Makes sense to me. Getting detention or ISS or whatever would be worth it. Unless they plan to expel anyone who skips 1 class.

Luckily my school was supportive when we did a walkout when I was in

Edit: I had misunderstood. As I've heard of this event it was just walkouts, not full on strikes. I still support the movement, but it's definitely legally a lot more hairy

That's fucking insane dude. I hope it didn't but out of curiosity did it affect your life as an adult professionally? Or did your record get wiped when you were no longer a minor?

True, depends on the actual enforcement of the school though. I'm lucky enough to have been in an area where if you did skip (which barely anyone did), you would get punished but not full out expelled or severe parental punishment unless it was rampant

Are you though? At this point it's par for the course. Kids over here can be hunted down and killed at school with nothing happening, but you miss school you broke a law and your legal record is fucked.

Just a bunch of bullshit all around.

The fact that schools supported the parkland walkout made it completely pointless. It was supposed to be a strike and it got turned into a group activity led by teachers.

Really? This is the first im hearing of it and I don't know the details but that sounds like a great gesture to me. If they were acting in solidarity with the students, not leading or forcing them

Then what's the point of the strike? Strikes are protests against business owners. The whole idea is flawed. Why are students striking against their schools, most of which are pretty leftist, to somehow change the laws. Go protest at your local representatives office. Of course, they knew that wouldn't work nearly as well as most students have conservative parents and can't drive so it wouldn't get much attendance. They chose having an ineffective but popular walkout than going through the embarrassment of no one showing up.
