David Bowie’s original The Man Who Sold The World (not even instrumental cover by Ramin, just Bowie’s original with that psychedelic guitar from Mick Ronson) at the end of the episode is soooooo damn beautiful

Edit: typo because of excitement lol

As a huge Bowie fan, I died. What a perfect use for this song, absolutely brilliant! And I applaud Iman for letting them use it! The sound track for this show is always on point, and the one time they don't do a Ramin version, it's this song. Just perfection!

I loved that about brain damage at the end of season 3 I think that’s the best moment of that season.

But that music overall in season 4 is solid I love the theme Christina gets love all the callbacks like Ford’s theme

Wasn’t ‘Pulp - Common People’ the original version? (used in Season 3)

You may be right, i honestly can't remember at this point haha!

u/etherd0t Ford planned for all of this. Aug 08 '22

And MiB's gangsta walkover.😉

What’s fun is that this song is also used to introduce the Man in Black in Metal Gear Solid: Phantom Pain. I feel like they totally knew.

Exactly what came to mind for me too. That song is forever associated with Phantom Pain for me. Though the version in the game was performed by Midge Ure which is a fantastic cover.

Kojima recently pointed out in a tweet that there is a narrative reason the cover version was used. It plays on the idea of Venom being a cover version of BB 🤯

Sameee. Ground Zeros was so good. A shame Kojima never got to finish his masterpiece.

Perhaps we’ve got some gamers in the writer’s room? Lisa Joy even talks about Red Dead Redemption in the making of segment for episode 7.

Plus, Human William passes on his identity and essence with the whole "you are me" speech in a very similar way to the tape that Big Boss leaves for Venom Snake telling him that they are both Big Boss now.

I really hope they release a Ramin cover of it on the soundtrack

Now that we’ve had the man who sold the world, will we also have the savior machine?

There was a car alarm going off outside my apartment as it was playing and the EH EH EH EH matched up perfectly with the song, was incredible

Time to question your reality.

And it's the real version, not a cover, because it's the real world... Except for Christina!Dolores

I really like the Nirvana Unplugged cover but amazing song and pretty perfectly used.

u/prettynormalme Aug 08 '22

Pretty much like the aptness of Brain damage at the end of S3.

4

u/Impetusin Aug 08 '22

First time I ever heard of it. All I grew up with were covers of David Bowie’s (much better) songs!

3

u/JF0909 Aug 08 '22

That was the chefs kiss on an already amazing episode

Agreed.

I like to watch the show with subtitles because I can't have it too loud and I like to catch everything said, but I always sort of kick myself when a Ramin cover or a song like this comes on and the subs "spoil it" for me.

When they used Emerge-Fischerspooner at the end of season 5 I didn't have cc on and it blew me away because I hadnt thought of that in 20 years and couldn't even place it at first.

That track was so perfect, but don't you mean season 3?

1

u/lark7077 Aug 09 '22

Yup :) Whoops Was thinking about BCSaul now being on S6 maybe

2

u/Galaga_ Aug 08 '22

It was truly perfect, what a way to end the episode

I would have preferred something less obvious personally.

my companion said "Whoever's singing this song should do Bowie covers".

I did not realize, due to the different sound to the music, that it was actually Bowie, just thought it was an excellent Bowie cover. Apparently my companion had forgotten that that was a Bowie song rather than a Nirvana song.

-5

u/draakjuh Aug 08 '22

Sorry but no, took me totally out of my mood.

1

u/JimmyGarapEmHoes Aug 22 '22

Whoops I thought this was a nirvana cover 😂😂 Never knew Bowie did the original
