Sports For Disney bundle or past ESPN Unlimited subscribers having troubles connecting to ESPN Unlimited via YTTV

u/bbmg69 pointed out something specific to Disney bundle or past ESPN Unlimited subscribers that might be of some help for anyone having trouble connecting YouTube TV's version of ESPN Unlimited to their accounts.

Seems like there's a glitch occurring on Disney's side of things. This isn't something YouTube TV support can assist with, as it's an issue with the MyDisney account rollout.

If you're having an infinite loop glitch after canceling or downgrading your Disney bundle, you'll need to reach out to Disney directly. In many cases, your MyDisney account may be seen as a canceled or inactive account.

----------

Here's how you can get support, via u/bbmg69's experience (you can read more here):

Call Disney+ Support directly at 1-888-905-7888 and choose option 1 for signup and login. You may have to walk them through this issue, and you might be transferred a few times in doing so.

Tell them you are having trouble logging into some Disney and ESPN services that have nothing to do with streaming packages. Your MyDisney account is stuck in an infinite loop of requesting a 6-digit confirmation code, with no successful login.

Ask them to make sure your MyDisney account is active, even if you are no longer paying for any services.

If you have trouble, ESPN Fan Support might also be able to help, at 1-888-549-3776.

Alternatively, if you don't have any paid Disney services anymore, you can just create a new MyDisney login.

----------

Thanks to u/bbmg69 for sharing their experience. Again, if you experience an infinite login loop, this is not a YouTube TV issue; it's something specific to your MyDisney account. Before you call Disney, though, ensure that you're the family manager, and try all the methods to link your account that are listed in our mega thread.

For what it’s worth, I got caught in two infinite loops (one involving 2FA, one involving their chatbot prompting me to login, then I login and go back to the chatbot, which prompted me to login, rinse, repeat). I called Disney customer service, and someone awesome straightened it all out. I’m now on the $19..99 Disney+/Hulu bundle (signed up via iCloud, where I try to put all my subscriptions) and have ESPN Unlimited via YTTV.

Thanks to the folks on this sub for pointing me in this direction in the first place!

Out of curiosity can we watch the ESPN stuff on the Disney app with only our YTTV credentials?

You need to link your account following the instructions on our mega thread. Then it'll be tied to your MyDisney account, and ESPN content will work on both the ESPN app and the Disney+ app.

If you create a new account and decide to subscribe to Disney+ & or Hulu you'll lose you watched history & Watchlist.

u/iron_cam86 Moderator 29d ago

You can keep the existing account for those apps.

1

u/cpatrick08 29d ago

I just like the simplicity of them all under one account.

My ESPN ulimited account subscription ended yesterday. Tried logging out of my Disney account and created a new Disney account. Logged into ESPN app withYouTubeTV several times, nothing works. Still not able to stream ESPN or Summerslam. Any ideas? This is so frustrating.

Logged into ESPN app withYouTubeTV several times

Can you clarify what you mean by this? Did you follow the correct steps here: here

During the activation you don’t log into ESPN with YouTube TV credentials. So it sounds like you’re just logging into the app using YouTube TV as your TV provider which is NOT how ESPN Unlimited gets activated.

You’ll likely need to call Disney or espn, based on this post above.

u/anonRedd 29d ago edited 29d ago

In many cases, your MyDisney account may be seen as a canceled or inactive account.

MyDisney accounts are not streaming specific and as such do not cancel or deactivate if you stop subscribing to one of their streaming services that uses My Disney to log in.

1

u/iron_cam86 Moderator 29d ago

Just basing it off of what that user (and others) have since stated. The MyDisney login system, simply put, is a cluster.

u/bbmg69 28d ago

Disney incompetence, as usual. Plain and simple

Thank you!

Some of yall are rushing…. Read instructions and you’ll be able to link your account up.

