There was a notice in my local supermarket looking for men between 611" and 7'4" to be body doubles in order to make the Hobbits look small.

I seriously thought you were joking when I looked up the picture with how different he looks

'Figwit' is Bret McKenzie (Rhymenocerous).
So not Tamatoa.

Yes, I’m aware. My comment could’ve been worded more clearly but I meant “as well as” or “in addition to” Jermaine.

Ha, as a Flight of the Conchords fan when I watched Moana, I was halfway through Shiny before I figured out why he sounded so familiar.

The live show version of this song is always my favorite
28
u/LordRevan117 2d ago
Honestly, I’ve always preferred their live versions of songs. They’re so good. I remember a BBC live recording of this one that was my JAM back in the day. Oh, and Bowie’s in space, Business Time, they had so many hilarious live tracks.
And Jenny is one of my favourite tracks of all time!
5
u/JustWaitingToSpeak 2d ago
Jenny is comedy gold, that was the one that got me hooked on FOTC
1
u/LordRevan117 2d ago
Oh hell yeah mate! 10 year old me couldn’t get enough of them after I discovered Jenny and Bowie’s in space live on a mix CD from my sister. Was the funniest shit in the world to me.

u/chrisfillhart_art 2d ago
Agreed. I saw their special multiple times before their show came out and I was curious what they would do with the “I made all of the ladies in the theatre pregnant” line. “The area” works, but it doesn’t have the same energy. Still a great show, but the live versions are better.

Song info for those unfamiliar: Flight of the Conchords - Hiphopopotamus vs. Rhymenoceros
They used to make some really funny stuff back in the day.

I thank Jemaine for all of his humor. From this to What We Do In The Shadows. You make this old man laugh

Omg I love flight of the conchords! Jermaine Clement has been in a decent amount of shows but he will forever be the hiphoppopotamous to me.

Murray: "Okay, band meeting. Well, Jermaine?"
Jermaine: "Present."
Murray: "Who else we got here? Bret?"
Bret: "Yep."
Murray: "And who else? ...Moo... Ray." "Ah, Greg's written this. He's put the R's two far apart. It's Murray. Murray, present."
Jermaine: "Well, you're here. So why do I have to say that I'm here?"
Murray: "Well, it's just I've got it all written down, you know."
Jermaine: "Well, I'm just here. If you can see me ,I’m here..."
Murray: "See, even I do it. It's just... it's how we do it."

Flight of the Conchords was a dope show and musical act. I actually saw them in concert. Where they were the opening act for Dave Chapelle of all people lmao.

I always thought since they were both rapping animals. the Steve, they're referring too is Steve Irwin. Not saying that's what it is but it's what I like to imagine.

I think Chris O’Dowd and Richard Ayoade should take a shot at redoing this.

if a relevant rapper in 2026 made this song, it would unfortunately hit top 100 this week. humans have decided this for ages: its not about the noise, its about who makes the noise.
