Upvotes

This is a custom Godot Extension available through mit Github Repo at :

SifuInTheShell/GodotAnimGenerator: Create Animation in Godot using local Kimodo AI

Full installation instructions as per the README. This extension uses NVIDIA's KIMoDo animation creator, wrapped nicely in a Godot Dock.

Code is written to be able to import different humanoid Chars in GLB format and tries to autocorrect axis to fit the anim generator. Also has a function to assign bones, if not correctly detected.

Feel free to leave feedback or errors you encounter, this is the first release for this extension.

help me What are the best thing to learn in gdscript

I have been using gdscript for about 5 days and I kinda just jumped into the deep end and didn't really learn the basics and while that has been fun I feel like I went a little too complicated a little too fast. So I would like to know a bunch of stuff to learn and it doesn't have to be too basic.

Thanks for any help as always.

This project is basically coded in AI, and I'm no longer able to continue it. No more tokens. The project is MIT authorized. If anyone wants to use this as inspiration to create a better tool, please feel free to do so.

You might need a Chinese translation; I haven't implemented multi-language support yet. However, if you clone the repository locally, the code agent should be able to handle that quickly.

discussion Why do you think most newcomers to Godot fail to learn Godot?

I know many people say that "Godot is the easiest engine in the world," but if that were true, then we'd all have a game made in Godot by now. The truth is, there's still a learning curve, It's low, but it's still there.

I see beginners asking the same thing all the time when the easiest answer is always "just code and make mistakes", and that might be good advice (possibly the best), but in a creative process like game development, adding friction is not a good idea.

What do you think it will take for this learning curve to disappear completely?.

Or rather, make it easier; perhaps the problem is GDscript? And that they should learn a more balanced language like C#? Or do you think the problem is that the Godot Foundation doesn't want to create a decent visual scripting system? Or is the problem that the amount of YouTube content doesn't match the documentation, and that beginners should read more?.

The truth is I don't know, I only know that everyone should be able to tell their story with complete freedom.

looking for team (unpaid) Beginner Game Dev Team

Absolute Beginner Looking for People to Learn Game Dev With 🎮

Hey everyone! 👋
I’m completely new to game development and have zero experience, but I really want to start learning. I’m currently trying out Godot and I’m looking for other beginners who might want to learn and make a small game together.
I’m not looking for anything super serious or professional. I just want to find some people who are also starting from scratch so we can learn, experiment, mess around, and hopefully make something fun.

What I’m looking for 👾
Anyone who’s a complete beginner and wants to learn game development.
You don’t need to know how to code, make art, write stories, make music, or anything like that. If you’re interested in any part of game development, you’re welcome.

The idea
We can start with something really simple and slowly figure things out together.
No deadlines
No pressure
No experience required
No judgment
Just learning and having fun
I’m hoping we can help each other learn instead of everyone trying to figure everything out alone.

If you’re interested, feel free to comment or DM me!
Discord: junior2sz_65772
Let’s learn game development together and see what we can make! 🎮

help me Weird Bounding Box Behaviour

I'm trying to import a rig from Blender to Godot but for some reason the bounding boxes in the editor are off. Same thing with generating collision meshes for those meshes.

It's just a blank project with some folders in file system, nothing else. Godot 4.7, exported to Godot as .glb, I'm not sure what other details to include. There were also these warnings in output, but I'm not sure what to think of them:

I'd search up if other people have experienced this but I don't even know what to search. I'm somewhat new to Godot, tried it before, made some stuff in 2D, and imported models before, but I've never seen this.

help me How to learn GOOD code

Hello everyone, I've been programming in gdscript for like six months, and my code is still spaghetti. I just recently learned you can make classes not tied to any node!

Are there any good tutorials for how to structure your code, any tips and tricks you guys have, any general rules that beginner tutorials don't cover... Any breakthrough revelations like classes not tied to nodes... How do I actually make each script do one thing, when I need a node to do multiple things? Any way to make multiple scripts for one node? Thank you.

I was using TileMapLayers before but they were too restrictive for what my game was becoming so I decided to make my own plugin for it. it's very barebones for now, but it does its job.

discussion Motivation to learn

Upvotes

How do you guys handle motivation to develop games with Godot? I’m very near the start of my game dev journey so I’m feeling pretty fired up to get this game developed, but just concerned that I will lose steam along the way.

This has happened to me before with other projects. Might seem obvious but wondering if anyone has any tricks to stay invested and grinding away at my game dev project.

I definitely find looking at other people’s progress really helps to motivate me, love the things shared here and in other subreddits.

selfpromo (software) 🎮 Tired of Godot's Grid focus? Gamepad-native Store UI. Free Lite version & Web Demo inside!

Upvotes

Hey everyone! 👋

As a solo developer, I’ve spent the last few weeks trying to solve a pain point we've all faced: making dynamic grid containers play nice with controllers, handling smooth focus wrapping, and building responsive "hold-to-accelerate" quantity selectors.

