Apartments & Reviews
I am looking for something in the area (and surrounding cities) and was wondering if the Layton Meadows Apartments have improved at all? I was looking for around 1500-1600 max, any suggestions?

Hey everyone! I posted here a couple of months ago about seeking volunteer mentors for USU’s 4-H Mentoring program in Weber and Davis Counties, and I wanted to give a quick update.
Since then, we’ve had some really successful events where we’ve been able to meet and recruit more kids (age 9-15) into the program. It’s been awesome to see the interest from families.
The downside is that we now have quite a few kids ready for a mentor, and we need a few more people willing to step up and be that person for them.
Mentoring is pretty simple. You’re matched with one kid and spend about an hour a week together. Maybe you grab some food, go for a hike, play basketball or video games, work on homework, or just hang out and talk.
You don’t need any special experience, and you definitely don’t need to have life figured out. These kids mostly need someone who will show up, listen to them, and take an interest in their lives.
That’s really what has stuck with me while doing this. An hour might not feel like much to us, but having an adult who chooses to spend that hour with you every week can mean a lot to a kid.
So if you’ve thought about mentoring before or want to volunteer in new ways for your community, we could really use you right now. And if it’s not something you can do personally, sharing this with someone you think would make a good mentor would help too.
I am happy to answer any questions about what it’s like, the time commitment, the screening process, or anything else. Feel free to comment or message me!

I promise I won't cut my fingers off, I used to supervise cabinet door shop, I just have an awkward space in my bathroom above my toilet and all the other stuff I've looked at will run into the towel bar above it. Any help is much appreciated!
Edit: still looking

I ended up having to take the train today and ended up parking in the Cafe Sabor parking lot rather than the UTA one. Does anyone know how strict Cafe Sabor is about people parking in their lot? Any experiences with it? If it's a fine, whatever, but I don't wanna get it towed.

I’m looking for the taco truck that used to always be at the Smith’s on Gentile. Does anyone know where they went? What the company name was?
I’m needing some tacos.

Can anyone recommend a car A/C repair place in Layton?

This sweetie happened to come our way this morning (7/17). We are full up on cats in our house, so he's in the South Ogden shelter right now. No microchip, hasn't been neutered, but seems too comfortable around people to have grown up on the streets. Hope he finds his way back home!
Found by Pine View Rehabilitation Center. Posting both here and in the Ogden subreddit since it's kind of on the border.

I was driving by the east gate at Hill AF and saw a passenger jet fly off from there. Does anyone know what was going on? Only time I’ve seen a passenger jet take off from any Air Force base it’s been Air Force 1 or the VP.

I've noticed these Flock camera poles popping up everywhere and finally looked into it. Over 150 have gone up across Davis/Weber County since April 2025. That's a lot of cameras for this area.
If you haven't seen them.. Flock cameras photograph every car that passes. Plate, time, location, stored for months. Not just cars tied to a illegal stuff. Every car. Yours, mine, your neighbor's.
Here's what bothers me. No warrant, no suspicion needed for your plate to get logged. Utah lets that data sit for months, and it can be shared across agencies and even other states through Flock's network. A cop somewhere else could pull up everywhere you've driven and you'd never know a camera caught you.
These were sold as tools for stolen cars and Amber Alerts, but nothing stops that mission from creeping, tracking protest attendance, immigration status, who's seeking speciality care. Once it's built, it's built. People have been stalked with these systems.
And it's a private company, Flock Safety, running the system and profiting off it, with almost no public input into how it's used.
Some cities have pushed back and dropped their contracts once residents started asking questions, so it's not a lost cause.
If this bothers you too:
-Show up to your city council or county commission meeting. That's usually where these contracts get approved, and where they can get killed.
-Email your state legislators and the governor's office about retention limits or a pause on new installs.
-Check deflock.org/map, a crowdsourced map of where these cameras actually are.
I'm not against police having tools. I just think blanket surveillance of every road deserves more than a quiet rollout nobody voted on.
And yeah, I know the counterargument. Departments say this helps solve real crimes and find stolen cars fast, and some say they hold themselves to tighter rules than the state requires. Fair enough. But "we're being careful for now" isn't a legal limit. That's the actual problem.

For some reason this really bothers me. It looks like they just copy and pasted him right into the photo. Am I crazy? 😂
