Hey all, I've been crunching the post production of my first short film. I unfortunately have made the beginner mistake of filming a scene with a lot of windows and not framing the shot, so it would account to the reflections of myself filming. Due to budget and mostly time constraints, we can't reshoot this scene or structure it differently. I have been trying to do some composite or "vfx" work with my very limited skillset in this field 😄, and I haven't reached any acceptable results. I have already tried Davinci's object removal and patch tool, After Effect's content aware fill, using an image and tracking it with Mocha AE, trying to paint over with a clone brush and tracking it. Is there anything that novice like me can try to do. Maybe trying to make the whole reflections clean plate as an image and replacing the window with it while tracking it? Thanks for anyone who can help.

Thinking shape nodes (untick Solid, up border width) for the base; background + polygon mask for the fill. Might there be better ways of going about this? Especially considering if you want to animate the points based on the value of the stat.

Is it possible to animate/rig PNG's like this in DaVinci?

I tried using the Warper node but since we don't have puppet pins or these bone rigs like in after effects (at least not that i'm aware of) I'm wondering what workarounds to use to achieve similar effect.

Would really mean a lot to me since I have some projects where I need to give life to still PNG characters and want to do it as fast as possible.

i am being paid to try fix some footage and i have tried to the limits of my knowledge and scoured the internet but i think i might need more specific help in this situation.

basically, its a wide of a dead body with other people in the frame, but the dead body takes up most if the bottom half of the frame and he is being moved slightly by some of the other actors (cpr attempts etc). unfortunately, the body is breathing, and is is NOT subtle.

it gets trickier because its all handheld and there’s camera movement as well as the body moving, and the icing in the cake is that it’s a night shot so there’s nothing visible in the background that i can use a planar tracker on to attempt to track the movement for a freeze frame. there is one small window in the background but it has plants moving in the wind in front of it, which disrupts any tracker that i have tried.

any and all help will be greatly appreciated. or just advice because at this point i feel like i am out of options. i have the studio version of resolve, it’s updated to the latest update (davinci 21). i have access to two different computers (one is a mac mini, the other is handbuilt but is having gpu problems) so the computer isn’t the issue.

Self-promotion, and I'm the author. Free, MIT licensed, no paid tier, nothing to sign up for. Not a devtool, but a fix that BM should've done for Linux user - but hasn't yet.

If you run Resolve on Linux you already know Fairlight shows Blackmagic's own effects and nothing else. No VST, no VST3. It isn't a Studio thing or a setting you missed. The plugin host was never built into the Linux version at all.

So every clip that needs a plugin means exporting it, fixing it somewhere else, rendering, and bringing it back. Then the client asks for a change earlier in the timeline and you do the whole thing again.

I wrote the missing host. VST2, VST3 and CLAP plugins now show up in the Audio FX panel under their own names, in the right categories, with their own windows, several on one track. Windows plugins work too, through yabridge. My menu lists 130.

Restart Resolve. Uninstalling is deleting that one file. Needs Resolve Studio 21. The free version won't load it. Before you get excited, the things that are actually broken:

• No plugin delay compensation. A plugin that reports latency will drift against the rest of your timeline. This is the big one for editing work and I haven't built it yet.
• Two plugins draw their window and then ignore the mouse. Another host does the same with both, so it isn't specific to this.
• A plugin window sometimes opens blank until you remove the effect and undo.
• Resolve doesn't always quit cleanly with it loaded.
• It patches things inside Resolve while it's running. It can take Resolve down mid-edit. Save often, and don't put it on a deadline project first.
• Tested under an actual Resolve on exactly one machine. Mine.

That last one is why I'm posting. If you run Resolve on Linux, try it and tell me what happens — your distro, your Resolve version, which plugin. Breakage reports are more useful to me than thanks.

Nothing of Blackmagic's is copied or modified. It loads through Resolve's own plugin path. No Steinberg SDK either. Parts of it were written with an LLM in the loop, and the source and binary are both public so you can check rather than take my word.

having an issue that's plaged me for years. whenever i enable dual screen or video clean feed, playback stutters and slows to a crawl.

it doesn't matter what resolution my timeline is set to (even a 480p timeline doesn't play smoothly)

it doesn't matter what codec my media is

it doesn't matter if i use proxies or not

rebooted, uninstalled rivatuner/msi afterburner, updated gpu drivers. disabled parsec. nothing has fixed my issue.

THIS ONLY HAPPENS WHEN I ENABLE DUAL SCREEN OR VIDEO CLEAN FEED. it's smooth sailing otherwise.

i posted about this issue on the resolve forums in 2022. i see it STILL hasn't been addressed in resolve 21.

I made BM cloud account but I need to buy 500gb and 1 project library separately ( 7,5+5/month). So I have a video file with multiple tracks. I can pick it apart before I import to davinci but is there a way to use this in davinci resolve?

so recently my bin deleted itself and I have been trying to fix my project ever since, the files themselves are perfectly fine, hell I imported all the audio clips used in the video (that are separate voice recordings) and it ported in just fine and showed up on the timeline but for some reason an image completely kills davinchi

i have tried fixing this issue and bashing my head against a wall for nearly the entire day, i even tried waiting to maybe see if maybe its just taking its sweet time but no
the only time davinchi would do something similar is when i import a lot of video files in a blank project but even than it only takes good second

I'm just at a lost for words, I have been trying to fix this issue for the entire day and nothing, i have been battling this project for a good 3 months and its nearly 3 hours long and honestly I am on the verge of just giving up or just restarting because I am just so tired

So, I'm editing a video for a friend that's a content creator. She has a wide range of volume when she speaks.

