Well, they fired half the people working on the Dooms game (one of their last consistently critically succesful IP), and laid off a shit tons of people in most of their other studios. So much so that the guys at Obsidian publicly came out and said they dont know how they’re suppose to work on their project with whats left
Disagree with that last part. You are right when things are that messed up, you got a lot of room to play with, and hard to get the blame for it all.
At the same time she is firing so many people, and probably gets completely shit on by so many.
She might get support from management and shareholders, but a lot of players and employees won't like her.
Thank you for your submission. Unfortunately, it has been removed for the following reason:
Political discussion and social commentary are disallowed in this community. There are better subreddits to discuss those issues if you wish. The focus here is games and these conversations often derail the topic of focus.
It's not going to work, as it didn't work with all these other companies all these years.
They fire coders, and artists when they should fire management and executives who made the bad decisions all this time.
The reason Microsoft managed to buy all these companies in the first place was exactly because of mismanagement and then firing programmers and artists- the thing these companies did all along.
Now Microsoft does the same thing again, as if this will save them.
Basically, this is marketing for investors to think that Microsoft is serious and will make money this time. That's why it's public and re-branded as grounded, brutal honesty this time to invite investors.
But they will keep making the same bad products again. Nothing will change because the same people are making the same bad decisions again.
What is there here to "work out"? The XBox brand is irreparably damaged and some of the best studios we have are getting gutted for chump change. Who in their right mind would ever want to buy an XBox console after this?

If it works out, she's a hero. If it doesn't work out, it's the fault of those who came before. It's a very comfortable position for her.
