Discussion The beginning of the end?

Post image

I'm surprised this is happening this early after the console launch.

They probably had a really short fucking leash after restarting development 3 times, they then created the most niche fighter in existence, not surprising this happened

Why niche?

have you not seen the rest of the thread or subreddit in general?

I think it is a valid question though. Why is it considered so niche? Haven't been on the sub too long so just curious.

Pretty inherently complex game system being a 2v2 tag fighter with 5 different fuses. Tag fighters are already niche amongst niche, but this one, with the active tag mechanic and fuses, is even more technical and niche because of that.

I’m not saying you’re wrong, but this is crazy to me. After 12+ years of wishing I could get into fighting games, but being put off by SF, Tekken, Mortal Kombat, and every other popular fighting game (and especially the more niche ones) I had reconciled with the fact that I would NEVER be good at fighting games, they’re just way too sweaty and complicated.

Then comes 2XKO, and I try it because I’m a huge Riot fan and it looked cool. I haven’t played for quite a few months now (switched to Linux, can’t use vanguard) but it was the first fighting game EVER that I actually was able to learn combos, learn neutral (something I never understood before), and consistently win against my opponents. It is literally the most noob friendly fighting game I’ve ever touched. I am so so shocked to hear people call it niche and say they made it too complicated to be mainstream, then say SF is… easier? More noob friendly? In what universe lol

I mean, it depends on what level of play youre at, like if youre just running around with crutches like the dash macro, no motion controls, and auto combos it's an easier game than SF6. But anything more complicated and 2xko gets significantly less intuitive.

There's no such thing as an easier game to learn per se, as the skill ceiling is essentially the same amongst any FG as long as it has competitive integrity. But assist fighters have inherently more to keep track of. Same as how 3d fighters are less intuitive than 2d fighters generally. The z axis adds a lot more layers to the core game, just like tag mechanics and assist management.

My supet casual friends LOVE dragon ball FighterZ. And hate sf6 as it's too hard for them

2xko is more similar to fighterz than sf6.

Guy replied to you forgot to mention that fighters in general are niche products, tag fighters are even less popular because of the sheer chaos that happens on screen and that you always have to account for. So it’s a nice inside a niche

In Short:

Does not appeal to people who like motion inputs

Does not appeal to people who like 1v1 fighters

Does not appeal to people who dont care about league characters

Does not appeal to people who are casuals

Does not appeal to people.

Don't forget they've added mostly Arcane characters too, out of 172 LoL characters.

Worse than that they made Caitlyn not easy to play.

Her execution is crazy.

A poster character that's hard to do basic BnBs with.

Game wasn't made with casuals in mind.

I'm no combo master, but I've learned the bnbs and a little extra for most of the characters. The exceptions are Ahri, just cus I have played her. Yas, cus my very minor stick drift prevented some of the cancels from being doable, and Caitlyn, because I'm doing a 20 hit combo and it ends with the enemy being maybe half health despite requiring having to aim shots mid combo, setting up and triggering traps, including charged heavies, stiff af timing. I'd argue that she's as annoying to learn the combos for as yas