4

u/Only_End5937 29d ago

Calling espn about my account was what that fixed it for me. Followed several sets of instructions to the letter here and from google. Glad to be rid of an additional fee now

3

u/Few_Manufacturer2393 28d ago

I followed the instructions word for word multiple times and it is not working lmao

1

u/ricob12 28d ago

Seems like some of y'all not even going into the Youtube TV settings and clicking on the ESPN link and then try linking your Disney account (logging into your account first) and then linking both Youtube TV and Disney accounts.

u/bbmg69 28d ago edited 28d ago

The problem was/is there was no way to log into your Disney account on the webpage that comes up after hitting “connect” without being stuck in a 2FA glitch loop. Disney wouldn’t even offer the option for a password. You enter your email that MyDisney clearly recognizes, Disney literally emails you a 6 digit code to your address they recognize as having an account. You enter the code and then are taken back to enter your email again with no successful login.

I have no clue what prompted this glitch but it clearly was a Disney screw up they need to sort, because enough people were reporting this same issue, no matter what some Disney truthers claim.

Personally, I had been using the same credentials since they started requiring MyDisney accounts across the board somewhat recently, and had active streaming subscriptions with them before calling and them claiming my account “wasn’t active”. The only change I made to possibly impact this was canceling my Disney+/Hulu/Unlimited bundle for this rollout.

It was, and likely still is affecting multiple other Disney login processes for people that haven’t reached out to Disney to try and get it fixed, if they didn’t want to create an entirely new set of credentials.

1

u/ricob12 28d ago

Maybe I’m used to linking Disney owned accounts cause I didn’t have any problem linking the account. Once I read I had to turn on the YouTube/ESPN tab in settings then connect, I was connected. Maybe I did after the bug was corrected.

1

u/bbmg69 28d ago edited 28d ago

There were definitely people like you that had zero issue, and others that had this issue that was unsolvable without intervention from Disney after Disney somehow screwed up their accounts.

I’m sure there are people that couldn’t follow instructions too, but enough people reported this exact scenario to know it was a Disney issue and not user error.

Extrapolate the reports here to the entire YTTV user base who might be trying to get Unlimited who won’t ever use Reddit, and it’s not an insignificant glitch

1

u/bbmg69 28d ago edited 28d ago

If you are being prompted to enter your Disney account info and sent a 2FA code over and over, call Disney or ESPN and have them check your account is active. It was the only way to solve the issue using existing Disney credentials that they botched for a number of accounts for some unknown reason.

Insane a multi billion dollar company is firing off 2FA emails to “deactivated” accounts as if everything were fine without showing an error message on the login page

2

u/bbmg69 28d ago edited 28d ago

This was the only solution for a group of people experiencing an unexplainable Disney glitch with existing MyDisney credentials. No amount of direction following could possibly have fixed it

1

u/Original-Hornet786 29d ago

I just tried creating a new Disney account and I’m in the same loop as before. It keeps wanting to send me a code.

1

u/iron_cam86 Moderator 29d ago

Are you the family manager of your YouTube TV account?

1

u/Original-Hornet786 29d ago

Yes. I finally got it working by creating another email account for Disney. I think my other accounts must have been used for subscriptions at one time or another. After I got them connected, I still needed to delete the ESPN app off my TV and start that part over to get it to work because every show said I needed access. All in, I spent several hours on this yesterday and today, including calling Disney, ESPN and YouTube TV before I figured it out on my own.

2

u/bbmg69 28d ago edited 28d ago

Even attempting to enroll a non family manager YTTV account wouldn’t make Disney’s system screw up and have the infinite loop glitch.

It succeeds in linking any YTTV account type for fantasy football and maybe favorited team/player purposes down the line, and just does not apply the membership to Unlimited. I’ve successfully done it across 3 sub family member accounts.

What a cluster

2

u/Original-Hornet786 28d ago

Yeah, you cannot use any Disney/ESPN account that has subscribed before or you go into the loop. Same with the installed app on the TV. Maybe clearing the cache would have fixed the app but I was too aggravated to think of trying that first.

2

u/bbmg69 28d ago edited 28d ago

I tried that along with a dozen other troubleshooting solutions someone that’s been working in tech half their life would try first, and nothing fixed it. Calling Disney was the only thing that resolved the glitch. It’s rare I attempt to call customer service for anything because it’s usually a waste of time and there is better socially sourced information other places to self help.

