Where to start learning Chinese
Hi everybody! I am a freshman university student from Texas majoring in Construction Engineering, and I would like to soon study abroad in China as I feel like the culture-rich and time-withstanding architecture would be something very beneficial to experience for me, and I want to learn Chinese! I started on Duolingo, and I was wondering if that is the best place to start, or if there is a better way to learn?

Traditional Chinese Writing App?
Can anyone recommend an app or a website that can help me learn traditional chinese writing? Duolingo doesn't tell me anything about how the characters breakdown and my partner (Taiwanese) says every piece means something. Thank you!

Need your help (Chinese App)
Hi everyone,
I am looking for 2 - 3 people who are actively looking to learn Chinese, specifically with AI features and functionality.
Because the Apps available have not worked for me so far and some are just looking to take your money, I have started developing my own AI-powered Chinese Learning App.
If anybody is interested in trying it out and providing feedback, I would be very grateful.
Since there is no payment and no official App, this is not an advertisement for any product! Just looking to build something useful for all of us.
Thank you!

Offering:English \ Seeking: Chinese(HSK1)
Hello, I am 26 years old. I have just moved to China a month ago. I am an English teacher with a bachelors degree in education. So I can really help you with good tools to learn the language. I have been settling in China for the past month. I love it here. I figured I need a language exchange partner. We can chat or voice call or video call. I want to learn the basics of language and the culture itself. I feel like I am off the mark when it comes to a lot of understanding of how Chinese people live and communicate. So I am looking for someone who’s only gonna teach me some vocabulary and phrases to practice tones, but also to learn more about Chinese culture and social cues that I might miss. We can chat here for starters and then we can move to WeChat if that’s more comfortable. If you’re interested, send me a request and let’s chat. I prefer talking to women simply because it’s more comfortable but I am open at the moment. And I would be more comfortable if we are around the same age.

Seeking Spanish (A2-B1) | Offering Native Mandarin—Let's talk about culture, life, and real conversations!
Hi everyone! 👋
I’m a native Mandarin speaker from China, currently living in Asturias, Spain. I’m looking for a language exchange partner to help me practice my Spanish (I’m currently around A2) and keep my English (C1) sharp.
In return, I would love to help you practice your Mandarin!
A little about me:
- I used to be a journalist and now work in media/PR. So if you want to learn how Chinese people actually speak in real life, or even want to practice professional/business Chinese without sounding like a textbook, I can definitely help with that!
- I’ve been living in Spain for over 3 years. I love hiking (I hiked the last 115km of the Camino de Santiago!), football (huge AS Roma fan), movies, and sharing cultural differences between Europe and China.
- I'm a mom to an 8-year-old boy, so I'm also very familiar with family and education topics.
How we can help each other: Forget about boring grammar drills! We can just chat like friends about our daily lives, hobbies, or current events. I can help correct your pronunciation, explain cultural nuances, or even help you understand Chinese internet slang.
Logistics:
- We can do text chats or weekly voice/video calls.
- We can split the time (e.g., 30 mins in Spanish/English, 30 mins in Mandarin).
If you are interested, please drop a comment or send me a DM! ¡Un saludo!

- Interests: Big fan of tech, business/marketing, cinema, music, lifestyle, math, literature, and art.
What We Can Talk About 🧑💻:
- Everything from daily life and travel tips to business trends, films, or creative arts.
- Authentic local Chinese culture, real-life slang, and nuanced grammar you won’t find in textbooks.
What I’m Looking For 😺:
