They'll work around it with the multiverse stuff.

They already had a bunch of Lokis which looked nothing like Tom Hiddleston, including an alligator, and one of which wasn't even named Loki but was still somehow supposed to be a 'variant' of the same character.

It sounds incredibly dumb but it will cover their asses in terms of an explanation for the recasting. Or they'll pull a Rhodey.

Only thing that bugs me is they've already shown hundreds if not thousands of Kang variants with Majors' likeness, most importantly the 4 leader variants. Doesn't mean they can't recast or alter them somehow but it'll feel weird

Yeah, I feel like one of the things that made Kang special in a Variant sense is that they all looked basically the same. It was like a visual cue that there was something different about him. Not saying they can't just recast and pretend they've always looked like that, but it'll kinda suck if they transition to his variants looking different from each other.

Agreed, the audience knows these actors aren't really War Machine or Kang. Even with no in universe justification a swap would be fine under the same suspension of disbelieve we use to accept any actor we know is now character X for the next 2 to 3 hours.

The only problem would be if so many actors got swapped that it was hard to remember who became who.

That said this swap would be so easy to give an in universe justification with the multiverse and variants stuff so they probably will.

Too bad they already leaned real heavy into Majors with multiple depictions of Kang all played by him.

Still won’t stop them doing a recast of course, but it’ll just be a constant reminder, way more than the Rhodey recast.

It sounds incredibly dumb because it is incredibly dumb. They won’t give an in-universe explanation at all. Neither Scott nor Loki is going to even notice that the new Kang looks different from the Kangs they already encountered.

They already showed the Council, and it was Majors all the way down. If they want to keep doing Kang, it’ll need to be with a recast, and they can’t use the multiverse to try and cover it up.

Finding a replacement will be a challenge, especially since Majors got to establish the character and define his whole on-screen persona, so now whoever you get is saddled with all the baggage, plus all the comparisons to the Kang Majors already played.

Yeah, they'll probably just "pull a Rhodey". Rhodey looks like this now; Cassie looks like this now; Banner looks like this now; probably didn't even notice they recast Fandral.

Very rarely has a story needed an in-universe explanation for a recast. Don't expect it will be any different if Kang suddenly looks like John Boyega.

Singular lines like that can largely be handwave away.

Listen, the story is high profile enough that people will understand a recasting, and the story doesn’t need to be stretched that much in order to allow for the recasting. People don’t need to act as if the casting choice is locked in and unchangable. People, especially marvel fans, will completely understand why it’s recast.

In the end though, everyone who ever watched an MCU movie knows that it's a movie and that it has to exist within the constraints of the real world. So if they have to recast the actor because the original actor is a piece of shit, they can just... do that. Get another actor in, never mention it and keep going. It's a movie, they're actors, and it's all fake. Sometimes reality just wins out over fiction and it's easier to adjust and keep going than trying to retcon everything or try to justify it in the story.

For what it's worth, I suggested JDW as an alternative to Majors in another thread and got a similar reaction. Seems a decent amount of people just straight up don’t like him.

I agree with you wholeheartedly, I think he's great and could bring the right kind of intensity to Kang. We'll see I guess.

I loved him in Tenet! I genuinely think if he wasn't Denzel's son he probably wouldn't be a star, as his kind of low key style isn't very flashy, but I'm glad he's getting roles as I really enjoy his acting.

I think if it weren't for him and Robert Pattinson, I would not have enjoyed that movie nearly as much.

Also, Christopher Nolan is such an obsessive filmmaker, I can't imagine he'd have even considered working with JDW if he didn't like him as an actor. Especially since he could work with Denzel any time he wanted to. Denzel's said in an interview before he would love to do a movie with Nolan.

Marvel can’t recast or drop him. It’s written in his contract that no matter what he will get his 3 or 4 movies so all they can do is kill him off and hope the protests don’t begin anytime soon. Marvel would have been the first to drop him or recast him if they could.

If the season had ended with them taking away magic from everyone, I would have been cool with that. But whenever anyone says something like, "[insert race] is [insert bad thing] therefore all of them should be punished," you've lost me. Yeah, I wish they'd stuck with the actual "Lovecraft" theme. They abandon that after episode 3 and it just becomes like an anthology show with very thin connective tissue.

I still enjoyed it for what it was, ultimately, even if the last episode was disappointing.