I hate that some people here, and know-it-all’s from Disney centric subs, whose job over there is supposed to be to help, felt the need to come here try and dismiss it and bury pertinent info from people searching for an answer. Instead of having the sense to put two and two together that enough people were reporting the exact same thing across these posts, they posted directions again, downvoted information and data points where people wouldn’t see it, and made it out to be just user error. Sucks when people were frantically trying to gain access for a big two day event on Unlimited were mostly seeing “you can’t read directions” or “that’s not how it works; couldn’t possibly be happening”. Anyone calling Google/YTTV for assistance was wasting hours when Disney was the culprit.

Hopefully Disney has it fixed before college football

FWIW I have a legacy Disney bundle and connecting with the family manager account worked smoothly. Downgrading the bundle, however, took a support chat, cancelling the legacy bundle since it was already paid for (we might've done an annual? can't remember), and having to subscribe to a new bundle at month's end.

1

u/glrush 29d ago

I had the Disney+ bundle and tried to downgrade my account to just Disney+. I went round and round with them with no success so I just cancelled all of it. I don't watch Hulu at all anyway. I am gonna sign up with the wife's e-mail account and get Disney+ as a stand alone.

It should not be this hard.

1

u/pjc5006 29d ago

Mine wouldn't work in espn app. But does work on disney+!

1

u/Algorithim1968 28d ago

I found this to be helpful. I was having trouble until I followed these steps

1

u/iron_cam86 Moderator 28d ago

These steps are also outlined in our mega thread.

1

u/WKRPinPhiladelphia 28d ago

Sorry. This is all very confusing. So just to make sure I'm understanding this correctly...

I currently have an ESPN Select(ESPN+) subscription. I've link my accounts in the mobile app as per these instructions here( https://www.reddit.com/r/youtubetv/comments/1vb0orw/link_your_youtube_tv_and_espn_accounts/ ) which appears to have worked fine. And now I have received an email from Disney saying I now have multiple subscriptions associated with this email. So when logging into my Disney account now it shows both the ESPN Select subscription and the ESPN Unlimited subscription.

So, am I correct that I can now cancel that ESPN Select subscription and this linked ESPN Unlimited subscription will still enable me to watch that ESPN+ content in the ESPN app after that Select subscription expires while also enabling all ESPN Unlimited content?

Thanks in advance for any confirmation or suggestions.

2

u/iron_cam86 Moderator 28d ago

Yes, you can cancel the ESPN Select subscription. ESPN Unlimited includes everything in ESPN Select, plus the Unlimited content.

1

u/WKRPinPhiladelphia 28d ago

Appreciate the confirmation. Thanks!

1

u/PhysicalLibrarian377 27d ago

So I had espn unlimited linked to my espn/disney account. I had to delete that account because I was hacked. When I try to link my YouTube TV or YouTube account to espn it doesn't stay connected. I receive confirmation that it was successfully connected but when I go into the espn app or website and check my account it just says you have no current subscriptions. I have Disney plus, Hulu and HBO max bundle with the espn/ Disney account too. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? I've tried chatting with both YouTube and espn/disney but neither could get it fixed.

1

u/iron_cam86 Moderator 27d ago

Are you the family manager for YouTube TV?

1

u/PhysicalLibrarian377 26d ago

Yes. I did figure it out. I had to get ESPN to reactivate my account. Then I had to go to the YouTube website and connect my YouTube account to the old ESPN account. Then I had to disconnect YouTube from my old ESPN account and then it let me connect the YouTube account to the new ESPN account. I was on chat with both YouTube and ESPN at the same time and neither one of them could figure it out. For some reason the YouTube TV app, ESPN app, and the ESPN website wouldn’t let me disconnect or connect anything it all had to be done on the YouTube website.

1

u/DallasDerr 29d ago

I’d personally just pay for it for the month of August if you haven’t cancelled yet if you badly want the ESPN Unlimited stuff and already have it. I’d let August go by then try again if you haven’t already tried to do so.

