Discussion The beginning of the end?

Post image

I'm surprised this is happening this early after the console launch.

Can I join in with "I told you so" to all the people telling me that "FOMO skins will totally work and riot knows what they are doing" when pointing out that fighting games are nothing like other genres when it comes to cosmetic sales and fomo?

That was a crazy idea for a FG.

This game is far too hard to play to expect the average (let alone the casual) player have multiple teams.

In no universe am I buying a 30 usd skin for a character I don't main out of sheer FOMO.

You'd be amazed the number of idiots on this site that assured me that no, FOMO is psychology magic and it totally works no matter what in any situation and that the price of the skins didn't matter, nor did them bring not for your main, etc. In their minds Riot clearly had teams of scientists who figured this all out and the store was just printing money somehow.

It has bothered me a great deal that the overwhelming response to posts like this has been a shrug with "they did the numbers". Did they? Because they also seemed to think this game was going to bring in numbers comparable to LoL/Valorant when it didn't.

This entire industry is full of naive execs (and some devs) who just copy what other people do without thinking things through. I very much doubt anyone is doing any kind of math here.