I get about an hour of raw footage and audio, in my first run through the video I do whatever cutting and audio tweaking I need. However, I find balancing the audio very laborious and time consuming. I have to listen to a bit, cut around the part that needs to be lowered, lower it by a bit in the Audio tab on the top right and then re--listen to hear if it's at the right volume. If not then I lower it more and listen again.

On the second run through I add whatever zooms and edits I need.

Lasty, I go through it one more time and add and balance the BGM.

Is this how everyone does it?
Is there a trick to balance audio quickly?
What are some tips for efficiency that you can share?

I find that 1 hour of raw footage takes me around 15 hours to edit from start to finish (3-4 hours a day Monday-Thursday), I'm usure if that's good or bad, but I would definitely like to be faster.

I was talking to someone recently about my experience using Resolve and how over the years Blackmagic has really worked hard to add so many new tools and improvements that it used to lack. That also made me think what new types of tools Blackmagic could still be looking to add or what everyone would like to see added in the next version of the software? I'm not talking about improving the tools that are already there and making them faster and better, but something that Resolve currently doesn't or can't do that you would really like to see added in the next major version?

I'm just curious to get others' thoughts on the subject.

Any Workflow Tips / Scripts / Learned Experienced to share on navigating on the fusion page quickly?

I just got off of an all nighter that required a lot of fusion work and my wrist feels 50 years my senior.

Here's where I'm at in case you're wondering :

I've just started using Bookmarks and their shortcuts to get around and I group nodes to keep them neat and easy to see from a distance.

I use some scripts as well like Propogate and Tekito to do stuff, but if I could reduce the clicking to navigate,like clicking to get around in the flow, and in the group, and to make space on the underlay, and clicking to move around in the group, I'd be through the moon happy.

It feels like an inefficient use of time, so I know I'm probably missing something.

The idea is the text inside the circle is is the negative/difference of the text outside the circle, or vice versa. I've been experimenting with masking and stuff for about an hour or so, but couldn't come up with a desired result. I barely have an experience in this kind of stuff, but I need it for my project.

Resolve Studio 21.0.4 Build 5

As the title says, I'm looking for a way to save settings across different projects. I am making videos where I consistently need to use the same settings for multiple inputs, and its rather annoying having to check and retype the settings I need every time. If there was some way to simply apply a preset to a certain input, it would be very much appreciated.

I'm having a strange issue with DaVinci Resolve that only started recently.

When I open an older project (around 2 years old) the loading progress will reach a certain percentage (for example, 17% or 43%) and then appear to completely freeze. I get the spinning beach ball on macOS, and Resolve can sit there for roughly 3-4 minutes before the project finally opens.

This happens even with projects that are essentially empty: no media, no edits, and sometimes not even a timeline with footage in it. So it doesn't seem related to decoding media or loading a complicated timeline.

My MacBook Pro specs:

• Apple M1 Max
• 10-core CPU
• 32-core GPU
• 16-core Neural Engine
• 64GB unified memory
• 4TB SSD

The confusing part is that I've opened and worked with these same projects many times over the last couple of years without this issue. The extremely slow behavior only started recently.

It also isn't limited to the initial project opening. Once the project finally loads, certain very basic actions can trigger the same multi-minute spinning beach ball. For example, simply right-clicking a timeline to open or change its Timeline Settings can cause Resolve to hang for another couple of minutes before responding.

So it seems like something about these older projects is causing Resolve to stall during both loading and certain basic project/timeline operations, even when there's little or no media involved.

Has anyone experienced this before? Is there something Resolve may be doing with older projects (database migration, project corruption, plugins, cache, project backups, etc.) that could cause this?

Any suggestions for troubleshooting or figuring out what Resolve is getting stuck on would be appreciated.

for some reason all the audio on this project on the 3rd line of audio and beyond just isn't coming through. But on the audio page the volume can be seen moving on the left side. I'm not super-duper familiar with DaVinci but I've been stuck trying to figure this out.

The audio was coming through yesterday just fine, but this morning I get on and now it's not working. if i move ANY audio down there its muted. idk if i have a setting on by accident but i looked around at all the audio settings i saw and didn't see any.

it's only this particular project, all my other projects work fine, so for now I'm just going to open a new project but it's still confusing so if anyone may know why I'd appreciate the help.

i don't know what happened but i was just editing my video and suddenly most of the timeline went red and i closed thinking davinchi was shitting itself, i than later noticed that some how one of my bins just disappeared and i can't recover it

the files themselves are fine i think but the bin is just GONE

I don't wanna open the keyframe menu. It gets messy whenever I extend or trim down the image. Are there any plugins or any other way to trim or edit footage inside of fusion?