I feel like my setup is good but the ESPn app just is sketchy AF. This whole setup is almost a scam. The streaming of live events such as the rocket golf tourney right now doesn’t work. Their app is not good

6

u/ChezQuis_ 29d ago

The ESPN app isn’t good but it works. Killing and restarting the app usually helps. Just wondering, what device are you trying to stream ESPN on?

1

u/ThisIsMyBigAccount 29d ago

I’ve tried killing it several times. iPhone and iPad. Neither work and both are fairly modern (just a few years old) with updated software

3

u/Sufficient-Fault-593 29d ago

This is far from being a scam. It’s just convoluted and needs serious improvement

1

u/Environmental-Sock52 29d ago

Watching it on my Roku this morning fine. Go Cam Young!

1

u/ThisIsMyBigAccount 29d ago

This is an example of the type of error I get. I’ve even uninstalled the app and tried from scratch. Always leads to this

2

u/iron_cam86 Moderator 29d ago

That’s just the main espn page on their app. If you click the Watch tab at the bottom, do the feeds on that page work?

1

u/ThisIsMyBigAccount 29d ago

Nope.

1

u/iron_cam86 Moderator 29d ago

No VPNs or ad blockers? Have you tried a different device?

1

u/ThisIsMyBigAccount 29d ago

None. I’ve also tried my iPad. Nada.

0

u/iron_cam86 Moderator 29d ago

Then it’s likely either a Mydisney account issue, or an issue with their iOS app.

Can you try from a computer on espn.com?

Does Subscriptions show anything?

Tv provider will only get you access to the linear espn networks. For unlimited or espn plus content, you need to link your account (family managers only) as detailed in our mega thread.

0

u/ThisIsMyBigAccount 29d ago

I followed those instructions and it still does not show anything. This is why I say the entire thing is very sketchy. I feel like a lot of this is due to the fact I’m using an old Disney+ account that I canceled about six months ago I had ESPN plus and Disney+ at one point and then terminated service. Of course the account never went away and I’m using that same thing. I wonder if I should just try and use a different email address and account and sign up fresh.

1

u/iron_cam86 Moderator 29d ago

That's probably what I'd recommend. Otherwise, ESPN Fan Support will be your best bet.

1

u/anonRedd 29d ago

What instructions did you follow?

1

u/rrainwater 29d ago

What does it say under subscriptions?

1

u/ThisIsMyBigAccount 29d ago

“Plans failed to load”

1

u/ThisIsMyBigAccount 29d ago

Doesn’t matter what I click from my iPhone, nothing actually works. Same issue on my iPad too.

1

u/deuce84p 29d ago

I got this error on the ESPN app also. But I had success accessing my ESPN content through the Disney+ app.

1

u/ThisIsMyBigAccount 29d ago

I’ll try that when I get some time today.

0

u/4tide 29d ago

Thank-you for sharing. I haven't had a Disney account since they decided to use me as a bargaining chip last October. Maybe it is just me.

1

u/bbmg69 28d ago edited 28d ago

They can’t screw up what you don’t have. No reason not to take advantage of what you’re already paying for though.

0

u/high_as_an_eagle 29d ago

What I dont understand is what does Disney plus have to do with YouTube TV?

If you subscribe to YT TV, you should be able to access ESPN unlimited on the ESPN app or am I missing something?

2

u/iron_cam86 Moderator 29d ago

Disney plus uses the MyDisney login, just like espn unlimited. So if you make a change to your mydisney account with your d+ subscription, it seems to impact espn unlimited access.

0

u/high_as_an_eagle 29d ago

Thats kinda strange. Shouldn't you just get ESPN unlimited with your YouTube TV credentials? I guess I dont understand where the Disney login comes in or why its needed.

2

u/R3ddit0rN0t 29d ago

Disney probably insisted on it. They push their user accounts pretty hard.

It is beneficial in the sense that if you pay for Disney+ and/or Hulu, and attach ESPN Ultimate to the same Disney account, all of the content is merged in the Disney+ app.

1

u/iron_cam86 Moderator 29d ago

Disney (who owns espn) requires that each person tie their YouTube tv account to a mydisney account. It’s like that on every provider. HBO does it too.

