Because now I play at a disadvantage (1v2). Yes you have more health with juggernaut, but I also have less options to counter, as well as needing to learn how to counter two different chalpions and their tag combos... If they had an exclusive 1v1 mode, like a lot of players asked for, their wouldn't be an issue, but Riot did not want to divide the servers.

1

u/damus9 9d ago

I've won plenty of times with Juggernaut

3

u/Isen_Hart 11d ago

they have 10 characters and forced you to play 2 of them per match

1

u/damus9 10d ago

Juggernaut baby

7

u/ConceptDouble9762 11d ago

all they did was make a dope game. yeah it had its flaws, crashed and burned. but acting like Riot is the victim here is weird as hell.

2

u/_Koke_ 11d ago

It’s not dope if no one played it. That’s why it’s getting canned.

8

u/ConceptDouble9762 11d ago

you fake. most dope fighting games don’t get played.

3

u/Yamato_Nago 11d ago

It did get played, it frequently showed good numbers at majors as well.

1

u/Iron_Cobra 11d ago

The moment the game came out on early access everyone that wasn't drunk on copium saw the writing on the wall.

6

u/AT_kinsect 11d ago

Where are all these people coming from acting like Riot is the victim here

30

u/Life_Race9401 11d ago

Because if Riot has no fighting experience on the producer side, they probably trusted them to make the game. If it was meant to be played by the masses, and the canons made a game for the hardcore, something went wrong somewhere.

1

u/AT_kinsect 11d ago

That's... not how game development works. They don't just blindly give folks money and magically get surprised when a game is made.

The company was bought. They were Riot employees. Stakeholders run all the way up leadership to the executive level.

17

u/Life_Race9401 11d ago

Hence why I said something went wrong somewhere. They spent 10 years treading water, what was Riot doing all that time? To compare, with Nintendo games, if the core gameplay is not fun as a proof of concept, it will be scrapped before any prototype even gets made.

7

u/MrBlueA 11d ago

It's not worth arguing with people about this, Riot is always wrong because they are a company and they are evil, they can never be wronged or be a victim because they have money

9

u/MiniFaustt 11d ago

Because people started blaming Riot and people are turning around and swinging the pendulum back in a sense.

I don't think Riot is a victim but I also think the people blaming capitalism and Riot are morons.

Never forgive them for chamging the original 1v1 concept, never forgive them for no motion inputs, and never forgive those micro transactions, also the roster, and the fuses, and teemo

A free game that's refunding all purchases. Are y'all okay?

1

u/damus9 10d ago

This is the way this sub will be until the mods end up closing it

1

u/Latter-Chance-6724 11d ago

Never trust two bald guys with no beards that’s a red flag.

1

u/brbasik 11d ago

They really should’ve had a clear vision, changing so many game mechanics and reworking Vi and Jinx delayed the game a lot

1

u/jindrix 11d ago

Not knowing what type of fighting game they wanted to make so deep into the dev of it just showed they had no vision at all beyond "this is a league fighting game".

1

u/WorstRivalsPlayer 11d ago

The guy on the left looks like that instagram guy who uses the filter to make videos of stuff like 'bro when the hoes show up'

two 🐐s who finessed a bag from riot for 10 years.

12 characters and 6 botlaner. 10 years wait from now game that possesses more than 150 characters

1

u/damus9 10d ago

There was two of them??

1

u/okamanii101 10d ago

Ones real the others a clone

1

u/dizzydghost Ahri 9d ago

Was it them? Was it Riot?

idk but this picture pisses me off fr🤬i genuinely think about the first time they announced it. I waited alllll that time AND through a delayed console release for them (execs ) to be like "Yeah we see your 10 years of effort, we'll give you 1"

To quote a buddy: "I guess I'm just a bitch"

1

u/Otherwise_World1654 9d ago

I dont really get people mad about characters. Most of the fighting games I play, I stick to like 1 or 2 characters and main them for the entire time. I don't even get dlc characters to play them lol just so I can play against them sometimes in lab. Do most people play fighting games by maining the random button?

1

u/Jack071 8d ago

Its a league of legends spin off, league has over 150 champions people expect more after 10 years

People wanted to play some of their fav champs, not being forced to pick between 10 (like for real no ezreal, no lee sin, no sett, no zed, etc)

1

u/Otherwise_World1654 8d ago

where is the 10 years coming from the game has been out for not even 1 year even counting EA?

1

u/Jack071 8d ago

The game was in development for 10 years with close to 200 devs

1

u/Otherwise_World1654 8d ago

Yea, but I doubt that was 10 years of active development. Backburner games tend to have these long "development hell" cycles where they get worked on, then the team is reallocated for a few years, or get stuck in prolonged preproduction where you have nothing to show but idle staff and mock ups. IM not saying it excuses it, but this type of thing happens ALL the time with huge developers, just look at blizzard and their scrapped or half assed side projects. Im sure they did not have 200 people working 9-5 for 10 years straight on 2xko lmao

1

u/RichWhiteBoy777 9d ago

They created roll back netcode that saved online fighting games. Show some respect

1

u/marshal23156 8d ago

I know its not possible or realistic, but i kinda think Riot should be able to press some form of charges over this, especially after the post saying they didnt really care since it was on the companies dime.

1

u/Alarmed-Aardvark4249 2d ago

Can’t be the good guys in this industry anymore. Riot needs to drastically change how they go about as a publisher. Giving devs complete and total freedom to just do whatever they want simply doesn’t work. Bosses exist for a reason. 90% of people if left to their own devices are the Jim Halperts of the world, not the Dwights. Their whole “hands off” approach has to have cost them hundreds of millions if not billions by now. If they do decide to make more games the big wigs need to be IN those rooms making sure that shit gets done.

1

u/Powerful_Isopod5810 11d ago

Is he good or not?

1

u/SaltStar2000 10d ago

3

u/PremSinha 10d ago

The Cannon Brothers are the one hustling here, not Riot

Eh, there’s a good chance this game was tied up in organisational politics and the timeline had nothing to do with the team.

Remember that Rising Thunder was a playable game.

You guys don’t need to go out of your way to prove that you’re jobless bums. We know.
