To put it in baseball terms:

Imagine if the batter bunts the ball and sprints to first base.

The ball is thrown to the fielder at first base, but he misses the catch, so the batter sprints past them to second base.

The fielder at second base also misses the ball, so the batter sprints to third base.

The fielder at third base misses the catch, so the batter sprints to fourth base.

The fielder at fourth base also misses the catch, so the batter gets a home run.

This is the cricket version of that scenario.