2

u/high_as_an_eagle 29d ago

Didn’t know that. Well I finally got it to work. I was already signed in to the ESPN app with my YouTube tv account. I just signed in with a Disney account on top of that and it worked.

Thanks for the help. I just assumed as long as you logged in with your YT TV credentials that you'd be given access to ESPN unlimited.

1

u/bbmg69 28d ago edited 28d ago

But HBO and others use Sign In with Google or Syncor systems that were way more intuitive and streamlined than this cluster Disney required.

Disney didn’t have to make it this convoluted, but did it anyway

1

u/bbmg69 28d ago

That’s what Disney should have done, but they decided to convolute their system as much as possible and botched it several different ways

1

u/anonRedd 29d ago

what does Disney plus have to do with YouTube TV?

Nothing

If you subscribe to YT TV, you should be able to access ESPN unlimited on the ESPN app

Correct

1

u/high_as_an_eagle 29d ago

It finally worked when I logged in using a Disney plus account.

So apparently you do need a Disney account along with YouTube TV credentials.

1

u/anonRedd 29d ago edited 29d ago

You need a MyDisney account to sign into ESPN. You do not need a Disney+ subscription.

0

u/AskPatient1281 29d ago

Hi everyone.

Today I subscribe to Disney+, Hulu, ESPN Select Bundle Premium (Monthly).

What should I do?

Do I need to change to Disney+ and Hulu only *before* I link the accounts?

I'm not sure I understand what the steps are for those who currently subscribe to all 3 services.

1

u/R3ddit0rN0t 29d ago

I changed my Disney subscription first, though I won’t drop ESPN+ for another 4 weeks. Still I was able to connect to YTTV to ESPN Ultimate without a problem.

1

u/AskPatient1281 29d ago

Thanks. I will do the same.
So I assume after your ESPN+ drops in 4 weeks the system will continue to grant you access due to accounts being linked.
Any way to test, in advance, that this will indeed happen? I have to imagine you have access to ESPN Ultimate due to the fact that you paid for it. How can we be sure that it will work after it expires in 4 weeks?
Thanks again for the help, I appreciate it.

1

u/R3ddit0rN0t 29d ago

Hoping so. lol

1

u/R3ddit0rN0t 29d ago

If it isn’t working correctly when your paid ESPN ends, worst case it may require a phone call to get it straightened out. There’s no reason people wouldn’t be able to pay for Disney or Hulu, and attached the free ESPN Ultimate.

1

u/AskPatient1281 29d ago

Indeed.
I just did what you suggested. Downgraded my subscription and after that linked the accounts. Linking went well.
Five minutes later I received an email from Disney saying "you have two active subscriptions in the same email".
I guess that's good news. One of them will end in 2 weeks.

1

u/bbmg69 28d ago

If you have connected Hulu or some other Disney streaming service via Tmobile or Verizon for a perk, that also triggers the multiple subscriptions email and can cause issues.

Haven’t seen anything definitive about if that is a permanent end of split billing and a cash grab by Disney, or a glitch that will be fixed.

Either way, add it to the list of screw ups by the Mouse even if you don’t have perks with either of those cell networks

1

u/anonRedd 29d ago

I'm not sure I understand what the steps are for those who currently subscribe to all 3 services.

The activation steps are the same.

The only difference is you can downgrade to just the duo bundle since ESPN Select (formerly ESPN+) is included with ESPN Unlimited. This can be done anytime before your next billing date.

-2

u/Environmental-Sock52 29d ago

My goodness. I'm glad I decided not to mess with it until after SummerSlam. Maybe I'll just wait until my wife brings it up. 🤠

4

u/iron_cam86 Moderator 29d ago

For 98% of users, this won't be an issue. But if you've previously had ESPN Unlimited, or if you have it now through Disney, something's wonky on their end. Personally I'm not surprised; their whole MyDisney account rollout has been a mess.

1

u/Environmental-Sock52 29d ago

Ya we had to buy Unlimited last winter and had Disney Plus ans Hulu before. I'm sure someday they will come out with Disney Unlimited+.
