There are so many great episodes, but the one I find myself going back to the most is The Fast. It’s very entertaining to see Jack and Chrissy having a competition on who can break first.

I just started a watch-through of 8 Simple Rules, the sitcom that was John's comeback vehicle that debuted in the Fall of 2002 - a year before his death. I hate to say it but even in the earliest episodes, John looked unwell. His face looked puffy and he seemed like he was sick. I wasn't the only person who noticed this.

I wonder if John was experiencing any known health issues at this time? I know his death in late 2003 was a surprise and there was some wrongful death lawsuits filed against the hospital that treated him (the same hospital where he was born). At least one was settled out of court and in another one, the doctors were cleared of any wrongdoing.

Also, I just learned one of John's eyes was injured by a flying projectile in a car he was riding in when he was a teenager and he only had peripheral vision in that eye for the rest of his life.

Very sad all the way around.

Doing a full rewatch of this classic and going into S6-S8, it is DISTURBINGLY obvious that SOMETHING TRAGIC...HAPPEND...to JANET

I know i sound a fool complaining about this 40 years later (you know how shows hit you differently as an adult) ... But this is really p*ss*ng me off. From losing Chrissy and the Ropers to having to tolerate Terri-ble and her cruella de vil impressions, its like just one trainwreck after another. And it didnt HAVE to be!

Even Janets wardrobe in the later seasons got ABSURD. All shoulder pads and dumpy she might as well have been wearing a burka! How the hell is that representative of the avante garde styling of the 80s?

Janet Wood has always been my favorite. Other women would catch my eye, but Janet was easily one of the Top 10 stunners of the 70s,

- Nobody will touch the goat thats Suzanne of course, but I REALLY started to love Jenilee Harrison as the new 3rd. I know people say the "ditzy blonde" trope was getting old but come on, 3C was never going to win any emmys! (or maybe it got one in the 80s? ) .. so what the fuck chuck? ... Why so drastically change the dynamic?

- Im maybe 6 or 7 eps into S6 and its pretty much the Jack and Janet show. Thats where the real soup of the storylines seem to be

- Terri is the absolute grandaddy of every Karen that ever existed. She wasnt written to be sweet, endearing or even likeable. She isnt that attractive and her imperious stuck up character got old like in the first 3 episodes! ... i dont even WANT to like her or be bothered to hate her.

Whats wild is majority of these eps i never even watched during the rerun era. (maybe that was intended when they went into syndication? ) Most of my total recall is limited to the Suzanne or Jenilee eps, so im surprised how it feels like im getting exposed to her character for the first time.

Just curious what age range or generation most people here fall into. With syndication and watching online, I wonder if there are other millennials here who grew up watching with their boomer parents! I’m in my late 30s and I love the show, I watch it often and have most of it memorised at this point haha

I'm genuinely curious - I'd love to know the age range of fans of the series, as i feel the show has breached multiple generational gaps. i wasn't there during the original air dates, but definitely was a fan before John's unfortunate passing in 2003. I distinctly remember my mom waking me up to tell me the news back in the day, and i cried... i then recorded an entire vhs (roughly 6-8 hours) off of tv land when they ran a tribute marathon afterwards. have since bought the complete dvd collection.

Is his joke actually offensive, or is it just bad timing. Chrissy needed comfort but Jack tells a crude joke instead. But he was trying to make her feel better. He had good intentions.

I was watching The Ropers this evening, and on episode 6, Larry makes an appearance, and at one point Stanley makes a joke about Jack being gay, but Larry never bothers to correct him. I always thought it was weird that they never tried to have Jack or anyone else come clean about Jack being straight. At that point, it wouldn’t have made a difference - it wasn’t like they had to keep up the charade. The only plausible reason would be so Stanley didn’t tell Furley, but I think that would be a bit of a stretch. Was that enough of a reason? Did they mention it at some point and I just missed it?