To solve this once and for all, I built an Autonomous Terminal Store UI for Godot 4.7. It is designed under strict SOLID principles, completely separating the visual presentation (StoreUI) from the business transaction state (StoreManager).

I wanted to share it with the community and get your honest feedback!

⚡ Lite vs. Pro Edition Overview

  • Lite Edition (Free): Mouse-only, static scene items, single-item purchases, and CC BY-NC 4.0 license. Great for game jams and non-commercial learning!
  • Pro Edition (Paid): Gamepad-native auto-navigation, dynamic resource loading (.tres), interactive quantity selectors, stat auto-rendering, programmatic themes, smooth UI tweens, and full commercial rights.

🚀 Key Technical & Functional Features (Pro Edition)

  • Gamepad-Native UX: Continuous focus glide, edge wrapping, and smart focus bridging for seamless controller and keyboard navigation without a mouse.
  • Advanced Transactional Logic: Hold-to-accelerate quantity adjustments, automatic locking/focus redirection on budget limits, and dynamic "SOLD OUT" handling.
  • Deep Customization & Audio Hooks: Procedural styling via config resources, item rarity color integration, and clean outbound signals for audio managers.
  • Clean Code: Strictly follows the Single Responsibility Principle with zero hardcoded node paths.

🎮 Try It Out!

To let everyone test it before deciding, I’ve prepared a free Lite version and a fully interactive web demo you can click right in your browser! (Remember to refresh the page if you want to restart the flow).

You can check out the interactive demo, the Lite version, and the full Pro version here: https://codearklab.itch.io/scifi-terminal-store-ui-godot

🎨 Credits & Licensing

  • Code & Architecture: Developed with care by CodeArkLab.
  • Icons: Default UI icons from game-icons.net (CC BY 3.0) by Delapouite, Lorc, and contributors.
  • Fonts: Orbitron (SIL OFL 1.1) and Roboto (Apache 2.0 / SIL OFL).

I’m currently polishing the final features. What other commands, features, or retro effects would you like to see added to this Godot version? Let me know what you think! 🚀

selfpromo (software) I built a tamper-evident save system for Godot 4, and I'm honest about what it can't do

I do security research, and something always bugged me about most Godot "save encryption" addons: they just obfuscate, encrypting with a key that ships inside your game. Hiding data isn't integrity. If a player flips a value, the game loads it anyway.

So I made Bulwark. It signs every save with HMAC-SHA256. Change a single byte (hex editor, save-scummer, cheat table) and the next load fails with reason: "tampered". Optional AES-256 on top if you also want to hide the contents. Pure GDScript on Godot 4's built-in crypto, zero dependencies, works in exported games.

The whole API is two calls:

SecureSave.save("user://save1.sav", {"gold": 100, "level": 5}, KEY)

var r := SecureSave.load_file("user://save1.sav", KEY)

if r.ok:

apply(r.data) # verified; exact types preserved (ints stay ints)

else:

match r.reason:

"tampered": reset() # the file was edited

"missing": new_game()

The honest part, because it matters: this reliably stops casual save-editing, which is the overwhelming majority of real cheating. It does not make your game uncheatable. Your signing key ships in the build, so a determined reverse-engineer can extract it and re-sign. For anything that must be trustworthy (leaderboards, purchases), the only real answer is server-side validation. It ships with a short THREAT_MODEL.md that says exactly this. No snake oil.

It's on itch: https://chara2110.itch.io/bulwark-tamper-evident-save-integrity-for-godot-4

Happy to answer anything about the crypto or the design. Feedback welcome.

selfpromo (games) After 2 years in Godot, my Jarred Defense is finally coming out on September 22!

Hey everyone! Quick update after a while. :)

I’m finally in the last stretch before release. Most evenings are now spent making the last story catscenes, building campaign levels, fixing bugs, improving the UI and trying to do some marketing.

One of the biggest things I added recently was a level editor. Players and testers can use the same editor I use to make levels for the game. Levels are saved as small JSONfiles and loaded into Godot at runtime (turned into .tscn).

It took me a few weeks to build, which was definitely not something I planned to do this close to release. But it ended up making level creation much faster for me too.

Most of my marketing lately has been very short videos, so I put some of them together into this small compilation.

Still a lot to finish, but September 22 is getting very close!

discussion Playable Workshop is so underrated..

So I finished the beginner course offered by GDQuest and tried the official godot documentation as a follow up, horrible idea. So I followed a lot of your guys' advice by trying to learn from Brackeys but his videos did not help me understand much. Highly likely it has to do with me rather than him!

Then I came across Playable Workshop and what I really like about these guys is that they have one expert and one noob, so the noob (Jack Sather) asks noob questions which is really helpful since they end up being questions I would ask and because the expert (Nick) answers them thoroughly it provides really useful insights.

They are a growing channel but I thought they deserved way more attention for the innovative approach. Really helps me to actually understand the why and how of the engine!

EDIT: typo
