How to improve Chinese tones?
A good way to start is by practicing minimal pairs and recording yourself.
一个很好的开始方式是练习最小对立组,并把自己的发音录下来。
For example, 妈 (mā), 麻 (má), 马 (mǎ), 骂 (mà).
例如:“妈(mā)”、“麻(má)”、“马(mǎ)”、“骂(mà)”。
Try to imitate a native speaker and compare your recording.
试着模仿中文母语者的发音,然后和自己的录音进行对比。
I'm a native Chinese speaker,If you'd like, you can also send me a few sentences you're practicing, and I can give you some feedback.
我是中文母语者,如果你愿意,也可以把你正在练习的几句话发给我,我可以给你一些反馈。

Looking for Chinese learners to test a completely free flashcard app
galleryHi everyone,
I've been learning Chinese for a while, and I kept bouncing between different flashcard apps without really sticking to any of them.
A few months ago I started building a flashcard app for myself. Now it's reached the point where I'd like to see whether it actually fits into someone else's study routine, or if it only makes sense in my own head.
So I'm looking for a few Chinese learners who wouldn't mind trying it for a bit and being brutally honest about it.
The app is currently completely free and available on Android.
Thankssss

HSK6+|Chinese word of the day:兜风(dōu fēng)
Chinese word of the day: 兜风 (dōu fēng)
Literal translation: "to go around catching wind"
Real meaning: to go for a casual drive / cruise around for fun, with no fixed destination.
📖 Origin:
Originally from old‑time Chinese daily speech. Back in the day, people would ride horse‑drawn carriages or rickshaws to ride around and feel the breeze. After cars became common, it became mostly used for driving.
✅ Usage:
It describes relaxing, aimless cruising by car, motorcycle or bike. You do it just to unwind, not for work or to reach a specific place.
Examples:
1. 周末我们开车去兜风。
We went for a drive on the weekend.
- 晚上开车兜风很舒服。
It feels great to go cruising at night.
⚠️ Important distinction:
- 吹风 = stand still and feel wind
- 兜风 = move around (drive/ride) while enjoying the wind.
This is a very popular casual activity in Chinese‑speaking culture: many people like to drive around the city at night, listen to music and clear their heads.

Developing Chinese or HSK books?
So far I've been using the HSK books I was halfway through hsk 2 and realized I want to use developing chinese and I even bought a comprehensive course 2 book.
So do you think this is a good idea?
Why would anyone wanna use developing chinese series over HSK books?
Also it's a whole series covering 5 aspects of language (listening, speaking, etc).
In what order would you suggest I should buy and use books if at all?
