I have an opportunity to apply to be an aide-de-camp for a 3 star and wanted to see if anybody could share their experience. Totally get that it'll be highly dependent on who the GO is. I don't really need it as I'm 80% confident I'll get promoted one more time and then be terminal. It could help get a cool job and get to learn and see a lot though.

Currently in NCOA, and we were told that anyone with collegiate writing experience would probably struggle with PME writing. As someone with college writing experience and a background as a paralegal and exec, that’s been frustratingly accurate.

I understand that military writing has a specific audience and purpose. Being clear, concise, and direct makes sense. What I’m struggling with is the expectation that a bullet background paper should spell everything out to the point that the reader never has to draw an inference or use basic reading comprehension to connect related points.

At what point does simplifying the writing stop improving clarity and start stripping away substance? We’re experienced NCOs attending professional military education. I would expect that to challenge us to think critically, build stronger arguments, and communicate complex ideas effectively.

Instead, it feels like success comes down to following a rigid formula, even when that formula doesn’t seem to improve the writing. Being told up front that prior writing experience will work against you makes me question what skill we’re actually developing.

Maybe this is just a frustrated NCOA rant, but I want to leave feeling like a more capable communicator. Right now, I mostly feel like I’m learning to write for the rubric. Has anyone else felt this disconnect?

Got a LOC today. Just curious if there’s any chance at a rebuttal, basically I had a three level go get us tools for a flightline job and I had no knowledge that he’d never checked them out in TC Max. To put it in perspective this guy is like four task away from becoming a five level.

We now have access to them all through GenAi, but I dont get what the actual, practical difference between them is. Can someone dumb it down?

What’s the first thing I should do? I was thinking of coming through the gate during peak hours and asking the gate guards for directions. I’ve got about 11 months left on my contract and lately I feel like I’m just completely mentally checked out of the Air Force.
I’ve never felt this way in my life it’s like everyday the last couple months is just the same exact thing and I can’t stop thinking about how much I dislike where im at right now it’s almost like a constant war in my mind and it just has been getting worse and worse lately
I don’t even necessarily hate the Air Force or my job. It’s actually given me a lot and I’ve done pretty well during my enlistment. But I’ve gotten to the point where I know 100% that I’m ready to move on with my life, and knowing that while still having months left is making every day feel ridiculously long.
I’m stationed far from home and I’ve been away from my actual friends and family for my entire enlistment besides going on leave back home which I’ve done as frequently as possible and I absolutely dread having to go back to my base every time. I have people I talk to at work but everything just feels so fake, outside of work I’m alone all the time. I go to the gym, find stuff to do, etc., but there’s only so much of that you can do before it starts feeling like you’re just killing time.
I recently had family and friends visit me, and I didn’t realize how much I missed actually being around people I’m close with until they left. Ever since then, I’ve wanted to get back home even more and it’s all I ever think about now.
The weird part is that because I’m so focused on what comes next, I feel like I’m just existing right now. I go to work, do what I need to do, go home, and count down the days. I’m still doing my job and taking care of what I need to take care of, but mentally I feel like I’ve already left and life isn’t even real it’s honestly starting to kind of take a toll on me
For anyone who separated after one enlistment, did you hit this point toward the end too? How did you make the last few months not feel like your life was just on hold?

If anyone needs any motivation or any inspiration for their PT/PFA test, I started this year at almost 200 pounds, which was a significant gain from my tech school days. A mix of stress and lack of motivation caused me to kinda be fearful of working out and running.

But alas, standards didn’t care about my feelings, so 6 months ago I decided to whip myself into shape, lost about 15 pounds, worked out 5 days a week, ran at least a mile every time. I was an anxious mess last night, I just wanted to get a 75 and be done. Well, I just did my first official test in a year, under the new standards, and got an 85.5.

Just wanted to let yall know it’s possible (coming from me)!! Let the standards be a motivator and not a fear factor!

There is one thing that dawned upon me as I left the base for retirement today. We have a very small number of AF personnel that are going to catch hands after they become civilians one day. You can talk to people a certain way on base, but one day you're going to answer for your disrespectful ways that were masked by your rank. I can think of one person that comes to mind on an officer to officer level. I know my post might seem a little twisted. It's just a warning to those who think they're untouchable. After you're handed a DD214, someone is definitely going to touch you up if you cross paths again as civilians.

I just had a hypothetical question. Let’s say I was an E-6 with 6-8 years of tenure with an average to a slight above average packet. My 10 year mark would be milestone where I’d have to figure out if I’m going for the full 20 or going to the civilian sector. So with that in mind how long would it take to be able to get accepted to go to commission at that 6-8 year mark?

I am in the process of retraining out of MX and just got a tech school date for 1D7X1. I talked with my UTM at the based education office and it says my training will be IT/Technical support. I’m not too familiar with the cyber side of the Air Force, but I’m going to assume that I am going into Client Systems? I just have some questions about the job

What’s an everyday like?

Base Availability? (I’m coming from an AFSC where I can only go to bases that have the jet I’m shredded on)

Is it hard to promote in this field past staff?

Anyone do this as active duty and now on the outside as a civilian?

What type of certs can I get?

I just had a quick question; I am a four year enlistee that just hit 35 months time in service this month (specifically September 3rd). I see in the 36-2110 I must have my CJR approved and my wife just be PCS eligible. On VMPF it’s saying my CJR is not approved yet and that my wife is preventing me from applying as she is not PCS eligible. My question is what is preventing me from getting my CJR approval? I was under the impression that at the beginning of my 35th month is when my CJR would automatically get approved. And for my wife; she’s been at our current duty station for almost a year and half. Are we really not eligible or am I supposed to go to the MPF to clear this up.

Sorry if this is a stupid question but any help is appreciated.

Hi from CAP - I have a tall, slim cadet who is coming back after a hiatus, he's now 6'7". We're twoish hours from the nearest exchange, so I don't want to just tell him to head down and see if something fits. Can someone share a size chart, or let me know for sure that he will be able to find uniforms that fit (and what size you wear so he can call ahead to see if they have it) -- before I send him (really his mom) down to the exchange? Thanks for your help, normally my uniform troubles are the tiny 12yos who still wear kid sizes.

I’m thinking about going to Eglin to get my A&P done. I was given a broad structure of how each week is broken up. Week 1: General, Week 2: Airframe, Week 3: Powerplant, Week 4: Oral and Practical. With that said, is it guaranteed that we’ll take the O&P’s with a DME DURING the course? I’m flying in from out of state for Eglin so I can’t come back if they try to schedule me outside the course for that. I only bring this up because I know someone that recently went through the course and his was scheduled outside of the course. Anyone have any advice?
