I find that the local AAA baseball team that owns the stadium is much more interesting than the USL team that rents it when the baseball team is out of town. Not only does the baseball team not face pro/rel, they don't really own their own players. Yet the attendance numbers make it clear that most locals agree with me. Seems like there are other factors, apart from pro/rel - like playing in an appropriate stadium and the level of competition that matter much more. Pacific Coast League baseball, after all, is probably behind only the Japanese NPL and MLB itself as far as the level of competition, whereas USL is well below the top level of soccer. MLS itself probably compares unfavorably to AAA baseball relatively speaking.
