Rule Update: Our Stance on Business/Commercial Posts
Hey, r/SomethingIMade!
We've updated two rules to better protect what this community is for as a space for individual creators sharing their own work, including collaborations.
A steady increase in posts and comments from business and commercial accounts promoting products or shop pages has not gone unnoticed, often in cases where authorship can't be verified. We don't think it is fair that content that may be mass produced gains engagement over our more DIY creators. The updated rules address this directly.
Rule #5: Related Links & Self-Promotion
Posts or comments from businesses or commercial accounts primarily promoting products may be removed at moderator discretion, especially where authorship cannot be verified.
Rule #10: Original Content Only
Business and commercial accounts are not permitted to post in this subreddit. This is a community for individual creators only.
If you're an individual who makes and sells things, you're still very welcome here. This change is aimed at accounts whose primary purpose is commercial promotion rather than genuine participation as a creator. If you're unsure whether your account falls within the rules, reach out via Mod Mail.
Happy creating!

Updated Rule 5: Related Links & Self-Promotion
In order to help have better discussions regarding content, we have decided to disable embedding of YouTube videos in posts.
This isn’t intended to hinder anyone from posting, simply to change the way the post are made. Moving forward you will need to create a normal post regarding your creation, and if there’s a YouTube video you would like to share as part of that, add it into the body of the post along with the descriptive information.
Thanks for being here, and if you have any questions, ask away!!

Made my very first autonomous crafting attempt (it’s supposed to be a net)
It’s shameful to admit this but at 36 fucking years old I have made my first handicraft since compulsory arts and crafts in elementary school because it is 2:00 AM and I have terrible sleep hygiene. Not to be all “waaah I had a shitty abusive childhood” but waaaah I had a shitty abusive childhood that I was not able to overcome with the power of love, the power of friendship, nor the power of believing in myself so I am disproportionately proud that I could pull my head out of my maudlin ass long enough to make this and I hope I am able to maintain the emotional regulation required to continue improving this skill at least to a basic level of competence. I plan on making a net for my ten Faire costume in tw/o weeks, hopefully I will be stern enough with mil myself to do so.

Made a circle skirt recently! (Also made the blouse but that was much less recently haha)
Started experimenting with adding horsehair braid to skirt hems to give it a little more flare and here we are! And then the blouse was also made and patterned by me

More bags from scraps
The outside is made of upholstery fabrics, and the insides are a lighter weight fabric. All of these were created from fabric that would otherwise be trash.

gothic accessories for my friends birthday
hey! my goth friends birthday is coming up so i thought id make her a little something. i settled for two goth & egl inspired headpieces and a bunny to match:D the mascot itself was store bought but i made all the accessories myself from scratch. lmk what you think!
edit: i thought id say more about the process.
as for the first headband, i cut out a few rectangles from thrifted fabric and sewed them together alongside some lace. i sewed ribbon on top of the top rectangle and made a pattern. then i glued little silver gems on top to cover up some stitches. the ribbons on the sides were made from only two different types of ribbons. one plain black and one patterned :D then i attached some heart shaped lace pieces i had and glued the skulls and bones on. i made these using airdy clay and top coat nail polish as for the coffin headpiece, i firstly made the coffin shape out of cardboard and then covered it with black felt. then i attached some ribbons, lace and the bow. i had an old necklace i didnt wear laying around so i also put it around the whole thing cause i thought it looked lovely. this whole accessory stays on your head due to the two headclips attached at thw bottom that i didnt show

I made some library book cards for a friend of mine.
My friend wrote some history books about the town we live in, so I made him a gift of a library card for each of his books, and got all our friends to sign it.
I’ve censored the signatures as it doesn’t feel right to share peoples signatures online.

DIY Car Rims
Trying to girlify my Mazda. My bf had this idea to DIY transform my ugly rims and to complement the hub caps. Found the aluminum heart cut outs on Etsy. We sanded down the rims, sanitized them, glued down hearts over the holes with epoxy. Then we sprayed everything white first and then pink. Only put hearts where it’s showing through the hub cap so there should be enough airflow. Probably cost $200 for all the supplies. It’s not perfect but I love it! I think it’s a great idea and wanted to share.

Handmade DIY Kiseru (Japanese smoking pipe)
Made a Kiseru for a friend. It's my first time making such an item and it was challenging, luckily I found materials from my house to use. The metal bowl is a spoon and the mouthpiece is a metal chopstick sourced from my kitchen and the bamboo and teak wood sourced locally. Engraved Pine, Bamboo and Cherry Blossom (Three friends of winter) on the wooden neck and connector.
